I feel like we all need to recognize the bridal shop owner, who raised the alarm. She showed that homeless man care and compassion and concern when she didn’t see him. We need more humans like that in the world.
He had so many that cared about him. His job,the coffee shop, and more. He was obviously honest too because the lady said she gave him 20$ for beer. He was very loved by all around him.
@janina8559 It's sweet that she gave him money knowing what it was for. Some people get all high and mighty about refusing to give unhoused people money because "it'll go straight to alcohol/drugs," when those things, while not positive, might be the only pleasure/coping mechanism they have at the time. It seems like an excuse to avoid looking bad for not helping the less fortunate.
I just have to say that I don't like when people say we need more people like that in the world. The amount of times I've read comments that say that proves there obviously are plenty of people like this in the world. Why is it so easy to perceive acts of either atrocity or decency as isolated incidents? People are products of the environment and our environment isn't either atrocious or decent at any given time, but both at the same time pretty equally, because both decent and atrocious deeds are being done. A Schrodinger's society if you will. At any given time we can be collectively improving based on organized efforts towards decencies or be collectively deteriorating based on collective efforts towards atrocities, with the difference being awareness. Tldr There is good and bad happening all the time all around at pretty much the same rate, the difference is really in just how wholly and connectedly you can perceive it.
They are having a statue built to honor him of an elderly man sitting reading a book. What a beatiful way to honor him. He’s known as the “Reading man”
In a story full of carelessness and horror, and the worst of humanity, the way the folks cared for their fellow community member and are honoring him is the bright spot.
The "Warren Was Here" Memorial sign by her shop hit me hard. He wasn't just a nameless, homeless nobody who if he died tomorrow no one would even look for him like the killer thought. He was a person, he made connections, had friends, and had people that cared about him. He was here. And sadly he was taken away senselessly so that this sick individual could feel what killing felt like. RIP Warren and I am so happy that there were people who cared about him enough to keep his memory alive.
It sounded like the homeless man was trying to turn his life around. It's so offensive to hear the murderer's depraved details and the female cops hideous laugh while finding body parts. Two very sick people.
Only Bruce Rivers can casually tell everyone about the time his uncle's dog found a severed human arm, chuckle to himself and continue on like it's nothing lmao
Notice that the mother said she found "his head", as opposed to "it" or "a head". This shows a deep level of empathy towards the victim and contrasts sharply with her son's shallow, casual affect.
Agree, but also note to parents - don't let your kids' "innocent fantasies" go on and get this far. Nip it in the bud. Things have a tendency to normalize, desensitize and escalate, especially with brains that aren't fully developed yet.
Monique sounds like such an amazing woman. Giving him a chair to read every day, reporting him missing immediately... Man. I bet most homeless people would be brought to tears by such kindness.
Obviously you never been homeless!!! 🤬 How dare you judge the unfortunate! Is it any wonder? What a heartless, ugly remark! Our country and our society became so cintical and evil! Very sad😢 RIP my good man 🙏🏻
Hum? By ungrateful you mean treated like a pesty animal? Begging for food and some human compassion! What a tool! Remember this....be kind to the people you meet on the way up because your gonna meet the same people on the way down😢 I hope you never have to endure a life of hell and rejection these poor souls face on a daily basis. 🙏🏻
Yeah they seem like good parents, heartbreaking for them. You can be the best parents in the world and still have a kid with serious mental problems like being a psychopath.
That woman reporting the homeless man is a darn saint Thanks to mom and the shop owner solved it in one day. Caring about humans can make all the world of difference. I feel just terrible for the family.
If the body had not been discovered in the house, though, I don’t think the police would have done anything to look for a missing homeless man. It would have been impossible to find him.
I’ve said this on other videos, but mother and other dog owners have befriended a homeless man at the local park. They bring food, new clothes, new socks, etc. they also have each other’s phone numbers. My mother took him and his dog to an emergency vet visit not too long ago. He’s a lovely man who does not want to live in a home and he’s stubborn. But, as I’ve also said on other videos, we need to create and enforce strong laws on the books over antisocial behavior. This very nice homeless man had to leave a couple months ago because violent, drug taking homeless people moved into the park. They were aggressive, had a number of visible weapons, were openly drinking and shooting up, and were verbally and physically fighting everyone. Similarly, about a year ago, this nice man was beaten up so badly by violent homeless people for no reason that he had to go to the ER. I’m originally from Central California and despite being a large city, police know their areas. People were able to call the cops and get these violent people moved on, the problem is that this is no longer enforced across the board. Do gooders don’t seem to understand, when you make everything legal you victimize the most vulnerable portion of society. The homeless man my parents are friends with is a lovely person and I would normally just use his name as my parents do, but I’d like to protect his privacy here, however violent members of any society or group need to be dealt with immediately. I do not advocate for criminalizing the homeless, but I absolutely support strong laws and measures against obviously dangerous, antisocial behavior.
Hearing his mom wail like that is so sad man that breaks my heart. This weirdo just ruined both of their lives too. This is something you never get over. Night terrors PTSD Marital issues All that.
I can imagine people will blame her. Avoid her in the grocery store. Suddenly have plans and reasons as to why they can't hang out with her. The whispers are devastating. The stigma is inescapable
I really hope th parents are still together after all this, it's devastating but I hope it hasn't shattered their Ives completely. They appear too be a lovely couple
Bruce Rivers is literally one of my heroes. He actually inspired me to finally take the LSAT, and I got accepted into law school this past Fall. Going great so far, thanks Bruce!
I have no intention of taking the LSAT , however; I'm pretty sure you got this-due to Bruce Rivers . Hell, he makes me feel like I could take the bar tomorrow and pass. Eat it Kim K!
Based on the comment section, people from his town said he’d had problems for a long time and everyone just looked the other way. I mean, if that's been his experience, why would he think this would be any different? 🤷🏽♀️
The fact that this dude had friends despite them knowing he killed a cat, suspected killing more cats, talked about killing. ''I was shocked he killed someone but I was shocked it was not more'' WTF?? People are so weird. Call me judgmental, but I would avoid that dude like a plague and report him.
Now gotta question… what we do with the people who were close to him, knew he wanted to kill people and were shocked that it wasnt „larger scale“ killing. What we do with those people?
It's absolutely gutting! We should be focusing on mental health education for all... I'd like to see people treated bf something this horrendous happens and it happens all too often

I just hope his parents have seen these interrogations since they thought his behavior wasn’t that alarming. We all want to see the best in our kids but damn this kid is a psychopath and they thought he was harmless. Wtf.
Going after some guy already struggling in life is so low. I’m glad that there were people who showed that man kindness for the years before this senseless murder.
Warren Barnes was a beloved part of our community..if you’d like to see his Reading Man Memorial. It’s between 5th & 6th street on Main in the breezeway..it was made by local artists and is as beautiful as he was in life..🙏
I googled it and it also brought up a black and white photo of him sitting reading a book and then when you see the pics of the memorial it gives you chills. What a beautiful memorial ❤
Amazing that the detective kept composure during the interview, that was beyond disturbing. What a senseless loss of life, I am glad Warren was known and appreciated within his community, and those people were quick to act, voicing concern over his disappearance. Thanks for taking time to provide your insight on this Bruce, and thanks Michael, you two are a great team. :)
Befriending homeless people is such a tricky situation because not everybody is homeless for the same reasons. There was a guy I knew years ago who was homeless but super nice, well spoken, and you could tell he kept up his appearance as much as he could. Because we'd always had nice chats, I'd buy things for him every so often just to help out. Bug bracelets, some cans of food etc. One night he was getting cigarettes and refused to let me pay for anything because he was spending money on something not necessary. He was truly a kind guy who I hope is doing well. On the other hand, there was a guy who'd come in, sit in the chairs in front of Starbucks and shit himself and continue sitting there, then yell profanities and leave when told him to go. Another walked in, tried stealing some stuff, got caught, then grabbed a potted plant on his way out and threw across the front of the store. It's hard to find out who's who, and even dangerous at times, BUT if you find someone who's just in an unfortunate situation, they're usually very kind.
I was a respiratory therapist for many years before I got brain cancer and trust me, those of us who have worked in the ER/Trauma, ICU, CCU, SICU, NICU, and PICU have that laugh too. If people in high stress jobs like that see such horrible stuff don’t laugh to relieve tension it will eat you alive.
@@fracture589 there is no cure for brain cancer so we never get to hear cancer free or even you’re in remission, instead they’ll either say, you’re tumor free or your MRIs are stable. This was an excellent take away; You are so right! If there was a teaching moment that could be taken away from this horrific tragedy, it definitely was this, “he worked for 4 years always showing up on time every single day,and yet he was homeless “.
1:36:55 To clarify: Aspergers or people on the spectrum are per definition prone to missing social cues, but that is not equal to not having empathy. The murderer in this video has Aspergers and _in addition to that_ a total lack of empathy.
A minor point of order: Asperger's (like several other diagnoses) are not recognized as anything except generalized Autism Spectra Disorder under the current DSM (5). What was Asperger's is just ASD now. ^^
Sociopathy and psychopathy also can have issues either cues, and isn’t generally diagnosed until well into adulthood, if ever. It could be a misdiagnosis of ASD or has both…
Yes I am autistic, terrible at being social but I could never fathom doing something like this.. I can barely kill a bug without feeling terrible. Our brains function a little differently but that doesn’t mean we lack empathy. He has some other sort of disorder besides just autism going on here
Exactly. Someone very close to me is aspy and this person is the most empathetic person I know. I recognized this person (Brian) as aspy very soon into the video. I highly doubt it will help with his defense, but it’ll be a rough go in prison for him.
I replied to a comment this exact thing. How 1 person thinking that another person's life didn't matter, he ruined and affected multiple people's lives. Including his own parents. You're so right.....senseless,sad, and tragic.
His parents deserve to feel like failures! I hope they have nightmares every night! If you watched this whole video you will see they ignored the signs at every turn! His teachers tried to tell his parents just how sick he was and they ignored it!
That's the thing, even if I just really felt like I wanted to kill someone like that I don't think I could just because of what it would do to my parents. Though I suppose those two instincts might not co-exist in one person.
I think other than that the worst part was the fact he didn't try to hide all the red flags and warning signs, and his family, his WHOLE school, and his friends all knew something was wrong and weren't even totally shocked. Why no one did anything is just crazy to me.
@@kimmieh8419the ripple effect is what people don’t realize & it hurts generations, not just the one person who committed the crime, & the victim of the crime. Drugs, liquor, that secret girlfriend he never told you about, there is a comfort you should feel every time you open a child’s closet door and see anything other than a disassembled homeless man.
Hahahahaha sometimes it takes hearing these crazy stories to realised at least your child is doing somewhat normal teenage things and they could definitely be 1000 times worse.

I used to be a paramedic and I was on vacation in Atlantic City, NJ. I was at Caesar's Palace and a man at the next table over collapsed. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY even looked like they were THINKING about going to help. Being as how I was on vacation, I gave it a few seconds before getting to work. He was in cardiac arrest. Security brought me an AED and gloves, facemask and I jumped in. I did CPR, delivered 3 shocks and had the man trying to get up before EMS arrived. That ENTIRE TIME, the only person who helped me was a security guard, who opened my gloves for me and helped me place the pads. He was the only one who was willing to help. But then everybody wanted to be my friend so I just left. Never went back either. The bystander effect is real!

Wow that's crazy. I have a similar story of when I was a teenager. I was a trained lifeguard for about 3 years when I was 17, and I was out to eat at Waffle house with my friends at around 2AM. We were all sitting in a booth and two teens walked in and one was sweating profusely and didn't look right. As they were walking past out booth he collapsed in front of us and within a few seconds I jumped over the table and was on top of him checking his pulse and his eyes. He had what seemed like no pulse for about 10 seconds and i yelled to the staff to call 911 and I was going to attempt CPR, but everyone there, and I mean EVERYONE even my friends and the kids friend were just frozen and staring at us. The kids pulse jumped back to life and his eyes rolled back forward and he woke up. I told him to relax and have a seat until 911 arrived, but his "friend" grabbed him and rushed out the door. I assumed he had taken some kind of drugs or something. Yes the bystander effect does exist and that was my first hand experience as well.
I so hope that the mother got some good therapy after this. The respect she showed in getting the police there right away and saying, 'his' and not 'it' shows how much compassion she had. The person who did this was her son, but still she choose to do the right thing.
There is a gross fallacy in 'if he did this, it must be the parents' fault'. If a child grows up under an abusive environment and chooses not to repeat their parents destructive practices, should the abusive parents be praised for that. I agree with you LadyEzri. The mother had to see horrors no woman deserved to see. This 'boy' was 18, he was a man who chose his own path in life. Parents may give us the tools to walk, and try their damnedest to guide us on the right path, or they may do the opposite but at the end of the day, we are the ones who walk the path. That poor woman... I hope she finds a reason to smile and a cause to work for.
This case shows that EVERY ONE MATTERS. Doesn't matter if it's a homeless person or sex worker we all have people who love us and will notice & be upset if we are gone
Sadly no we don’t. Plenty of people go missing and no one notices or if they do it’s not for years. This homeless man just happened to be the exception.

I think its beautiful how this community rEspects and sees this homeless man and cares about him. Granted not every homeless person is stable or approachable but this is an example of an "It takes a Village" approach to do what you can while our government fails them all.
Honestly, we feed & clothe the homeless often & have never had one issue or problem doing so. I take the little girl, 16, all around the county we live in & Baltimore County & never have any thing but respect & kindness out of every one. They have also stood up for us when other “gang affiliate’s” tried to stop people from helping one community last spring & the homeless ran them all out of the area. Hey Bruce, I do behavior therapy for people with autism. Just to clear some stuff up and add, not just for Bruce but for everyone: -Asperger’s is not a real diagnosis anymore. Someone with autism has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). -Though low or different-than-typical empathy is seen in those with ASD, desires to harm others do not directly stem from autism. Especially not pre-meditated murder. Hurting others is almost always done for attention (like pulling someone’s hair and getting talked to for it) or escape (like pushing someone away). -His autism diagnosis is still possible, but he has very intense neuroticism and remarkable conscientiousness. His autism diagnosis gives him no reason to be how he is. Many autistic people are interested in unique subjects, some dark subjects too. But, planning and acting out a murder isn’t an autism thing. I’m not accusing anyone of any misinformation, to be clear. I’m adding this all to help understand a bit better. Edit: added a clarification for a couple things that I didn’t explain well
In my books it's just autism + psychopathy. I notice his autism in how he talks (speech patterns etc), his facial expressions or lack there of. His cold blooded killing is psychopathy, completely unrelated to autism.
I have a young child on the spectrum with ADHD and we have to work VERY hard to instill empathy in them. My child is young, and will often do things without regard for others like push to get a toy they want, but it’s goal-based; I want something and now I have it, and I don’t really care you’re in the floor crying. Sometimes anger at not getting what they want turns to retaliation. BUT there’s not harm for harm’s sake. I see a lot of ASD mannerisms in the directness of the confession and the almost book report-like details, but there’s something else layered on top. This is not just ASD and ADHD.
Well that's unusual but it depends on what he was doing was he on drugs? He could have been on drugs or just didn't know how to deal with money. Also maybe somebody wasn't paying him a lot or he just was working an hour you know what I mean.

this made me think of all the death camps in the 20th century from multiple nations. how many people running them were as sick as this guy. the world can be a scary place
I watched the original video first, and I had to stop multiple times because I felt that I needed to vomit because of how how depraved and disgusting that kid was.
What the hell could she have done?? Some people are just born evil, he's clearly one of those. How can you predict that? I'd say "okay, I'm definitely never going to breed again, my genes are cursed.". That's all you can do. Who expects their kid to be a terrifying monster?
I watched this when it came out, what disturbs me the most is that he hid body parts in a house where he knows his mom runs a daycare out of. Can you imagine if one of those kids went exploring and found them first? I cant imagine how much pain his mom is in, how can you even suspect dark humour would turn into this?
His complete lack of self awareness around how incredibly disturbing his actions were is very scary. Laughing, smiling, making jokes.. his pride and clear enjoyment of telling the story. Fascinating but so freaking creepy, makes my skin crawl..
That poor mom. I kinda like her style. “Do I have to take a picture and text it?” “I thought he was channeling it into being a CSI. Not so much.” The blackest humor gets you through the blackest times.
I didn’t see that as humor. That was just coming to terms with reality all at once. It’s just so frank, and when you realize it, there’s not much to fight against, no need for more words
I wish the dispatchers would explain to the frantic caller that they need to collect some info and that law enforcement has already been dispatched because a lot of this anxiety is because the caller thinks the dispatch person is just twiddling their thumbs while they take their sweet time asking d*mb questions. I don’t get why they don’t ever say that. 🤷🏻♀️
in the video the officer, pokes open the bag, processes for like half a second then rapidly closes the bag, keeping his composure. knowing that would be one of those things burned in you mind forever. I hope responding officers are taking care of themselves
The parents ignored everyone raising the red flags... There was a daycare in that house. An he was killing cats before he killed the poor homeless man...!
Torturing animals is a big deal and parents need to know that. Most serial killers torture animals. I get not thinking your baby boy is a monster but they should have gotten help
Their are people in this world who belong on the shortest of leashes, the fact that I can tell that this guy is one of them despite having never met him before means the parents have no excuse in their negligence having spent his entire life raising him.
I have mixed feelings about the parents. On the one side they ignored many warning signs about their son's behavour. Not nearly as extreme as in the Crumbley case, but still. On the other side by all appearances they were genuinly shocked and once the truth hit them in the face they made sure the children in her daycare were safe and they even put themselves in danger to ensure the police would arrest their son. They seem to have their heart in the right place, but they were extremely naive about their son.
@@donnakawana in their interviews they say they knew the son’s diagnosis were wrong and told the doctors. The mom even told one doctor that she though he had a personality disorder and not ASD how he was diagnosed, told him everything he was doing and they always said no. She tried to get him the right treatment and help, the medical professionals didn’t believe her.
Compelling proof that psychopaths are born, not made. I watched the entire EWU version and the parents seem like loving, caring, understanding, and reasonable people. They were clearly disturbed by this. As a parent, this would be one of my biggest nightmares.
Agreed - I feel for parents who did their best and still ended up with a child committing evil deeds and everyone everywhere saying "I blame the parents".
I'm autistic and have a nice list of mental health issues... seeing a human or animal in distress makes my soul hurt. ETA I also had an extremely abusive childhood, that's part of why I am so fascinated with true crime... It's not the environment, it's the way they're born.
Nice people, but naive and selfish as fk. They knew all this stuff but because it was their child they didn't want to do anything about it. If it were someone else's kid they'd have absolutely been concerned and wanting the parents to do something about it. Like all these signs and nobody did anything. It just amazes me how some people will get looked at just off looks they'll assume he's dangerous. This dude can literally call himself the name of serial killers, will always watch serial killer movies and books have a morbid sense of humor and even admit to wanting to kill people and the people around them do nothing. And here you are calling his parents nice, no they're a cancer to society and someone is dead due to their selfishness
I have a younger brother with Asperger's and his behavior is similar. My brother is a s** offender who sod***zed a 13 year old boy when he was around 20 years old. He spoke to the detectives just like this. He was guilty AF and he was sentenced to 10yrs in prison. Both my parents claimed he didn't know right from wrong because of the Asperger's BUT the judge wasn't buying it. He told my parents that if they would continue arguing his mental state, he would place my brother in the state mental hospital for 10 years instead of prison. So my brother went to prison, as he should've, but continued thinking that prison was a party. He was in protective custody. He was allowed to have a CD player. He got huge care packages from my mother plus lots of money in his commissary. Not once did he feel any regret for what he did. He even sent letters to us, requesting that we send him more CDs, money, clothes, etc. Some, not all, people with this disorder exhibit certain behaviors which are exacerbated by parental enabling and other societal influences. Very disturbing.
Asperger's, when mixed with a cluster B personality disorder, is quite a sight but I don't think I've ever heard anyone acknowledge it. They are too autistic to blend in and get away with things, but too narcissistic to grow and develop the ability to do so. It's self-sabotage in a, frankly, often very funny way, from a distance. You see it with all the stereotypical "neck beards", or at least the toxic ones.
Oh, gosh. The idea of this guy getting preferential treatment to that degree…. My only solace so far has been the notion that he’ll realize prison isn’t as tolerable as he seems to think.
A woman who was a long-time customer of mine years ago had a younger half-brother who was visiting her. I believe he was in his early 20's maybe, and he also had Aspergers. She also had a young son who was six or seven years old. They knew each other quite well, and there was not any indication of previous violent or problematic behavior. Anyways, while he was visiting her son was sick and they called the woman to pick him up from school. She went and got him on her lunch break and brought him home. She left him at home with her brother until she finished her shift at work. When she got home her brother told her that the boy was missing and had run off while he was in the shower. They immediately put out a missing person's report and people all over the area were walking the streets looking for him from about 5pm until 5am the next morning. I'm talking hundreds of people combing the area in unison, I've never seen anything like it. The next morning they found him tied up in a trash bag, and thrown in a dumpster at an apartment complex up the street. Her brother had tied the boy up and drowned him in the bathtub. When they asked him why he did it, he just said he wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone. It was one of the saddest things I've ever seen in my life. Just because someone is developmentally disabled doesn't mean they are harmless or that they cannot be dangerous....
Dude just getting the call from the school that your kid wouldn't put their phone away in class or finding a little thc in their bedroom is enough to honestly break your heart. Your stomach drops as a parent. I couldn't imagine the absolute heartbreak. Being a parent to a teen is very hard. I truly feel for these parents. *Edited to add a local sculpter made a statue in memoriam for Mr Warren who was locally known as "the reading man".

It's terrible to think there's people walking around out there with this same mentality and sick craving. It could happen to anyone at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
About 1/200 people have antisocial personality disorder AND express it impulsively . These are the dangerous ones. The others are pretty harmless (at least in comparison).

I almost agree with you. More so I think he desperately wanted his trophies so he could look at his work and relive the moment over and over again. He logically knew it was sloppy to keep evidence but he couldn’t help it, like a drunk can’t help but open another bottle of vodka. Gotta get that fix.
I don't think he wanted to get caught. I think he was indifferent to getting caught. Even if I get caught, I'll do 15 years, out in my mid-30s, still have a whole life ahead of me.
The thing is... everyone is thinking this was his only time. This could have been his second or something and he just got sloppy because he wasn't caught before. Not sure I belive this was his first and only time.
Once I told a classmate I ran over a cat. I was joking because his cat was missing. As a teen it’s hard to believe that someone you know would do that to a cat.
uh bud....science has already proven dozens of predator species that like to fuck with their prey, shit some animals intentionally leave animals alive while they eat them
The first lady gave him $20 for beer. That's pretty generous considering that most people would say, "As long as he's using it for food and not beer." The poor, poor man and the poor, poor family. Just tragic all around. I have to say that this case brings out the worst in me because I wish the worst for the killer.
oh come on, you people are so shelterd. I live downtown in abig city and pandhandlers get $5, $10, $20, $50 and even $100s and nobody tells them not to spend it on drugs lol...we want them to enjoy it for us because we quit drugs.

Oh my god. The female officer laughing when she found the arm under the bridge sent chills down my spine. I could hear in the inflection of the laugh that it was out of trauma like Bruce explained.. I feel so sorry for everyone involved. The homeless man, his employers, the kind lady that reported him missing, and even the parents of this psycho. They seem like genuine ass good people. That mother was absolutely horrified and heartbroken. Ugh I cannot imagine doing that to my mom. She would react exactly the same I think. I’m not religious but hopes and prayers for everyone affected ❤
She probably laughed because the killer put the homeless man back under the bridge after chopping him up. If you don't see the comedy in that idk what to say. He put him back homeless, they live under bridges like every bridge in Los Angeles
@ann316 absolutely does not mean that. I feel 100% opposite and have suffered several truly traumatic events in my life. The laughing scared me because the fact is they knew what they were looking for. This was not shock. This was a poorly trained officer. As a matter of fact, it means the opposite. That she has NOT experienced systematic trauma. Someone who has would not laugh in this situation.
I was a “troubled” teen in high school in the 90s (also from Minneapolis Bruce!). All black, crazy hair, grunge/goth aesthetic etc. loved morbid humor, violent video games, horror films and all that. Read serial killer books since I was way too young. But I can say without a shred of doubt I have never once thought of “shooting up” my school nor did I ever consider killing anyone then or as an adult. I heard a comment like this recently in a different context as well which made me realize it didn’t apply to me. On another video someone said “everyone had fantasized about killing someone they hate” or something to that effect. I have never once fantasized or wanted to kill anyone in my life. I’ve wanted to hit someone after the fact or something like that but no not everyone thinks or fantasizes about killing people. It’s ridiculous the sweeping statements people make as if they’re settled facts. I studied history and history of law in college and these statements get in the way of our understanding of people of the past as well. I really love when people say “obviously it couldn’t have happened that way” or “obviously they wouldn’t think this or would think this”. Even if it is common, you cannot take everything for granted in pursuit of the truth. Dismissals like these comments undermine the severity of this kind of thing to some degree. I feel horrible for the man lost in this story, as well as this killers family. He cost this man his life and cost his parents a life that can never be repaid or saved.
Mom was good about reporting it but....she was in denial about how bad the kid's mental health/personality was. Thought how bad her boy was being ganged up on by the teachers rather than what he did for them to react so strongly. It really bugs me that the female detective kept saying that schizophrenia is multiple personality. The kid was right, multiple personalities is now known as disassociative identity disorder.
You can’t expect every interrogator to be on top of the ever changing landscape of the DSM. Hell, there are still psychiatrists who don’t believe in DID at all, and misdiagnoses happen constantly
You gotta remember that in court none of that shit is blurred out. As a criminal defense lawyer who's been doing it as long as he has. I'm sure Bruce has dealt with a number of fairly grisly murder cases which means he's seen all kinds of horrible stuff. Probably in big old blown up pictures made to be clearly seen by a jury from across the room. He's also had to hear painstaking detailed descriptions of multiple horrible acts, often with family or loved ones of the victims in the room. You have to develop a really messed up sense of humor/thick skin to be able to sleep at night after seeing stuff like that.
I knew someone like that guy. I worked at a restaurant and there were a lot of homeless and honestly they were a massive pain. Aggressive, violent, and harassed customers. But there was one guy who was super nice and we always let him stay downstairs and sometimes he would order food and we always made sure to give him good service and a little extra if we could.
We need to create and enforce string laws on the books for antisocial behavior. My parents are friends with a similar homeless person at the park they take their dogs. He’s a lovely gentle man and all the dog walkers look after him. However, over the last 2 years, there has been an influx of violent, drug taking homeless people who are a serious threat. Not only to people using the park but also for nonviolent homeless people. My parents’ friend was beaten so badly by one man that he was in the hospital for two days, my mother and several other dog. People were frantic trying to find out what happened. As a society, we need to acknowledge that some behavior cannot exist in a safe, civil society and can’t be excused away by oh they’re homeless. Not when the victimize and prey on other homeless people, that excuse just doesn’t wash.
Not when no bond bail exists. That man who has been punching random women in New York broke a woman’s jaw. He was already out on a no bail bond for multiple similar offenses, after attacking her on camera he was again let out with no bond, free to continue. You actually consider that effective? That is why I said laws needed to be on the books and enforced. Laws are worthless if there are consequences if broken.
The man was doing things right, working, connecting to people, following the advice everyone on the street hears, and it ain't easy. It isn't. You do it by caring and it helps others care back and its hard, hard, hard. This story is so sad.
Facts!! It's tragic to think about, but many many people "do all the right things" and still end up with the short end of the stick. I think it's important for people to acknowledge that and have more compassion for the homeless and those in poverty 🙏🏽
He said “I wore 3 pairs of gloves, well, 2 pairs, 3 on one hand -“ but leaves the whole murder weapon in the glove box? Bro committed 0st degree murder
Based on the interview where he discusses his efforts to hide evidence and get away with the murder, the fact that the defence had a psychologist at trial testify that Brian had a psychotic episode when he saw the homeless man and didn't know what he was doing is a DISGRACE.
Everyone is entitled to a defense no matter how scummy they are. This guy had no defense though so i think the lawyer just threw the insane defense out there. If they don't try they can be disbarred I think.
The 911 responder saying "It's a *what?"* really shows the fine line after which professionality is not possible. I mean, fuck, do they give you a script to recite to a mother who is calling you about Human Motherfucking Remains in her HOUSE in her SONS ROOM. like DAMN
It is the same script that applies to all calls. Place, situation, name, potential dangers etc. As for the professionalism of the caller, a murder call like that is the absolute exception and even veteran responders would struggle to keep their compusture. All things considered this one still did a decent job.
I can’t even imagine how his mother must feel after finding that. I pray they all get the help they need to continue in life after such a devastating blow.
I live close to Grand Junction, it's a very small place. When you're talking about the cop laughing when they find the arms, you're right, it's more of a shock reaction more than anything else. These cops probably never thought in a million years, that they would ever see something like this in a small like like Grand Junction.
I dunno, we just had a rash of dead bodies being found. Kinda recently someone bought a freezer full of meat and found a human head and hands at the bottom.
That mother was terrified. Every hope and dream you have for your child gone in an instant. Thank goodness the victim had people watching out for him. Why didn't they heed the warning signs...
That mother and father should also have been held responsible and jailed. They enabled him all his life and failed to keep others safe from his evilness.
@davidgray1515 I have been saying this for years, if a child is caught bullying, the parents should get a choice, deal with your brat, or we take money our of your bank account , I guarantee, the bully will stop.
@@davidgray1515he had never broken the law he had behavior problems in school he had counseling. Now where are the parents supposed to take him. No - we need to bring back institutions where a parent can get the months long diagnosis needed instead of the 72 hour pickup. Families have no recourse. You want to stop this from happening? Give families a place to take their kids to. Bring back institutions.
❤❤❤I just found your channel and I'm obsessed! As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst working with young adults with Autism, this is enlightening! I especially appreciate your approach when addressing the autism community; you explain how often these characteristics of a person on the Autism Spectrum can contribute to a horrible situation like this, it is not typical. I have found in working with this demographic that a lot of my clients do not have a filter and they have a difficult time lying or withholding the truth. Once they learn how they can benefit from lying, it's a whole new ball game. People need to be educated on this demographic.
Poor Warren did not deserve this. He was a human being. Brian clearly thought he was less than and people wouldn’t miss him. But they did. And right away. Because he was valued for the person he was. Thankfully they called the police before more people got hurt.
I feel so bad for the other son. Imagine having to tell people your brother is a psycho murderer. And now the other son is gonna be wondering if he will end up like his brother...
I don't think he's wondering about that, but it sounds like he's younger, still in highschool, and the inevitable gossip is going to be salt in the wound. He may have looked up to Brian all his life, and it is really shattering to have a sibling relationship relationship destroyed by terrible acts like that. Also many kids experience a sense of responsibility when they see their parents go through trauma. I hope there is healing for the family
@janina8559
It's sweet that she gave him money knowing what it was for.
Some people get all high and mighty about refusing to give unhoused people money because "it'll go straight to alcohol/drugs," when those things, while not positive, might be the only pleasure/coping mechanism they have at the time.
It seems like an excuse to avoid looking bad for not helping the less fortunate.
what a great lady! Yes, we do need more people like her around.

The shop owners that immediately reported Warren missing are saints. They truly cared for their friend and were worried.
God... his parents seem like the most wholesome, trusting, lovely people. I feel so sorry for them
The "Warren Was Here" Memorial sign by her shop hit me hard.

Self snitching was never so good. They didn’t have to waste time on this psychopath.

Notice that the mother said she found "his head", as opposed to "it" or "a head". This shows a deep level of empathy towards the victim and contrasts sharply with her son's shallow, casual affect.
One time she referred to "that poor man's" head too (or arm?). You're right, the contrast in empathy is staggering.
Agree, but also note to parents - don't let your kids' "innocent fantasies" go on and get this far. Nip it in the bud. Things have a tendency to normalize, desensitize and escalate, especially with brains that aren't fully developed yet.

If the body had not been discovered in the house, though, I don’t think the police would have done anything to look for a missing homeless man. It would have been impossible to find him.
I was getting ready to type the same sentiment. What a wonderful community to look after the deceased in life.
I agree with you here l fell şad for them
I’ve said this on other videos, but mother and other dog owners have befriended a homeless man at the local park.

Exactly. Someone very close to me is aspy and this person is the most empathetic person I know. I recognized this person (Brian) as aspy very soon into the video. I highly doubt it will help with his defense, but it’ll be a rough go in prison for him.
The dad talking about how their lives are all ruined was so sad. The loss of life was so senseless and the ripple effect is tragic too.

Hey Bruce, I do behavior therapy for people with autism. Just to clear some stuff up and add, not just for Bruce but for everyone:
-Asperger’s is not a real diagnosis anymore.
Edit: added a clarification for a couple things that I didn’t explain well
Yea I'm sick of people using the Autism label on weird people. Being weird is not autism.
Thank you. It's getting tiring.
People have to understand comorbidity. Like Elon Musk for example. He has ASD, but I think most people are certain he also has NPD and/or ASPD.
The old man had been working every day for four years but couldn't afford a home? That's just as sad.
Well that's unusual but it depends on what he was doing was he on drugs? He could have been on drugs or just didn't know how to deal with money. Also maybe somebody wasn't paying him a lot or he just was working an hour you know what I mean.

You can’t expect every interrogator to be on top of the ever changing landscape of the DSM. Hell, there are still psychiatrists who don’t believe in DID at all, and misdiagnoses happen constantly
30:16 - "I sorta hate how they blur these things out" what Bruce? 😂

This is so sad for Warren and the people that loved him. He was respected and appreciated by some very kind people in this community.
This is terrifying. How dare that woman open a daycare in her home with a dangerous son like that! The students at school felt unsafe around him! 😳😳
Let’s all take a piece of humble pie. Not all homeless are monsters or ‘animals’. They are humans. Rest in peace.❤
who thinks they are monsters and animals????? Omg!
@@Catmom-gl5nt Beating people is indeed illegal
Not when no bond bail exists. That man who has been punching random women in New York broke a woman’s jaw. He was already out on a no bail bond for multiple similar offenses, after attacking her on camera he was again let out with no bond, free to continue. You actually consider that effective? That is why I said laws needed to be on the books and enforced. Laws are worthless if there are consequences if broken.
@@Catmom-gl5nt Bond does not mean they don't go to court and then get imprisoned if guilty
I think it's important for people to acknowledge that and have more compassion for the homeless and those in poverty 🙏🏽
the HORROR and pain in his mamas voice omg I feel so bad for her:
He said “I wore 3 pairs of gloves, well, 2 pairs, 3 on one hand -“ but leaves the whole murder weapon in the glove box? Bro committed 0st degree murder
"0st degree murder" Lol, Your comment deserves extra credit!😄
0st degree Murder lmfao
Major props to his parents. They could have covered this up, but they didn’t. They did the right thing, even though they would lose their son
Would you want to live with someone who kills and dismembers people?
Mum was scared sh!tless…
bless that woman who reported him missing.
he thought killing a homeless person would go unnoticed
tg the victim had a routine and people who cared
Bless that woman who cared for the victim. The world needs more people like her. So sad 😢😢
Thanks!
I can’t believe Bruce didn’t elaborate on the dog with the arm 😂😂😂❤️
I know! I want to hear the rest of that story! 😱
Right! Me too! 😂😂
Any more information may have implicated Grandma Rivers....and you don't want to snitch on Grandma Rivers...😅😅
Yes. That was a wait, what? moment for me.
No one's even talking about how he said he hates when they blur the body cam videos 🤣🤣 BRO!? Like what?
I live close to Grand Junction, it's a very small place. When you're talking about the cop laughing when they find the arms, you're right, it's more of a shock reaction more than anything else. These cops probably never thought in a million years, that they would ever see something like this in a small like like Grand Junction.
I dunno, we just had a rash of dead bodies being found. Kinda recently someone bought a freezer full of meat and found a human head and hands at the bottom.
When I see things like this, it reminds of how tough a cops job can be.

Oh man, my dad used to say "you shouldn't look at that, when it's in your head it's always in your head." He's right. This is a sickening story.
