Thanks for watching! And it’s official, this is the longest video yet that I’ve posted to the channel! My goal with videos like this is to give people who are interested in this kind of rig as much information as possible. Feel free to use the chapter markers or time stamps to skip around to the parts that are most interesting to you. Huge thanks to Bill and Maureen for sharing their rig with us! If you want to see their previous truck camper rig, here you go: ua-cam.com/video/lM-GjbRzzK0/v-deo.html.
Oh, and if you have questions about the gear that Bill shows us, check the video description 👍
(And BTW, Bill and I aren't associated with EarthCruiser. He's just a fan.)

Hey, give this guy some love. He's living in it year-round, it's his house. Who would fault someone for spending $350k on a house? He can be anywhere, take his house with him, and still have mobility that you wouldn't have in a large RV.

@@anybodyoutthere3208 Your point is valid. We had a Four Wheel Camper/Tacoma for 9 years. Tristan put that up on his channel in 2020. As far as the prayer flags, they are more decorative pennants, but I think my wife does pray to them everytime we end up stuck in some wash in the desert 🤣 - Bill

Tristan - we enjoy all of your videos, including Tenkara Addict! Really appreciate that you let Bill do the full tour without interruption. That is the way to do it! While some may not have an interest in the exact vehicle or price-point, there are always things you can learn and ideas to pick up. Thank you for showing us this. About the opposite end of the spectrum from sleeping in the back of an SUV!
That’s a lot of luxury packed into a dirt capable truck. And with the low roofline of the pop up, it will go more places than the giant Earth Roamer trucks which look like German military trucks.

NICE! I was having trouble wrapping my mind around the price tag but became more convinced of the value as Bill explained the materials and the build. Seems to be a nearly perfect choice for him and his wife. Bottom line is it's a third the cost of a condo at Sun Valley and they can pick a different climate and view at will. I love watching folks living their dream.

No amount of time Tristan and I could have spent together would have allowed a complete understanding of the engineering, quality, fit, and finish that when into this build by EarthCruiser. I had lots of B Roll that showed the construction details that time didn’t allow to be put in. By following all the principles of the marine industry for construction, it can withstand the riggers of very demanding off road travel without falling to pieces. Principles the marine industry must strive for to "Stay Afloat". And yes like you point out we pick where and when we want to be someplace. Thanks for supporting Tristan and SUV RVing - Bill

Thanks for your comments, it is much appreciated. The hidden detail is driving the quality, fit, finish and off road durability of the build. But not everything is always ideal given the limitations of what can be squeezed in a small space. The toilet area is cramped and the trying to get a great seal with some minimal rain seeps with the door curvature are on the con sides. The door seals fine given the gasket arrangement but could be better in my mind. But the seeps if any just end up in the shower sump anyway so nothing to clean up. The long term use of the gasoline fired heater will also be interesting. Just how long it will go before it needs to be pulled and thoroughly cleaned. Thanks for supporting Tristan and SUV RVing. Cheers - Bill

Bill did an excellent job explaining the features of his rig. I think this video may be better received on an overlanding channel vs. Tristan’s who sleeps on his car! I think it’s a great rig, however I personally don’t care for the door that opens up to the toilet and shower. That could lead to an embarrassing moment. And how does another person go in and out while another is using the bathroom facilities? SUV RVing is my favorite UA-cam channel! Bill's rig is the way to go to get in the real out of the way places! Plenty of battery and water storage. But is the 36 gallon gas tank a limiting factor? I see you do store more gas. Happy trails!

Thanks for your comments and interest. We store our cloths in 86L soft sided duffels in the back half of the cab under the bungee maze. We have a "dirty" duffel and a "clean" duffel and when that one goes flat its time to head to the laundromat. In the US there is only 3 regions that I always carry full 15 gallons of extra fuel, The Mojave Desert/Preserve of eastern CA, the southern Great Basin of NV, and the Sonora desert in AZ. In discussions with others, they carry fuel extra fuel up through Western Canada up to and including Alaska. While fuel stops are generally available, a remote planned stop may be out of fuel and you have to wait a few days for delivery. I do always carry 5 gallons in that tote when out on trail, as over the years I have run across ATV’er’s and other adventurers who haven't quite planned their trip so well. We frequently go in there to grab something out of the frig or jump on the CZone panel when I am too lazy to fire up the iPad with it down. For one person, I would just put an air mattress in the aisle, you will have ample head space . Give me a few days and I will do a crude iPhone video of the inside with the dimensions shown and me laying on the bed. I see a lot of expensive gizmos that will be a long wait for parts and service. What is the plan when you need to remove the cab for engine work? Seriously doubt Ford will cover the labor to R&R that camper along with all the connections.
What is total loaded weight of this unit- all food, fuel, supplies.

    • @lostinmt8370
      @lostinmt8370 7 місяців тому

The gizmos are expensive and my fingers are crossed that the reliability is there. The good thing is EarthCruiser is not an RV corporate conglomerate. They produce all their units to order for a particular customer. They can produce in the neighborhood of +/- twenty of these units a year. They have enough throughput and inventory to pull a failed component from stores and get it right out to you. If it is a warranty item they will reimburse you for installation costs. I noted that incase of a CZone PLC failure I can jump the fuses up one slot to run all the electrical items. If the CZone interface screen goes dead, I would just use the iPad. If one of the lift motors fail, then out comes the manual crank... Fortunately I am able to tackle most issues out side of "Ford" issues. Now the meat in your comment, the risk of having to pull the cab for engine work.. The expense of that would definitely be on MY dime regardless of Ford's warranty. In that case I would have to get it to Bend, OR by hook or crook via a hauling expense again on me. EarthCruiser would remove the "House" via the 6 anchor points and connections at my expense and then we would take it over to Kendall Ford of Bend, EarthCruiser's unfinished chassis supplier. So yes that scenario would be very painful, but not as painful as hauling it to Elkhart, Indiana😵‍💫 and having it there for months. Last question, all in weight. Fully loaded, 2 people, weighed at Montana DOT Scale was 12,860 lbs. against a "Manufacture's" door sticker certification of 13,000 lbs. Now I caution you don't jump on Fords website and look up the rating for a F350 pickup and claim this vehicle is "Over Weight". This was an unfinished chassis modified and completed by a "Manufacture" who has had it certified to Federal Motor Vehicle Standard for 13,000 lbs. and has issued the cerficate of weight rating. Fair enough comment, while he put up fair warning in the intro and I am no Tristan when it comes to delivery everyone of his viewers wakes up Saturday morning in anticipation to see what mountain precipice he will be on. And this content can be a real downer for some. Taking a few fill-in videos from interviews over the year really helps him take a break or vacation of sorts from having to put together his normal top notch adventure videos. I know Cassie and Bowser appreciates the extra time it frees him up for family activities. Thanks for supporting Tristan and SUV RVing and stay-tune for next week's episode, he will be back on track with his normal exciting content - Bill.

This is why the younger generations get discouraged these days - a boomer can buy a $350,000 RV as a "home-away-from-home." I'm not sure why you showed this hour-long video about it.

If these "Younger Generations" would have even half of the work ethic and goals I set for myself 40 years ago they could enjoy their retirement as we do! As far as the length, UA-cam is pushing the algorithm on longer video segments so they can throw in more advertising, I think you will start seeing more and more longer videos. I think Tristan did a good job with this one with the time stamp log and the chapter thumbnails for those who want to skip around to sections they are interested in. @@lostinmt8370 That is not a fair comment to cast an entire generation as having no work ethic and/or goals. You know, or at least should, that times have changed. For example, the cost of tuition and housing is significantly more expensive relative to inflation than in decades past. For most people, the days of living on one income and having a parent at home are long gone. The days of working part-time and paying for college are long gone. Young people today will find it challenging to ever own a home. It may be your amazing work ethic that is twice anyone that is young, but you may also be wise to acknowledge changes in society that you benefited from. And I say this as a 51 year old . . . .

@twowheeladventures63 I love you Mom and Dad and couldn't be happier, and secondly freaking prouder of you both💖 You both are living the life 🏜🏞that amazing parents and individuals like you deserve! Dad worked his *ss off in freaking underground mines in Arizona in the 70s every summer to put himself through college to get his Bachelors in Mining Engineer. Then he went on work for ONE company for 36 years! Yes I said 36! He climbed that corporate ladder to the top! My mother who met my father working for that very company, she was the new accountant from California in the office in Montana. That's were they both met. My mothers love is like no other. My whole life she has had 100% devotion to me, and our family! She is priceless to me as an individual and our family as a whole! Mom you deserve the world and back! I'm proud because my parents are patrons on Tristans UA-cam channel and were ASKED by Tristan to do this 2nd video for his channel. My Dads first tour walk through of their first camper became one of top 5 videos on Tristans channel! Was a very people well liked video. This time around the comments on this video are so disheartening and uncalled for. It breaks my heart that this time the comments are not nice. My parents now have to read these comments now and it breaks my heart. Some so ignorently nasty at times it hurts my heart that my father is reading things that or so undeserving. You both are amazing human beings and I love you more than words could ever say!

While toilets seem to be a necessary item, I am sure glad I didn't pop the lid! But I will tell you, talk to any RV'er with a black tank that is waiting in line to dump their sewage and you might just change your mind, well i mean so you could finish your breakfast.. Interesting, although not enough to watch the whole vid. My main thought is that a person would really need to be nimble and flexible to truly enjoy this thing and easily move around in it. Crawling through the passthru would take me an hour to get down, through and up the other side and that toilet arrangement looks like you'd need to be a contortionist. Thanks, but I'll stick to my suv. I bet this unit is just not a realistic option (either price wise or functionality wise) for about 98% of the folks who warch this channel .

Thanks for your feedback, Tristan and I discussed the length of video. One issue is UA-cam is pushing the algorithm on longer video segments so they can throw in more advertising, I think you will start seeing more and more longer videos. In 2020 Tristan put up our Four Wheel Camper/Tacoma and kept it to 30 minutes or so. At my age I am greatful that I am nimble enough to use the pass thru if needed, but our dog thinks its great! 😂 The toilet arrangement is cramped no question, but hey, its there and convenient when needed. @lostinmt8370 I did notice the dog bed and I'm sure my little guys would have enjoyed it too! My late husband and I traveled over 200,000 miles over 20 years in a 34' RV. After he passed I thought I might downsize but my travel is different now so I manage quite well in a Chevy Traverse with similar, though not as elegant, arrangements to what Tristan uses. But I do hope you will use and enjoy the heck out of your camper. You just never know how much time you have left!

Hi Tristan! You must’ve filmed this just one or two weeks before I met you in Quartzsite at RTR.
I saw one of these Earth Cruisers when I was hosting my most recent Iceland tour. Super nice Australian guy who was planning on touring Iceland for a month or so and then moving onto North America. He showed me around the interior briefly. Wow! Just absolutely wow! I can’t imagine driving one of those behemoths and I certainly don’t have that kind of money but I’m genuinely impressed with the quality of the build and the advanced technology.

Everyone there is so full of energy and friendly. I am glad you got a first hand look at an EarthCruiser, they got their start in Australia and those folks are no strangers to being challanged by the outdoors. The FX or EXP is a true beast even intimidating us, so we opted for the F350 build. Thanks for supporting Tristan and SUV RVing - Bill
