What’s the Difference between Human Design and Astrology?

Thank you Richard. You make it very clear that Human Design is a useful tool. I have studied Astrology for over 38 years. I do not use it to predict, rather to know myself and others. Both Astrology and Human Design are useful to me. I consult both on a daily basis. And I use both to help others. Human Design and Astrology complement each other. They do not setup a conflict as comparing two religion might. They are both about what was above the temple of Apollo, “Know Thyself”. And, to me they both bring into our consciousness, “As Without, So Within. Or As Above, So Below. I am new to Human Design, and I appreciate the knowledge you share. Human Design has verified something I have known about myself for many years, and I appreciate that validation. However, Astrology saved my life many years ago and continues to support my journey in this body, in this incarnation. ❤

That is how I view them like
The two pages on each side of an open book I believe they both need to be used cuz I notice in the Human deign community it’s totally dismissed in most cases or a better way to say it is it’s extremely underutilized when it’s part of human design which is very weird I don’t understand why it’s I finger so much by so many but it’s right there to be used ….we can’t ignore the elements I see HD is good for understanding your energy and a couple other things but astrology covers all the woo woo stuff the real Spiritual sides your spiritual gifts and the deeper psychology of the person like trauma,events etc I’m still very new too both I’ve only been studying them since 2020 well I discovered HD in 2021 but I’ve been very aware of the value of both since 2021 and they can’t be ignored what so ever

I use both astrology and HD to help my clients. You are far more than your sun sign, and the mandala of your birth chart can be expressed in a myriad of ways. There is also a high road and a low road of expression. So, it is a lifelong design to work with. HD can be so visual to get the centers, and to get the profile and authority is so awesome. Even with HD, the planets are moving around and activating certain channels and gates. So, the cosmos are still at work. There are so many systems that can illuminate this life and how to navigate it. I love having many tools to help. Both have been so profound in my life. While waiting for the invitation can be quite powerful in how it works out, it's also disempowering to wait to be invited.

All true ShakeMyWay. But please watch my UA-cam videos on Projectors as I re-phrase what an invitation can be. The thing with HD is you can access the decision-making no matter what the Cosmos is up to, no matter what Gates or Channels appear in the transit flows. Knowing one's Design is also about knowing what one is not and which 'white areas' are compelling to us and to be aware of. :)

Ra had Pluto and Venus out of bounds so they are so interrelated and complimentary. I have Pluto conjunct my rising and HD doesn't see that so we need both :)

Thanks Richard! It works, yes. But it’s definitely not everyone who is willing to go through the process, because it is challenging shattering the not-self. I see a lot of people super interested in HD in the way they like to hear about their astrology and they don’t get that it’s about actually experimenting with S&A and not just knowing some interesting things. I can also get pretty lost in all the mind candy of HD. Didn’t Ra say that the only students of his he’d allow to get caught up mentally were projectors? ehehe. I have been experimenting with waiting and following my splenic authority for over 2 years and it’s changed a lot of things. There’s a lot more relaxation in my life, and a lot more of living day by day, more in the moment. But I think I’ve also just become more and more aware of how deep the layers of my not-self are. It’s pretty mucky! 🤯 😅

Great to hear you are truly in your experiment actively. Yes, you are absolutely right, HD IS great MindCandy. And living the experiment is not for the meek. Human Design requires we each walk our own path more consciously in tune with ourselves. Thinking about walking it does nothing for the life. It simply extends the pain path :)

@@humandesigninfo I recently heard a recording where a Reflector HD analyst said that the disappointment grew in the first phase of deconditioning. I have felt A LOT of bitterness over the last couple of years. I guess in feeling that I was living in an illusion of being seen but there was actually very little true recognition because I wasn’t even being me. So as I make decisions that align more with myself, I feel “left behind”, “cut off” from energy supplies, and I feel the expectation from outside that I will continue initiating because that’s what I mostly did, and so invitations don’t come from the places where I used to “get energy”. And it’s a very slow process for life to repopulate with new energy beings who do recognize me and invite me. Have you witnessed this in the journey of projectors in their deconditioning process? My third line whispers that I may need to move on to a completely new place to live and start from zero, but as myself this time.

Yes!!!! The guidance on the decision making process according to one's Design, I have found VERY interesting because its something I've always been unsure of. Family and friends have often tried to rush me into making a decision and knowing now being a Generator with Emotional Authoriry and that it's best I wait before making any, I feel alot of relief. I've got decisions in my life now about where to live and work so I'm putting the experiment into action ⭐⭐⭐

Richard, I studied astrology 35 years ago, never practiced it as I did not like the predictive aspects, not intuitive enough I felt. Now HD is more my bag but I still return to astrology for transits! In astrology, I have a Leo Sun, Mercury,Pluto conjunction in 6th house and a stellium of planets in 7th, Moon, Venus, Mars conjunct in Virgo, with Neptune and Jupiter added to the mix in libra. When I was into astrology, several heavy outer planets, Saturn also in 6th, passing over these 2 houses! A very trying number of years! Astrology tells me however, HD does not, that my preoccupation in life is more what is outside of the self, on the DC side of the chart, while I find HD so egotistical, so self centred! Interestingly, I have 3 major houses, 4th, 6th and 7th and 3 defined centres, Throat, Spleen and Will, all others open, my shadow sides! I find astrology treats outer planets as more cosmos or generational, while HD puts more focus on them in our individual make-up. The fast moving planets affect us daily while transits from far away are long term trends. What I love about HD are the Incarnation Crosses, the nodes not being important before, though it has changed, in astrology, and the circuitry. I am individualistic and very tribal, a Manifestor 1/3, Splenic, single definition, cross of 4 ways (2). I still struggle with HD transits, Left/Right and meaning of channels. Combining astrology and HD helps me get a better picture as I continue to explore, investigate and experience my open centres! However, astrology tells me another period of heavy plants, Pluto, Saturn and Uranus are making inharmonious aspects to my stellium in 6th and 7th! HD has turned me into that self centred person I did not want to be years ago! I am almost 77, still struggling, without the channel of struggle in my HD chart. Love your videos!

Which system of astrology ( “Traditional” Western, Vedic, Horary etc.) has been implemented in the HD mandala? Chinese Astrology seems to have been omitted even when it has the same roots as the I Ching, which I find confusing. thanks for any clarification you can offer.

Yes Illuminated Perfume (interesting name!) there are many systems. But one truth. Not all systems are valid. Astrology certainly is in many ways. But, yes, my love is for Human d`esign obviously. I also know many astrolgers who have embraced Human Design. I wonder if there have been Human Design investigators who have gone onto astrology. Now that would be interesting to know. The poster I show, I do have copies of, but no matter how I wrap it the delivery services often find someway to stomp on the tubes. Hi Nicolas, I felt the same way about astrology and like you Human Design became a passion immediately. The Kiron Return is a cycle we all go through around the age of 50. It is a time of flowering and healing. In my view, it is the beginning of the best time in life in terms of wisdom and compassion, self-understanding and inner peace. From the looks of your photo that's a long while away, so I wouldn't be concerned about it. With Human Design in your awareness you have every chance of enjoying that stage, as I have. :)

Earth is not an element in astrology. It's not a less scientific approach, you use orbits, degrees...size and material of planets etc. It also immediately speaks to you. Iagree with the more practical approach that HD has, and the language, to some extent but most of the divide you create here is not correct if you have studied the system.

The way I see it, it is sort of an error - at one level - to try separate the two, as in essence, Human Design is a different dimension of / inseparable from astrology. Perhaps just as one COULD look at human biology and chemistry as different, it’s sort of a fundamentally flawed approach to try isolate the two and speak as though they’re separate, given they’re inextricably linked - the chemistry an integral part of the biology, just as the energetic level as well - whether looked at through the lens of eastern systems of meridians or western or epigentics - also factors in.
Thus, I find it quite silly when some people in astrology try to discount Human Design - or vice versa. It certainly may not be everyone’s path to dive into and master both, yet each have their value & place - with those dismissing Human Design missing out on so much for how the astrology translates into more of the human experience through the dynamics of the body vehicles, and likewise potentially much to be missed if focusing too strictly on the HD mechanics at cost of negating the astrological side.

Sure, HD relies on astrology to give calculations, and sure, biology relies on chemistry and vice versa... but the system that contains both biology and chemistry (HD) can't not be more sensitive to the nature of life.. there are 2 calculations in HD, which immediately separates itself from astrology...

Yes Rok, certain aspects of astrology are linked in the synthesis of Human Design. But, and this is something I did not mention, there are two calculations in Human Design, because HD recognises the Red and Black as different. The Form of the vehicle and the arrival of the Personality have different birth dates. Nonetheless, Human Design is not Astrology and Astrology is not Human Design. At the end of the day, decision-making is what frames the trajectory of one's life. I prefer the simple way of my response. It never fails. If it did then I would probably turn to Astrology or some other divination science. But, as Ra often said, so far, so good. HD works just fine for me. :)

Even if no one in the astrological world ever “discovered” the relevance of the body/unconscious chart, there is no way it could ever (have been) brought into form without the astrological calculations. Similar like someone could try separate physics from mathematics, but there can be no physics without mathematics and you cannot do physics without mathematics - it is a foundational, integral part of it.

@@humandesigninfo Yes. And that one fine example (of many) of what those who dismiss Human Design in favor of astrology - as while that body/unconscious calculation is still derived from astrology, it provides priceless insight not found in astrology’s body of knowledge.
Likewise, you still utilize astrology in the analyses of daily transits - although may translate in the (HD) language of hexagrams/gates & lines rather than that of astrology’s signs, decans & degrees… although there may be much further detail of value (for some people at some times) to be aware of planetary aspects that are not looked at in HD. (i.e. Pluto in gate 60 is bound to play out quite differently whether it’s in square or trine to other planets). Or there is definitely whole other layers of awareness to be unlocked/activated through contemplation of what houses (and/or signs) the planets are positioned in,
Though I do concur that on the practical application level, HD can/does offer a far more simplified & powerful way of engaging with life through the emphasis on S&A for the body’s innate guidance - versus the potential for overengagement of the mind’s common analysis of astrological aspects and attempting to predict & divine. (Though one could just as easily get lost in the rationale conditioning of trying to interpret Hd mechanics… although the mechanics do contain the keys to activate awareness of S&A for correct - rather than logical - decision making in ways little-to-nothing in the domain of astrology can/does).
