Hey I know this is an old video but I just bought an old Nikon D7000. Just staring out in photography and this tutorial really helped me get my barring on this camera. Thanks for the quality work.
Jared i have been watching you going back when i bought my d7000 I had to stop my photography for medical reasons not mine but my wife’s, she is doing great but 7 years passes quick. Watching this video is like seeing it yesterday .you inspire and help so much Thank you so much you are a natural teacher with so much to give.
I finally got my D7000 today (upgraded from a Sony a33) I had no idea how to navigate the settings or what buttons did what, I couldnt even get the dam thing to focus properly. Now thanx to your video I am enjoying all of the new settings :) Thank you so much.
Jared, got my D7000 a week ago. Been struggling with the manual ever since. You rule. Episode 2 really helped me. I knew most of episode 1. But the second episode saved me a ton of time. For the most part, I agree with your setting assumptions but you gave me a systematic check list with a pause button to go through the whole set of primary decisions. Really excellent bro! Thank you!
dude you kill it, would've taken me countless hours going through a manual and getting frustrated numerous amount of times. You explained all the necessary features needed on the d7000 in a short 30 minute video. Cheers bud
I just bought D7000 last thursday! And wow it really amazes me! The pictures i took in low light situation with my iso at 3200 really came out good. And if course thank you very much for this tutorial video! I learned a lot how the buttons work. Hope to see more!
Fantastic instruction. I have been mulling over whether to buy a D7000 or a D5200 and was worried that the D7000 may be too advanced for me. However, this in depth video, so fabulously well presented, has made everything very straight forward. So, I will be purchasing the D7000!! Good job Jared!!
Wow am i glad i've been following you some time now. Just bought a D7000 and remembered you're tutorial. It's nice to go through the complete camera with a professional;)
Hey man, just purchased this camera today and was browsing online for tutorial. I'm so glad I found your video, love your way of teaching. You talk fast so pausing and catching was done a couple times but thats what great about youtube. You made my my day and I will certainly start following your vids now.
thank you. Be sure to sign up for some free content that is going to help you become a better photographer quicker. froknowsphoto.com look for the orange box for your e mail.
Just ended up purchasing your video package. loved coming along for the ride on your photoshoots. went out today and used some of the knowledge I gained. thanks again.
Just picked up a new D7000 yesterday (my 1st DLSR) Thank you so much for the tutorials. Now i have a better understanding of the 7000 and a good reference video to go to.
Just watched video number 2.. very extensive Jared, I can see why it took half hour to film. Another great helpful walkthrough.. keep up the great work!
Thanks Jared. Just got the D7000 yesterday and couldn't find a quick way of changing the auto focus but got my answer by watching this. Awesome tutorial! Cheers!
So wonderful explanation...makes me use my nikon d7000 without no any obstacles...thanks alot...all in all i real like your absolutely afro hair... Big up@Photographer and Videographer
You have a new follower from Argentina man..!! I've seen quite a few videos of the FRO now and I can say that you have a very familiar way of explaining/teaching. It helps a lot!! Wish u the best!
Thank you Jared Polin, I bought that camera and may be I need to got through 100 times threw this video to get full command on camera. Your video was definitely helpful...
Excellent work putting this together. I know how hard it is. I've just upgraded from my D70S to this camera & basically been hacking my way through. Your video is straight down the line & bypasses most of the yuppy items. I like that. Keep up the good work..
Ditto on the great video. I just bought a D7000, love it. The options and menus are overwhelming. Im just watching all your stuff soaking it up like a sponge.
Holy crap, Video part 1 and 2 saved my life. You are SO much better than an instruction manual. Within the past 50 minutes, I've learned everything I needed to know about my new camera. Thanks again Jared!
Man, I read the book but the tutorials Part 1 and 2 were just what I needed. Walked through it with you, went back when I wanted to review again and now I have the confidence to take this on the street and start having some fun. Thanks a bunch!
Hi, Thanks alot for your time to make this video. It was very helpfull to me. I just switched over from the D5100. As the lay out is different I learned were every can be found in under an hour :) Keep it up and thanks again! Harald from Belgium.
thanks alot mate just got my new d7000 you been very helpful in all these to videos and some others that help me understand photography more cheers mate.
Thanks man, i am just getting into photography and picked up this camera yesterday, this and the last video you made are really easy to understand and explained so much. Cheers mate.
@JaredPolin Right on. I've lost pics due to card failure, and the dual card capability the main reason why I went to the D7000 from the D5000. I needed the backup in camera so it wouldn't happen again. Thanks for the great vids, btw! You've definitely helped me go from auto to manual.
Dude, first of all, excellent fro. Just got the camera, and I am so glad you took the time to do this. Way more comfortable with it and can't wait to start taking some great pictures.
Hey Jared, awesome video ...normal lingo....easy to understand.....very nice... Thank you so much.....Now I have to go and set the camera...lol Thanks again. cant wait to view your other "stuff"
Thanks Jared. It was just that in the manual it said I could do that. But it would not work. Your Video is great by the way and your other video as well. It has helped me a lot. Thanks for that.
Thanks for this walk through. I'm expecting a D7000 in a few days to replace a year-old D5100 that was heavily used, highly meddled with. Super excited for the D7000, looks like the $400 up from the D5100 will be worth it for more control over the exposure and functions.
Jared, I'd reconsider recommending the "overflow" mode for dual slot usage. I always use either backup mode or RAW on 1 / JPEG on 2 because there is always the chance one memory card fails. If you're using "overflow" you'd lose your images in this case. If you use RAW+JPEG with backup mode and one card fails, you won't lose your photos. Like you've said before, memory is cheap. Grab a couple 16GB or 32GB cards and never worry again!
Nice info Jared, thanks. I will be getting a dslr sometime this week. Have narrowed it down to the d7000 and Canons 7d. So far the d7000 is what I'm leaning toward.
Well as a check list: Check the lens is in auto focus (most lens's have a dedicated switch). Check the camera is in auto focus via the dial/button on the bottom below the lens. If you still have issues increase iso and then shutter speed with about f8 (mid range) then shoot.. last but not least try full auto on the camera. I know that this sounds a bit stupid but everyone makes mistakes like that (forget the switch on the lens ect) Hope this helped:)
It is a video format! If you really get into photography, you may want to start reading on things like ISO, and pitcure formats. I got a basic photography book when I first started 25 years ago. It was helpful.
Thank for the tutorial Jared helped a great deal as i just got a D7000 which the wife brought me, now i can have some fun with the camera just need to get some glass now.
just bought the D7000, your vid was helpful and GREAT thank you very much, im a new subscriber, maybe some field video showing us your settings for the D7000 in different lighting conditions etc.?
To 94LG: on the front of the camera on the right side where the lens attaches to the body you'll see the auto focus dial, right in the enter of that dial there's a tiny button, press and hold it and while you press it turn the main dial, which is the wheel on the top of the camera on the right hand side of the screen, where you naturally rest your thumb, hope this helps.
@SideshowBob44 the nikons in my mind is a lot easier to navigate and is the same from the very basic entry level to the top of the line pro. So if you know one you know all opposed to the canon.
Here's one example of when Auto ISO can be helpful. I set up a landscape shot for which I want a very specific aperture (maybe to blur a distracting foreground) and specific shutter speed (maybe to freeze motion caused by wind), so I'll use Manual mode and dial those in. I can now shoot, even in changing light, knowing I'll get good exposures because the camera will tweak ISO as needed. *And,* I can still be creative with exposure by using exposure compensation.
That was really great i have set up mine to jpeg Fine coz im new to this but later thinking of changing to ROW plus jpeg....really helpful thanks again
I shoot raw with monochrome preview all the time, its wonderful for previewing the tonality of a shot without the distraction of colour. Then when I bring the RAWs into Lightroom or aperture...pop ... straight back to colour for editing.
FroKnowsCameras too... Super helpful video, watched Nikon D7000 How To Tutorial 1&2 - Know I have a way better understanding of my D7000 - YOU ROCK Jared!
