As a retired HVAC mechanic with 35 years of experience. I have one tip about foaming coil cleaners ...... always start at the bottom and work your way up. The reason being is that the run down of foaming cleaner can prevent proper penatration. If you start at the bottom and work you way UP..... You always have coils with NO FOAM IN THE WAY. JMO. WORKED FOR ME FOR 35 YEARS....LOL

@@diyhvacguy have you ever run into a TRANE with bottle brush fins.?? When I was a rookie. I had to call my boss and ask what to do. He told me that TRANE recommended removing the complete outer shell of the unit. Then, take your torch and burn off all that you can. Always being mindful of burning fins. Once that is done. Clean from the inside out. .... worked like a champ. Once you've burned the outside and cleaned from the inside out. You MAY have spray the outside and inside and clean again. This is no joke. My unit is 4 years old. Cooled my house like a champ the first 2 summers.. The 3rd Summer it struggled mightily to keep the temp below 80. Nothing changed, same ole house, I thought maybe it was just a hot summer. I had an A/C guy come out to check on it before the spring and he was like everything is good but you need to clean this unit its dirty. Now I couldn't actually see any dirt on it for me to call it dirty but he explained "I've since verified online" that the smallest amount of dirt/dust on the coils can change the efficiency of any unit. After he left I cleaned my unit with simple green and could immediately tell a difference in the coldness of the air coming from my vents. I'd advise cleaning at least 2 times each summer in the south and maybe once in the winter.

A neighbour said her AC did not work very well any more, I took a look and it looked like some one had wrapped the condenser in a carpet, it was so plugged like i have never seen before!, i removed the cover (after the disconnect) and unwrapped the carpet of grass clippings, and washed it out thoroughly, Worked fine after that, told her to mow the lawn in the other direction instead of shooting it into a running condenser,

My husband works as a plumber so he knows how to get around the maze of home warranties. One thing he always tells his customers is to buy the highest coverage. Almost always, the customer would think because they have a warranty that things are covered. Basic coverage, imo, definitely seems like a scam. Barely anything is covered in these instances.
We have top tier and have actually gotten our money’s worth.

Yeah, I stopped using them because whenever I would look up the reviews of the companies they sent to fix stuff in my house they had terrible reviews and there were always issues. If the first company did a terrible job or didn't fix the problem and you want a different company you have to pay the service fee again. Better to just put that money to the side in an account for home maintenance and then you can use whomever you want.

Have a home warranty company and they will find any reason to avoid paying even though you’ve paid them TWICE over what they SHOULD pay for, per the contract agreement. Yeah, been there and done got what they owed. But I must say that ours was worth the monthly payments because eventually they paid for the entire repair/replacement. Not only our A/C but a few other major household appliances. They will balk at first but just stick to your guns, err, cajones.

I always clean from the inside out. The Fan sucks inward and up. I blow out from the inside with compressed air first. Then hose from the inside out, then apply coil cleaner in the inside and spray water outward. Yes, you have to remove the fan but it gives you a better result and better cooling. I do this once at the beginning of each season. Then once per month, just use water to keep coils clean. TIP: when cutting grass or weed whacking, turn your unit off until your finished working around it. If it's running, it'll suck all that crap up into your coils.......save yourself a headache, turn it off until your done.

Question, I have a ducane condenser 3-ton unit. I used a mister on this condenser for two seasons and now a few of the outside and inside cooling coils are corroded and falling apart. So later I would like to replace the coil only if possible since the fan and compressor still working fine and to save money and not a new system with R410A. My unit is approximately 18 years old with R22 coolant. Is there a replacement cooling coil for this Ducane? I saw in one of your vlogs that you replaced the condenser from a garage roof with a RUUD unit. The unit you removed looked like a Ducane brand and could be the same size as mine seer 13 and believed to be a 3-ton unit. Again, thank you for showing us how to DIY

1st it’s a double row coil so by washing it from the outside in all that happened was packing the dirt between the two coils. 2nd all that cleaner trapped between the two coils is going to start deteriorating the aluminum and turn it to dust. 38 years of doing HVAC putting coil cleaner on a condenser coil is a big no no.

That’s a load of bologna. The dirt and dust goes down the fins to the bottom, you can literally see that happening in my video. If you're using a nozzle with decently high pressure, take caution to spray head cuz if you spray it at an angle you can flatten the fins on the coil.
