  • In Arunachal Pradesh, Smt. Chakat Aboh was sworn in as a member of the state Legislative Assembly today. The Oath was administered by Assembly Speaker Passang Dorjee Sona at Dorjee Khandu Auditorium in the Assembly Secretariat in Itanagar.
Smt. Chakat Aboh, wife of slain NPP leader Tirong Aboh, won the recently held by-election to the Khonsa (West) Assembly as independent candidate. She defeated Azet Homtok, another independent candidate by 1887 votes.
The bye-election to the Khonsa West seat was necessitated after Tirong Aboh, who contested the April 11 Assembly election as NPP nominee and got re-elected from the said seat, was gunned down by suspected NSCN militants in Tirap district on May 21, two days ahead of polls results.
With this the number of women representatives in the Arunachal Assembly has become 4. In the 60-seat state assembly now, BJP has 41 MLAs, Congress and NPP four each, JD (U) seven, PPA one and three Independents.
