You can achieve control of the wing trailing edge sweep angle by turning on 'Sec SW' as one of the section control radio buttons. Set it to 0. Feel free to ask questions on the Google Group.
Thanks, that would have made things a lot easier over the last few months. I think the first time I saw those radio buttons it struck me as one of the most baffling things I had ever seen in any user interface, and thereafter my eyes somehow never even registered their existence - as you can see from this video it's like I never even saw them :) Even now playing around with them afresh, it took a while to grok what was going on. Some mouse-over tooltips would go a long way to help new users in such a specialized program...
Thank you. I am gonna make a few program suggestions here; FLZVortex, Schwerpunkt52(Center of Gravity52) and Winghelper. FLZVortex is really difficult but super powerful and Schwerpunkt52 and WingHelper are really easy to use.
Amazing Video, helps me really a lot to get in to designing my own model. The first time I've seen this program I was overwhelmed by the mass of possibilities, you explained it very well and made it look really doable for me. I'm looking to design a glider, I can definitely recommend this video to people new in openvsp.
Weeee .. my heads buzzing with confusion and excitement. ALL GOOD ... Cheers (designing a GIS mapping drone and wanted to figure the analytics before . )
Concerning the undo/redo behavior at 9:00, this is pretty much normal for many applications. The software is treating the text box as its own entity with its own undo/redo history. It doesn't have to be confusing as long as you think in terms of focus. Whatever the mouse last clicked will be the focused entity on which undo/redo will be applied to.
I think if you actually used this software for a while you'll discover all kinds of jank related to undo/redo that I didn't have time to mention. For example some text inputs don't do any kind of undo, and some do the full 'per input' undo history you're talking about. Undo/redo also may either work or not depending if you have the main window focused or some other dialog. Mostly what messes me up with the 'per input' ones is that when you hit enter to apply the text, the result happens, but when you undo, nothing happens. I've never used any other software where I would have to do Ctrl+Z, Enter, Ctrl+Z, Enter ... etc to step through the history and see the results being applied.
@@iforce2d I replied to the wrong comment. I mixed it up with a notification I got on another dialogue about XFLR5, sorry about that. XFLR5 Just happens to have similar undo/redo "jank". 'And you're absolutely right, I haven't been using this for a long time. I'm still discovering new "jank" every day. Thankfully there are alternatives to this software and it is not irreplaceable. Have you tried anything else thats not a commercial CAD program?
@iforce2d hello is the unit when we are changing dimensions of the aircraft all in meters? if not, how can I change in openVSP? i am having trouble with that
I have to model a drone like the plane you used in your demonstration. As a newbie to all of this topics it should be very useful to me to start with the design you are using in this video. How can I find it? Is it available to the public?
It is an interesting Software. I think of could it be an Alternative vor the XFLR5, that I have installed.. And i think of, how can I export the Geometry, if I have specified in OpenVSP, into my FreeCAD.
I realized that I approached it the wrong way, and would need to redesign pretty much from scratch. If I take this up again I will be doing it with geared steppers, connected directly to each arm section.
I prefer OpenVSP because - more shapes available - blended shapes (wing/fuse) - more export formats (esp. planar slice) - simulation tool feels more integrated/one-click
Is it supposed to stall at 40 degrees? To be honest if you're thinking about designing transonic aircraft I'm sure you could find better sources of information than random people on the internet :)
iforce2d but is there any other requirement like typing a specific file name?My computer’s language is in Chinese but not the file name, is that the problem?
I don't really know, but I have had similar problems with Japanese paths. For example, this would be a problem: c:\企画\飛行機\skyhunter.vsp3 But this would be ok: c:\designs\plane\skyhunter.vsp3 As long as the full path has no double-byte characters, it was fine even on a Japanese operating system. If this is not the issue, then I don't have any more ideas sorry.

@@iforce2d +1 I didn't even know they toggled.
same works if you put sweep location at 1, then back edge is always straight
I use this software so infrequently that every time I need to I head back here to remind myself how it works! Once again, thanks for these tutorials!
Thanks for the videos and supporting the hobby. Cheers from Brazil
Just installed it. Thank you so much! It's a beautiful program.
this is officially a waffling channel all waffle all day baby
Thank you a lot. It is a really good start for OpenVSP. I am looking forward for some simulations tutorial.

Very nice work Chris
This is really awesome, thank you very much 😍

Yeah it's definitely not the easiest program to get started with, that's for sure :)

This is great. Thank you.
Ty for showing this.
Super 👍
Good tutorial👍👍

There are many files to download here: hangar.openvsp.org/

I would really like to know how to create the curved leading edge of the wing on your model. (See at time 3:45.) How did you do this?

The units can be whatever you want.
Just found this channel through your robot arm project, it ends at part 4? what happened? loss of interest?

Big question, +/- vs XFLR5?
I prefer OpenVSP because
- more shapes available
- blended shapes (wing/fuse)
- more export formats (esp. planar slice)
- simulation tool feels more integrated/one-click

Is this software good for conducting analysis on transonic airceaft?
There is a 'mach' setting for the analyzer, but how useful it is I don't know.
@@iforce2d I'd already inputting the mach number, but the vspaero analysis results shows it wasn't stall at 40 degree angle of attack

Do you know how to add wing fillet’s?
No such feature. Unless you mean the 'blending' settings.

Hi, I have trouble saving my model, could you help with it?
Does the path name have Chinese characters in it? Maybe this program does not support non-ascii paths/files.

Not just the file name, the full path I'm talking about.
@@iforce2d Oh...Perhaps, cuz my computer system language is in Chinese.

Is this better than Blender?
Completely different software, not even a valid comparison.

Thanks. I will try it. I have Blender.
can u tell us which model u used first
If you mean the model file, that would be 'homeslice 3' here iforce2d.net/sketches/stackedSlices/
