  • In this video I paint some clementines in a dark brown ceramic bowl. I develop the overall drawing and define values first before going into applying thick impasto paint to create texture and volume.

Aleksey, as usual with such impressive work of art. Love the music background! Relaxing and soothing. I admire your work and when I’m down, it is a great way to lift myself up every time I watch your videos. Great composition and the colors with such harmony invites to just pick one and eat it! Thanks so much! Take care.

Wow. I really like how those oranges glisten. Excellent painting here.

Another excellent Aleksey video. Adding the blue reflections and light to the background and the highlights to the oranges really made it realistic in an abstract way.

Great job. I love impasto and you clearly no how to utilize this technique very well. What medium are you using if any? The fluidity of the paint is exciting to see. Thanks for this video!🎨🖼😍

Thanks! I use linseed oil to make the paint more fluid, and for impasto, just pure paint in most cases.

Love it but why the sharp rough edge to the bottom of the bowl and the left orange fruit bleeding over the edge of the bowl. This must have been deliberate. Why?

the impasto made the clementines so real, touchable. Do you use some impasto medium to achieve the consistence? Thank you for sharing this video.

Can I see you do this In portrait painting pls ... I'm thinking about this approach in my portraits and wondering if to use impastor for the underpainting and another impasto layer on top for the actual colouring then glazes on top for the detail. What do u think about this approach or do u think the impasto texture should be done just once like u did here where the underpainting is flat. Pls let me know

I haven’t painted a portrait in a while. When I do, I’ll post it. I paint alla prima(in one sitting). When you’re painting in multiple layers, usually you’d build the initial layer with some thick impasto in the lights, and thinner paint in the shadows. Then, in the subsequent layers, you would paint in translucent glazes for the most part, except in the lights, where you’d use thicker paint and perhaps some impasto. That said, there is no one right way to paint. You should try different things and adapt what works for you.
