How Mythic Nighthold Almost Destroyed my Guild and Made me Quit Raiding

- Rewatching this video, I realized that I don't think I gave enough credit to everyone else who stuck with me and stepped up throughout this entire tier. While I might have been the one calling most of the shots, the success we shared is just as much theirs as it is mine.
I thought this would be a great story to share with you guys amidst so many people telling me about their guild drama.
We are still recruiting as well! WeAreIndestructible.com

It seems that the video title was unclear judging on the comments, I'm not quitting raiding. What the title means is that it almost destroyed my guild and that it almost made me quit raiding.
Sorry for the confusion!
Big respect to you man. I could tell near the end of the video you were getting choked up, that's the mark of someone who gives a shit about what they've invested such a big chunk of their time in to. My guild is going through similar shit with M-NH progression and we're working through it but we're also starting to feel the burnout. I'm glad you guys pulled through it and came together.
never stop going big d man
proud of u, for the first time, i realized asmongold is a real man!
great work and nice that you take this serious and not just post some vids that we like. even if there is so much culture in the guild, you make you family guild and step up the game higher ! respect for it !!!! if i had more time or the knowledge i would have applied just to help with it ;) again great work and you learn the best when you are trowed into battle :p
stop taking is so fucking seriously. ITS A FUCKING GAME. If you are going to play it like an elitist bitch then no one is going to want to play with you, no matter who you are. This is the problem with wow, guild style planned raid times. Just join a pre-made, keep your mouth shut, do your best, and go on your way.
"Whenever I tell an inside joke I'm the only one inside" This hit me hard.
Y_Y
PhoenixGaming Same I never got into another guild that I loved like my original guild with all my friends it's sad when guilds come to an end
Legit deep af
Thats what happens when you get 5 people in the guild that do everything together and with nobody else, like a lunch room they sit at their table and only if the others are there. Learn to socialize in a guild and everyone can have fun.
PhoenixGaming yeah. That comment crushed me a little.. that's one of the reasons I stopped playing 6 years ago
Change guild name to destructible
HA,GOT EM!
brian h Savage
brian h Destroyed
brian h Nah, he should change it to Asmonguild.
holy fuck dude
Speaking as the founder of Indestructible 8.5 years ago, thank you Asmongold for having the courage, fortitude and determination to keep the guild going and kill Mythic Guldan. We went through similar drama in H ICC, and all that didn't kill us made us stronger. I haven't raided with you guys since Cata launch, but I still root for Indestructible and will continue rooting for you until the very end. Good luck, you have transformed yourself from the guild's loudmouth elitist in Cata to my IRL hero. Thank you.
P.S. now that you have Mythic Guldan out of the way, moar comedy vids plz kk? Thx.
Sure Shaniqua ;D, don't rage and cry too hard now lol ;D.
"founder" acting like hes one of the founding fathers of something mighty lmao.
Sure Apu ;D, so angry and psychotic lol ;D.
Bro, for a guild to last as long as 8.5 years, that's some mighty shit on it's own. The fact that NH could've easily killed a guild with that kind of history is even mightier. It takes some big kahuna's to step up and not let a guild die and then go on to get the Mythic Kill for a raid that almost killed the guild is epic.
I'd be proud of the guy too if I had of been a founding member. There's some good history in this guild and Asmond not only saved that history, but also added a massive achievement to its books.
dimkacracker a guild that has survived for that long is something special imo. Most guilds Fall apart after 1 year maybe 2 but 8,5 years, That's a long Ass time
"whenever i tell an inside joke... im the only one inside" 0_0 now that's some deep shit right there...
Back when asmon played the game at an high level 😢would be lit to see the bald man return to the mythic raiding scene but its sadly not worth the time investment for him
I get the empty feeling; It was not doing it with your friends. but at least you did it in their memory.
Abstergo so sentimental. Pity
Asmongold:
Quite honestly, I don't know where to begin. Your story hit me hard. I have a hard time in World of Warcraft, because I have Cerebral Palsy, and a fused left wrist. Because of this, I have a hard time with Raiding because PUGs don't have any patience with me. They skip trash - I end up pulling it. They do those jump glitches, I can't do it because of my hands. I get called a noob. Once, I even got called a BOT because I get lost or turned around. My brain knows mechanics, but my hands don't cooperate sometimes and I get kicked more often than I finish raids.
I my humble opinion, the Ahead of the Curve achievements have ruined World of Warcraft, because people no longer have the patience or fortitude to learn, plan, adapt, and evolve with the world of Azeroth. It makes it hard for players like me to join groups because they are asking for those with AOTC achievements - and so I am often left behind the curve.
I tell you this - not for pity - but because your story has inspired me to keep going at my own pace. The rewards will come - and more importantly - the few people I do play with understand my situation and do not judge me. I only play on weekends, as I spend my days writing novels and poetry books (I have published one of each - working on the second novel now), doing computer classes for Excel Certification, and practicing Shotokan Karate (2018 US Open Paralympic Kata Champion - Silver Medal - currently going after a Green Belt), and many other things.
I have a 110 Warlock (Alliance), and I have earned every bit of the achievements that I do have with little help. I leveled said Lock from 1-80 doing nothing but questing when I started in 2008 - BEFORE BIND ON ACCOUNT GEAR EXISTED! Just thought I would throw that in there.
Your videos have always been a go-to for the achievements I would like to, uhm, achieve! My current guild no longer raids, and I would like to find one that would be willing to take me in. Maybe someday....
Blessings to you always, in spirit.

Why did you put ur name at the bottom u mong
@Rare Peppers why'd you upload trash UFC 2 footage you mong
@@Dylan-kp1cz mong
@@Dylan-kp1cz you are an absolute piece of shit.
Because signing something is, in western cultures, a showing of owning the statement or being proud of it. Even if someone knows who the letter is from.
How often do you get letters in the mail that are signed at the bottom. They have a return address on them you dont say "Wtf did you not think your address was on it"
As for this person, they are proud of their statement and should be. And you should be ashamed of yours.
I tried going for raiding in Legion, joined a hybrid raiding/social guild, but i soon realized that systems like Legendaries and Artifact Power was too annoying and broken for my taste (remember no bad luck protection after 4th leggy? remember some specs NEEDING specific leggys to be even viable? remember Maw of Souls spamming?), so i started going social and returning to my old love for casual gold making. Things went decent for my guild, they got us a 7/7M in Nightmare, but in ToV, they never managed to kill helya. Some officers started leaving, our GM got a position on a pro Overwatch team, and bad signs for progression showed up left and right. In the beginning of 7.2 it finally became official, the guild was going full social. I'm gonna miss a lot of ppl who left, but some of those ppl still hangs around today on alts, we have some casual raids and m+ runs on our calendar still, but it still hit me hard back then.
if you actually read all that, i thank you for listening to my ramblings.
like my self i think people are not serious enough to do mythic content when herioc raiders can get all legendaries and pretty much a 12 set of 905+ just by doing herioc
What team did your Gm get on?
snuff you arent pro
i don't remember the name :/
MagGunDO17 its just a dead game, jesus
As a rookie GM and raid leader of a guild that has been around since mid-WoD, your story is really inspiring to me Asmongold. We have been very hesitant to push Mythic NH too hard because of the same issues you spoke about in this video and have lost 5 members in the last two weeks, and dropped a raid night to avoid or at least slow the burnout of progression in such a difficult raid. If we end this tier only 6/10M I will consider that a win, knowing how brutal the rest of the raid is on the group as a whole.
i have a similar story to this but it started early in the tier, exactly at the start of nighthold. my guild saw that progress is just a big hassle and staying on top just took too much time and effort when everyone in the guild just became too old for hardcore because of our IRL jobs and families... My guild is 10 years old and we have been hardcore ever since TBC however recently we went the casual route because of all the hassle legion raiding offered.
I feel sorry for you Asmongold that the core people of your guild left and abandoned ship, one core thing in my guild is that we all were friends and we built our bonds for 10 years and have been loyal to each other ever since. We all agreed on that we have enough and just simply all agreed that we will focus on Heroic raiding only because of the ease of flexibility and also do mythic kills every now and then when we have the correct numbers and just do farm. no progression required and no hassle there.
Ofcourse it takes people that are loyal and have similar mindsets so that's how my guild succeeded... sure we do not do mythic raiding and we are far far off from a mythic guldan kill however we simply do not care about it and just want to keep raiding together because of the bonds.
Stay strong Asmongold.
I went from a mythic raider at the beginning of the expac, then to normal raiding, then pugging, then LFR only...then logging in once or twice a week. And now I have not logged in for over a month.
The grind killed me honestly. This expansion fucking killed me with the grind in everything you do.
Mythic Raiding is a fucking job. It's not even fun. I come on the game to have a good time, not work. I really dont understand how people like it
Ease bc they dont have real jobs :D
Maybe because some of us like that feeling if you kill a hard part of the game? What is there to enjoy if you can faceroll the bosses? We will kill guldan M the next ID, only raiding twice a week for 3 hours. Nobody is grinding anything hardcore.
im The raid leader of a daytime EU mythic guild and i can sympathise with some of the problems you had and i can extremely relate to what you go through, because as a daytime raiding guild we face the same problems every single day not having the player pool to pick from as a night time guild would. So to get through hat tough time is a testament to you and your management teams leadership. Its rough how you have to manage players but you did it in the only way you had left and sometimes thats the way it has to be. Finally big gratz on clearing the instance :)
At that point, I liked this video.
i come back to this video very often. not only was this the first asmondgold video i ever watched, it was also the first wow video i ever watched when i came back to the game at the end of nighthold. i was absolutely dogwater, grey parsing in an aotc guild as low-end raider and as someone who didn't know how to do my rotation let alone aspirations of running a guild. 5 years later and since then I started a guild and have 4 straight CE's as a 2-night guild under our belts through some of the worst content blizzard has ever put in the game with everything at it's worst and this video (among others) has helped keep the lights on. so thank you for that.
well done this is why a lot of ppl in the wow community look up to you.
He's 5"7, no one looks up to him
FeelsGoodMan I'm actually taller than someone.
tyler1 does
I haven't played in months and i still watch his videos lol
my youtube comment didnt get buried and it sits proudly in the front page. I can die in peace now.
Never knew you went through this, I commend you for doing everything in your power to keep it going. This kill was well deserved and I hope it brought you some happiness. You asked for similar stories in regards to what you experienced. Flashback to right before legion release, I was a raid leader along with several other players that I've played with since Vanilla. Everything went fine, we cleared some bosses in HFC, had a good time. Legion releases, our GM takes a break as he was burnt out. I decided to step up and give it my all and try to make things happen with the guild. I talked to a lot of the guild, and most assured me that they were staying, they liked raiding here. A couple players left, but to be expected when changes of leadership happen. By the time Emerald Nightmare was released, I went from 20 solid raiders down to 5. The very same people that left the guild were the ones that said they weren't going anywhere. I took those 5 raiders, did some heavy recruiting and only managed to get 1-2 more. Faced with what to do decision, I gave pugging a shot. The raiders that left went right into heroic EN and proceeded to wipe all night. The people that joined and the 5 that stayed, we cleared all the way to Cenarius the first night. Only doing 1-2 attempts max per boss. We had #3 and #4 on most kills that night on the server (#8 and 12 on Cen/Xav). Sadly lifestyle changes forced the guild into disarray and ultimately ended with only 2-3 remaining.
What you had to go through I can relate and commend you for holding it together and giving it your all.
many wipes left side
Joey Diaz you play wow mang? lol
Thats a 50 dkp minus
many WHELPS left side not wipes
Hey I love you joey karate
Respect! I have watched heaps of your videos, but now you Sir have a new subscriber. I've been playing since the beginning, but but was only raiding top tier during BC when World Firsts where all the rage. Since then I had to cut back from the toll it was taking, so I turned into a casual raider. My guild decided to start mythic raiding a couple of months ago and I quit the raid team for a few issues, but mainly because I didn't want to make raiding Work
I quit raiding in heroic firelands, I have no idea how people have done it for 13 years it's all so similar and I only did it for like 5-6 years
good point, i dont raid but i see its appeal, see i hate football, but people get crazy about it, and its pretty much the same everytime...
Chiyori Nakanishi I'm 13 years in, burnout is real but it's all about balancing your priorities irl and in game and keeping a level head through it all, like anything in life it takes a lot of introspection and patients.
"IM 13 YEARS IN BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, IT'S ALL WORTH FOR MUH INTERNET POINTS"
Truth Seeker a little late but no, nothing like football, football has unexpected outcomes, from a huge play off of a short pass. To a blocked field goal return to win the game, raiding you know the outcome already and get to try and try again, you also know what you need to do and actions of the raid are already made by the programmer before you even know the raids name
Could almost drop a tear to this. Congrats and well done!
Great video man, I respect you a lot and always have. I don't think I'll ever disagree with you. Massive congrats on your Mythic Gul'dan kill, you 100% deserve it.
Fanboys are the worst, just the absolute worst...
Congratz on the mythic kill man. And in regards to being the oldest member of your guild, I can't say I've tried it myself, but I can say that I think it is an opportunity. You're the one who has the best idea of what the guild was like, and always has been like, since the early days. That means you are the guy with the chance to keep that 'soul' of the guild alive and well. Rebuild it if you have to, as something old but also new.
My guild is running in to the problem of getting people to show up to mythic raids. Why run mythic raids when heroic gear can titanforge up and gear you out. Mythic is harder, time consuming, and the rewards are lacking in these people's opinion. I myself enjoy the challenge, transmog recolors, and the prestige of it. Most applicants we get only want to raid heroic. Mythic raid ready people on my server only want to join the tip top raid guilds that are almost mythic cleared and not work through progression.
TLDR : Blizzard made mythic raids almost entirely pointless
blizz made raiding almost entirely pointless which is another problem. i know people who havent set foot in nighthold past lfr and barely pvp. 900 ilvl
Shenan Beaghan I haven't set foot in a single mythic dungeon or even lfr and geared off of relinquished tokens. 903 ilvl
yeah. see. i got a 910 the other day from one
same feeling i like the challenge and all if the reward is worth my time like the artifact weapon skin if i can get a 925 ilvl gear from herioc then why bother doing mythic
with the new titanforge system even normal gear goes up to 925, i guess so people can gear quicker for tos..? idk lol
Enjoyed the story so much! It really shows that with hard work it can pay off, maybe not in every way you hoped but you got that mythic Gul'dan kill. It's rly good to see what happens behind the scenes of guilds like yours and what can happen. Keep up the good work!
I miss this Asmon :(
sorry to hear about guild troubles. Had a similar issue where lost a lot of good guildies, but it was because we weren't able to reach the 20 man mark for mythic. The guild ended up dissolving and although I keep in touch with 1-2 members raiding was pretty rough until I found a new group of raiders I enjoyed being with. Hope it works out well!
I just love that when a key player leave, most of them has put them selves on a pedestal believing that without them "you" cant progress - you fill the gap, which in some cases is difficult, you work hard and allocate a tremendous amount of effort and finally reach a goal that you previously couldn't reach. That feeling when those that left wants back into the guild - you in turn gives them the thumb down and drop the mic in front of their faces. knowing full well that we did better when they weren't here!
year and a half later i still come back to view this video, i find it inspirational.
Damn man, my guild is only 4/10, of course having just killed Krosus, and we're having the damn same issues. I'm burning out, our members are burning out; the attrition is real. I don't know how the hell you pulled the guild together after all that. I'm trying my ass off, recruiting like crazy, trying to find a good mix of personality and skill. It's hard as fuck. Good job man, I know at least part of the struggle.
Taha Tuncel idiotic elitist comment.
lol
Actually, it's true. If a guild is not at least 8/10 by now it's not a Mythic guild, and should just stop trying.
+Sethus isnt true honestly some guilds have roster problems doesnt mean they arent skilled
May I ask why?
From a sister on the other side of the shard on Stormreaver, kudos to you for making the best of what appears to be a universally stressful situation. We've had those pains going with finishing heroic and trying to start mythic.
Don't normally say this to a stranger or an alliance, but my warrior friend speaks highly of you and it sounds like you had a shitty go of things, so... Good on you. I hope it improves for you
This jabroni was going to eat a pizza and eat McDonald’s knowing he was going to be late for raid time.
I don't think I have ever watched one of your videos before but this hit me hard. I have been GM of a Mythic Raiding Guild since 2009 and We completely fell apart at 6/7M in EN. I know that razors edge feeling where you feel like if any one person were to quit the guild would fall apart. I did all of the recruit and drama management and it was honestly like a second full time job.
"The only thing that is really the same that I have is the name under mine" - Asmongold
The Feels :(
It fucking hurts!
Awesome video man. Thanks for sharing your story. I quit mythic raiding about 2 ot 3 weeks ago as my guild benched me too many times to bring their favorites in but altogether I was just too burned out as well. There is like literally no incentive to do mythic raiding this expansion if at least this tier. I am just playing casually now and enjoying it more for now until I get into another guild.
this speaks to me because 2 weeks ago my guild disbanded aswell due to high levels off toxicity lack of officers doing theyr job so it started to wear down our gm and it just turned into a giant shit show with core members getting kicked/leaving some seriously shady shit with fake screenshots to create more drama than there already was basiclly our guild turned into a reality show
Twistt write that shit down and send it to preach gaming for drama Friday. sounds legendary
you know what, i might just do that xd
My guild is just a bunch of dudes that can't even kill heroic Xavius and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
elFacho haha that’s similar to my guild, took us like 200 wipes on KJ Heroic before we got it down but you better believe we had a blast the whole way through
I'm not gonna lie and say i watch everything u make, but i do watch a fair amount of the vids u post to UA-cam. i have to tell u that this is the most relatable to the wow player u have ever been in my opinion. i don't know what your ultimate goal is, as a vid and streamer, but i just wanted to say thanks for showing us all your human side. this is a great video about the serious issues that many of us are facing as guild officers. the guild I'm in lost its raid leader halfway through progression in normal nighthold and then weeks later we lost our main tank. so now i am tanking for the guild, on a character i only leveled 6 weeks ago, and i have Always been a dps spec. our guild is going through a lot of turmoil, but we are strong, we have the legacy of being one of the oldest guilds on our server to uphold. i am trying like hell to hold us together to maintain that legacy. ty again for the vid.
hey man I just want to say that I really appreciate you laying this stuff down on a public media. I think a lot of people are struggling this tier. I'm happy for you, and it has really given me things to think about. my good is a heroic guild that in the past had been mythic level but due to similar issues you have had to deal with we have fallen apart. you give me hope that my team can really do what we want to and succeed. I'm the raid leader and 3rd in command and it is a struggle sometimes. thanks again. #bigdicks
Big respect for stepping up to the plate, probably gives you an idea of why so few want to raid lead though, I know i play with the same group of friends in WoW and various other MMOs and we always have a fight about who to make leader because we all know its hell.
But it feels pretty damn fine when you pull it off
well done dude, just shows how difficult mythic raiding is
so are you the leader of indestructible on KT ?
I dont see how you can wipe 100x on a boss that YOU KNOW what hes going to do and in what order. That just seems crazy to me. Sounds like theres a lot of people who may be inbred and/or retarded. PvE isnt rocket science. It's more like Algebra.
1. no pve is not like algebra, you clearly have no higher mathmatical knowledge at all since algerbra is representing numbers as letters to find an unknown value etc, whereas raiding you already know the endpoint and you are finding out how to get there.
raiding is difficult because its hard to keep 15+ people co ordinated
2. PVE is supposed to be fucking hard, go find out how many times it took guilds like method and serenity to kill mythic Gul'Dand and see how long it took them to clear mythic trial of valor
you are cleary either frustrated about something else, a pvp twat that thinks its better than pvp or just someone that has no mathematical grasp whatsoever
He is just another "oh you are fighting vs an AI it is super easy hurr durr". Yeah. Well then why don't you go ahead, gather a few more people like you, and do everything on the first try. You would be world famous. :) Oh wait...
Could you imagine if this was vanilla and you had to coordinate 40 players. Regardless of the numbers though you still have to get everyone to work together.
thats why especially vanilla raids were stupidly easy as far as tuning vs today's stuff, because between the coordination effort with no quality means of doing so, lack of highspeed/quality internet connections, PC limitations and everything else there were some serious issues one would have to contend with in order to round up even 15 players on the same page.
You can even see somewhat of a tech jump by AQ because even watching old fraps footage it goes from like 180p 5frames per second in onyxia's lair to 480p 25fps by aq40. So the raids werent just easy because everyone was new, there were many considerations that made it an issue.
That ending made me smile, all of you together so you could take a screenshot, congrats on the mythic dude
That doesn't sound like NH killed the guild, sounds like real-life did.
Sounds like both did, NH mythic is serious shit, its very difficult, hardest in wow since like Cthun prenerf/ many quits that were hardcore disbanded in NH, so its not just RL
Horridon is when I got 'caught' laughing...of course it's 'funner' to succeed..but, seriously?
great story. youre a good storyteller and its great to hear you could step up and walk the walk. looking forward to the vids.
This is why I'm glad I don't raid HC in progression. Heroic clears are good enough for me.
As a raid leader of a casual guild progressing through mythic I can't imagine trying to hold together a hard core raid group. I have an awesome officer core to back my decisions and every week we clear another boss. Hopefully we will clear gul'dan within the next 2 weeks but if we don't it won't stress the guild. The big perk of being a casual raid group is it's "mostly" stress free and we are looking forward to Tomb whether we clear mythic gul'dan or not. Grats on the kill and good job standing your ground and fighting to keep your guild in the game. I know it's "just a game" but the sense of accomplishment will never be diminished in your eyes and I'm sure there is no better feeling.
CLICKBAIT ! we all know you wont stop going deep for the purp's
Wow, somebody doesn't get irony.
purp's what?
Well done
I am in a relatively decent guild on a dead server. The people are mostly older and have no real interest in progressing into mythic past the casual level. I am in no position to find a home in any guild at the level I want to be at- nor should those on that level even consider me at the moment. So, I am forced to face the reality of forming my own guild / raid group, and working our way upto that mythic guldan kill. I have one other person with me that is all in, but even so, starting and running a successful guild is a monumental undertaking. I sometimes wonder if we're up to it, or even if thats what I myself want. All I know is that I want to be on the ever-bloody edge of whatever content blizz has to throw at me. You've always inspired me, and probably thousands of others to always do their best, and to exceed their own perceived limitations. To Never Stop Going Big Dick.
And so, with all that shit out of the way, with unwavering determination and unyielding resolve, is coming to KT. See you on the leaderboards, my friend.
Just quit raiding hardcore this expansion like I did, fuck it, admit these raids have been WAYY toomuch of a grind and hassle compared to even wod, this xpack is ALL grind and RNG bs, Its SO much better playing without hardcore raiding trust me man fuck it was a burden i was freed of.
your a bitch that doesnt want to put in the time....ok
loving these turbo sperg comments from people who obviously have no real life responsibilities
Down from Hardcore to casual, huh?. As for me, I just have fun doing random stuffs and LFR is good enough to see the story and bosses. Other words, just do what is fun to you.
Imagine someone saying this back in the day
i agree. After During EN and ToV i was a 7/7M 2/3M Sin rogue. and wasn't gettin all that burnt out.. but nighthold is where it took me to a point where i dont really want to play anymore. i survived to being 5/10m but whats the point in doing all this work and progress.... rerrolling just to redo M+ grinds. or doing M+ grinds on the 1 character just because its a good chance for a 915+ titanforged. and now how easy it is for the mythic raiders to do 10-15+ carries now. i feel like nothing was scalled up at all. and annoying retarded affixes were made
Congrats on finishing! Krosus killed my guild after 65 attempts and some of them were on the final piece of the platform. I stopped raiding because I just couldn't stomach going through the recruiting process for other guilds. I'm hoping to at least get through Heroic Tomb quickly though and then consider doing mythic. Thanks for always posting videos and being an inspiration. I'm a healer, but I always try to heal with the biggest of dicks.
guild doomed when tomb comes
I was on the same team for almost 5 years that died halfway through HFC. Random attrition and burnout lead to my team breaking up, similar to what happened to your guild. Never forget the people that impacted you along the way, and keep yourself open minded for the future and make new inside jokes with your new team mates. That's all you can do, and if you dwell on it you'll drive yourself crazy.
Welll... Thats why im only doing heroic and m+
guilds falling apart is a rough thing if you been in for the long haul. I remember when it happened to mine, A dispute with the main tank and the 2 guild leaders caused her to quit (they were being dicks to her), then not long afterwards the 2 leaders decided to faction and realm switch out of the blue effectively asking us to pay to do the same or stay in a dying guild. One by one they left and I only stayed out of a nostalgic loyalty, but it was deeply depressing to log on, do your thing, and only see 1 or 2 active members had played in the past couple days. Eventually had to leave as it simply got me down too much to remember the good times. But it sure sucked!
Raiding is trash now. 8+ versions of the same item, people arguing over "BiS" upgrades, PUG groups being super elitist on who they invite then rage quitting when one thing goes wrong, raid leaders in guild thinking that flasks and potions actually make a massive difference to the raid. The game is shit now compared to Vanilla/TBC. Everything is a grind and there's even less of an end goal than there ever has been.
I'm sure this kind of thing happened everywhere and it's actually the leadership of such guilds that get into that kind of situation that can make the guild rise up stronger or let it crumble. Had the same thing happening right around the beginning. Lots of people leaving before we even really started progressing on Mythic NH which left us in a position to not be able to recruit anyone rlly decent until we got some bosses down. Evantually we perservered and found the right guys to get back on track with some delay. I know the feeling you had, everything crumbling down beside you, people you thought you could rely on just vanishing and seemingly everything you do is for nothing. Because you think it'll just happen again, someone we need will leave anyway. So what's the point? But you took it upon you to save a good guild and succeeded and for that you have gained a great feeling of accomplishment and even more respect from the raiding community. More so from officers all around the world that faced/facing the same problem. It is possible to get out of the cycle of feeling defeated. And Asmongold is one of the many that did. Kudos to you.
why am i watching this? I havent played wow in 11 years, lol
Gearz86 haha I've literally just said the same thing
Same
I havnt played live in years.... I play on warmane Leo to 12% last night! We raid twice a week. Casual guild but good players
I have literally never played wow. why have I been watching asmongold videos for 2 weeks now.
I miss it, haven't played since I got Max lvl in panda land doing dailies and timeless isle stuff. Everyone is saying WoW is pretty much dead now so idk if I should come back
I was a guild leader in FFXI and we had multiple times that the guild was near death but me and another officer never gave up and kept pushing hard recruiting. Guild made it back up everytime. I mean, it was a lot of work but also felt really great we could bring everyone together.
IT'S JUST A GAME WHY YOU HAFF TO BE MAD?
ITS ONLY!!!!GAME!!!!!.........
why play a game its only a game why beat it when u can watch a video ?
did you play this game before you watched the video?

I'm the raid leader for our guild and your story is identical to the end of WoD for us with Mythic Archimonde. Such a stressful time, 3 months of work, 625 wipes, background drama to just contain until he was dead, not changing the team, not resetting the instance, it was archi or nothing. And we did it.
It was a huge accomplishment for us and after that everyone was happy, however all those background things I had bounced around and persuaded everyone to stay and be happy and get along.....they came back. It wasn't until half way through EN mythic, but basically what was on the verge of happening during archimonde happened then, only this time I let it and got rid of the people causing the issues, because I didn't really care a lot about EN mythic, certainly not anywhere near as much as archi mythic.Because we were on a dead server, it was then impossible to recruit, so we basically didn't go further than 3/7m EN for a good 2-3 months while struggling to recruit. We eventually gave in and moved to a new server about 1 month ago and were able to recruit for those we lost and the guild is now in a really good place. We went back and got 7/7 EN m and 2/3 ToV m and within a few weeks went 4/10 NH mythic, currently working on Spellblade.I can relate to your story a lot and understand 100% what it felt like for you. Just a word of warning that you may not be totally out of the woods yet, give it until about quarter of the way into ToS mythic when you hit the first hard boss and see if the problems and the people that cause the problems come back, make the decision to sort it out quickly or it will wreck your ToS progression.
I don't even have a guild! living the pug life :D nobody will recruit me cuz im trash. but i know im trash, so im slightly less trash. although im glad your guild didn't fall apart.
drama sucks
ur cute

Mar Car ur cute
Everyone is cute to someone else.

What realm you on
Kinda obvious ur 12
For somebody that was in a guild that fell apart in WOD, I am glad that you was able to stay together. I was brought to this game by some friends from another game so this was way different for me. I am currently doing Legion by myself and it is a pain considering I have only been playing a year and I am still learning. Hope you all can always work things out.
I was half expecting a " Remember, YOU NEVER STOP GOING BIG DICK" at the end.
Back in cata, mists and dreanor, my guild was in the top 10-5 of my server for both horde and alliance. When EN, ToV and NH came out we dropped around 5-10 core members of our guild, mostly due to work and stress, so we went from a mythic raiding guild to a heroic raiding guild and we are now within maybe the top 50 if we were to check. it is hard recruiting and making new officers out of untested and possibly bad choices, but if you stick to it you can help make your guild, not what it was but what it has to become , to make what you need to do possible.
TL:DR he thought he was entitled to clearing mythic nighthold faster than even the best guilds in the world and was going to quit raiding after a 100 wipes on guldan.. aka BABYRAGE
If my work situation changes I had thought about joining a serious raiding guild again. I'm on second shift right now so 99% of such raiding guilds have times that I would be at work (in the US anyway). I was part of one back in Wrath and Cata and loved it. Just before the first big patch into cata our guild leader and his wife (two of our best raiders) started having marriage problems and the guild basically disbanded. I graduated college just a month or two later and my schedule hasn't allowed such raiding since.
I was happy to hear you were able to keep it going Asmongold, Love listening to your stories. I wish all the best for you guys. If I get back into the scene I will keep you guys in mind.
In the comment section you can see the people with 10/10HC PUG clears calling him a man-child and a pussy and actual mythic-raid leaders that relate to the struggle of progressing in the hardest content of the game.
*cries in 4/10M*
Tiago Rodrigues You should see what they call you.
As a raid leader and guild master myself in Legion i can understand your feelings in this one. NH has been a struggle both mentally and mechanically. a couple of bosses pushed our guild almost to breaking point at times but thankfully i have been blessed with a team of great people who have shown time and again they are willing to push against the struggle and keep going. now having gotten Gul'dan down I am looking forward to ToS but i really hope that blizzard takes note here and not repeat the mistakes of NH. I hope they see the personal demand that the design of the raid has required of their player base. Thank you for sharing your story its good to know that it wasnt just us.... also. fuck Botanist :D
video starts at 7:23
Pink Dawg of Doom actually it starts at 0:00 you dumb pile of pink shit

Love you man. Been here since the beginning. Stay strong bud!
This tier sucked, to put it simply. I don't think any one raid caused so much burnout and killed or nearly killed such an obscene number of guilds since Ulduar.
Good job hanging in there, man.
raids should be this hard, it's just that they need to have one difficulty. So that those who actually put in literally months to clear the raid actually have something.. like the good gear (since heroic can easily drop mythic level gear)
It's not the raid, it's the systems surrounding the raid i.e. legendaries, AP etc. Nighthold itself was tuned fine. If you found it too hard then maybe git gud? Most ppl complaining are prolly the ones that had mythic EN handed to them on a silver platter and then realized that's not how it normally is
Like the previous comment said, it wasn't the RAID at all that killed guilds.... it's the fucking system. AP farm (Not a problem in 7.2 anymore, but it was.) and Legendary RNG. If you want to talk about something that caused massive burnout, try HFC in WoD.
A lot of raids in early WoW had this effect. Hell, nearly every raid in Vanilla, BC, and Wrath had this effect. It wasn't the raid itself, it was the absurd grind. Grinding for months for your BiS legos, getting all 54 traits on your weapon. That's what burned people out. You can only run Maw in M+ so many times before it starts to wear you down. That grind, on top of the bosses being pretty overtuned (Star Augur was openly admitted to being tuned for 54 traits) is the reason there was burnout. The raid itself was not that bad. The absolutely absurd grind was.
I only played this game for leveling alts until now. What was the problem with AP and how is it fixed now? just curious as to what the problem actually was
love the story man. i found myself reflecting on the last several months myself recently. so many faces gone now who have been there for years.
this doesnt even sound fun anymore....?
I feel ya man, been the GM for 7-8 years. It's a lot of stress, work, and balancing having fun while also trying to enjoy the game. Good job, keep up the good work. The work is appreciated even if you don't get the pat on the back at the end of the night.

I find this experience nearly poetic, despite its eccentricity to many 'normal people.'
This guild's name truly stood the test of its own testament, where despite drastic and massive power shifts and, as he said, nearly 75% of his guild leaving, the guild remains strong. They've toppled Mythic Gul'dan, which is no mere accolade, and their achievements stand testament to the guild's name: Indestructible.
He came full circle in this story. From great power with no responsibility, he ascended to greater power with immense responsibility, and he found it all the more rewarding. What he did to keep his guild intact is unsurprising in terms of what I've seen throughout guilds I've been a part of. He didn't just admit to it: he confessed to it. He came to terms with his tricks and deceptions: surely we've done the same with some lesser things in our lives.
Well done, Asmongold. I've never quite felt proud for a prominent gamer's accomplishments. First time for everything!
You brought a bunch of uncoordinated arguing spergs into the hardest instance out at the moment and killed the most recent mythic raid boss, calm down dude.
3/10 "mythic raider" spotted
The point is, they still killed it.
Your comments still there, I just have no intentions feeding the spergs.
not everything is about kill the bosses man..u can clear the raid but if u dont enjoy it / if u are not clearing it with people you want to.. whats the point u know..
Right now there's no point in doing mythic anyway, just wanted to get the point across that he doesnt need to be so hard on himself and there really ain't alot of people out that can do this type of content around.
Glad to see a video like this in this raid tier. Light bless.
Lol, 100 wipes almost ruined the guild? No one these days can handle a wipe, it took us over 100 wipes to do mythic dragons back when, let's not get started on the Eye. We just spent weeks on it and eventually got it
We had 157 wipes on Mythic Imonar lol. Just takes a lot of work but its fun
It's like losing the friends you've known for some time. I know the feeling when i stopped playing my first private server and stop being in touch with all those good people.
does anyone hate this guy? and if so why?
Reddeath 111 anyone who hates this guy yet takes time out to come to his channel and click on this video is a stupid idiot that clearly lacks a life
dont hate him but wouldnt want him as a GM
I don't hate him. His UI on the other hand.... (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Reddeath 111 of course. He's an asswipe it's obvious
Was a GM for over 5 years and being a guild leader is extremely rewarding but at the same time extremely frustrating. At the peak of the guild it was amazing, but after we fell apart on EN I realized it just not anything I really can committee too anymore, specially getting officers that help with the guild was extremely hard. People want the power without the responsibility.
sounds like Indestructible got destroyed :^)
Inspiring story, and grats to you for it working out. I myself don't play WoW anymore but I enjoy your videos on occasion. But what makes me sure I made the right decision not to play anymore is the "we're only a 3 night a week raid guild" and that's considered "casual". 3 nights is a *lot* and I just can't commit that time, so I wholly sympathize with those officers who left the guild in the first place.
WoW is a chore, and honestly not really fun. Legion's RNG was just not enjoyable, and "progression" was so screwed up with the forging system that it just made everything not fun.
Anyway, sorry to get sidetracked. Point is, kudos to y'all for keeping it together and grats on your mythic clear.
Your hat makes me embarrassed for you.
Jordan Jones Your face makes me embarrassed for you.
your metro skinny denim makes every homogenized dillrod feel safely 'stylish' at whatever 'downtown' bar you pretend you didn't gentrify.
Eddy Spagetti Your ignorance makes me embarrassed for you.
That was a great story, man. I enjoy watching your streams ( even though they are on in the middle of the night here in Europe. ) You always struck me as someone who was firm but fair in terms of leadership style. Props for persisting in the face of all the adversary.
Only thing I can suggest if you haven't already is take a short break, you deserve it!
Bs lol u won't quit raiding
As my first expansion as a GM... i can definitely relate to a lot of the struggles you went through. Glad some good came of it. Keep up the good work!
i was on vacation and when i came home my whole guild had transfered server, everyone had shared on 12mil gold to pay for transfers, and here i sit left out
Could you make a video of how best to deal with slackers in your raid? Like we are trying to be strict about players turning up with lesser gems/enchants, turning up late, or being late after the raid break (etc), we tell them not to do it again and often get ignored. Based on a semi-hardcore progress guild, I love you videos and often watch your guild management ones....would be good to hear your thoughts on how best to deal with them.
Good job dude, as someone who has stepped back from hardcore raiding, and being a GM/Raid Leader, I'm really glad I still find enjoyment raiding casually(Heroic and SOME Mythic), and I would NOT like to be in charge in a Tier such as this.
Part of your question was "... not quite sure how to you should feel about this?". The quick answer is proud. Taking world ranks, loot and cutting edge out of the picture. You've provided a home for the people you've led. Many gamers don't live the lives of the people they subscribe to. They live normal lives that may not have much achievement or recognition. Three nights a week your guild can log in, work hard and gain a "sense" of that achievement they are lacking. Loot, progress recognition and in-game achievements are just a reward for the time we gamble. One day the WoW servers will shut down and all this time we spend concerned about the surface rewards will mean nothing. Though the lessons learned about hard work and conviction will ring true for a life time. Possibly even passed down to their children without knowing they came from a video game. So cheers to you and keep being a leader.
Speaking as a classic raider. it happens a lot. a lot of serious guilds ive been in/spoken too over the time no longer exist. You did well and congratz for smashing out and not giving up. I quit raiding for a long time after bc n wrath raids destroying my guilds
Had the same problem with the guild I was playing with back when I was raiding however for us it all fell apart so it's really uplifting to hear that you made it somehow. Fight on.
I don't know how similar this is, but its definitely as stressful.
I've been leading my current guild since open beta. Right after we killed mythic Garrosh, during the MoP expansion, I had our raid leader of about year, tell me that if I didn't give him leadership of my guild (i was leader for 9 years at that point), he was going to leave the guild with a predetermined group of people that he had already talked to from within the guild. I politely told him that there was no chance in hell that this would happen and wished him luck. He left the guild with 16 other members on the spot.
We were left with myself and the core of the guild which consisted of 7 players. Fast forward 3 weeks later, and I recruited another 20 players, recleared and retaught how to do our strategies in Mythic Siege of Orgrimmar and promptly killed Mythic Garrosh for a second time. That kill definitely felt better than our first kill.
I'm glad to see Indestructable around still, i quit the guild in 2013 cause irl was getting really difficult, just hearing you everyone else not playing anymore you being the sole survior is sad, but great at the same time, stay strong and have Faith and keep it indestructable. @Asmongold
This is a really good video and story. I enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing dude. Also: glad it worked out and gz with the Gul'dan kill!
I found an odd parallel between my guild raiding days and Deadliest Catch. In the early season, you'd see a crew having a bad time, fishing would be lousy, and everyone was at each other's throats. Then things would pickup, they'd start hauling in mountains of crab, and everyone would be all smiles, hugs, and apologies. You'd see the EXACT same scenario play out trying to progress through a raid. Everyone hates each other when they're lying on the floor waiting for rez. Once that last boss is down, though, it's one big happy family again.
So, yeah, guild drama = reality television. Let that sink in for a bit, maybe take a long shower.
I got pushed into a raid leader position once in a guild unable to ever clear gorefiend mythic. It's the only job that ever made me rage, between all the personal toddler drama everyone expects you to fix and people just standing in the first barrage on fel reaver.... I went nuts.
Since the start of NH progression theres only 4/20 of us still in the guild that formed the guild. It is absolutly INSANE the turn over this one raid gave so many guilds. We're currently working on Guldan. Grats on the kill.
