Yeah, the term "player agency" is very much open to interpretation. With this concept, and many more regarding role-playing games, there must be an understanding of the kind of game you'll be playing and everyone needs to be on the same page.
I don't know about role-playing games for people in crisis. As a distraction maybe, but I think there's more value in playing role-playing games before a crisis. My friend is in a fairly high position in law enforcement. He has often praised his RPG experience when dealing with problems. I have another friend who is a commander in the military. He just played a role-playing scenario where he played as a terrorist. The ability to imagine a scenario, and possible changes to a scenario is invaluable.
really? I'm always heard "player agency" to mean the players having the abolity to affect the story with their choices. I never thought it means they necessarily suceed or survive
I could netter explain it as “get my way." A lot of the “agency” complaints I’ve seen are about GMs setting up a world with a certain range of inhabitants and then players get upset their favorite isn’t in the list. Agency is what’s claimed is being violated. And, really is a “me” problem. Both the term and the concept are great and I need to deal.
I'd love to see you share thoughts on Icons Assembled Edition. I also like Tiny Supers but feel it's too light, and Sentinel Comics RPG but find it's a bit too heavy.
I never heard anybody use player agency in that manner, probably because I do not play D&D and the like, but run more horror games where the characters quite often suffer horrible fates. And well, I also like GM-less games, thus systems that empower the players to do these horrible things to their own characters!

True
Poor Gary! I had a blast with Into the Odd, thank you!
Alas, poor Gary. We’re going to have to bring him back for other systems.

Hmm…it does allow folks to think.

That’s what it’s supposed to mean. I’ve just encountered some folks who didn’t quite take it that way.

That's funny, that was the subject of k.r. king and Daniel Hortons podcast this week, Monsters and Treasure podcast
Nice. And…I kinda steer into the agency skid later in the video..
Awesome shelf you got there!
How is crown and skull?
It is so far down on the queue I haven’t even looked inside yet!
It mocks me.
@ hahaha 😂 I saw Bob World Builders video on it and it piqued my interest! I am a big fan of good quality roll tables and there was some gold in there
And now it mocks me louder…

I have not heard of that one. Probably not this go round but.. can you share a link?
Player agency means players can chose where to die but not how
Well, sometimes how.
I picked up Heroes of Cerilla because of your review. I haven't received it yet though.
I hope to enjoy it! Did you get the PDF?

I am realizing I’d have have better stated it as “always get their way.”
Can I get a members only jacket ?
If you’re buying!
@ you don’t give them out when people become members?
I’d have to charge a lot more.
are they REALLY random though? hmmmmmmm
