  • #Dikili is located on the #Aegean #Sea coast and opposite #Midilli #island. Its neighboring districts include #Bergama in the east, the Aegean Sea in the south and west, and #Ayvalık district of #Balıkesir in the north. It is also adjacent to #Greece's Lesbos Island, 18 miles away in the Aegean Sea to the west.
Its distance to the city center #Izmir is 120 km, its surface area is 541 km2, and its population is 48 thousand.
The crater lakes and caves in #merdivenli and #Denizköy and the forests based on the Madra Stream are among the natural riches of the district.
85% of the population living in the District Center and Villages is engaged in agriculture. The other population consists of small tradesmen, craftsmen, merchants and the service class.
The economy in the district is mainly based on agriculture. Tobacco, cotton, olive production and greenhouse cultivation are carried out. Dikili Port is an important source of income for the district in terms of tourism. Its clean beaches and rich thermal resources are important for domestic and foreign tourism.
High earnings from agricultural inputs and other sectors increase the purchasing power of the people and raise the social level.
Housing in the district is not a major problem. Due to its touristic nature, there is a temporary housing problem during the summer months. In addition, the amount of residences that are used only in the summer months and are called summer houses by the public is constantly increasing due to the touristic nature of the district.
In the district, where the literacy rate is high, the social life of the people in their personal and social relations is above a certain level.
In Dikili Port, which was completed in 2000 with a length of 135 meters and a depth of 8.5 meters, 469,000 tons of loading and unloading were carried out in 2006, and a total of 11681 passengers and 187 ships were served. This port serves not only Dikili but also the region.
The livelihood of the people in rural areas is generally based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and fishing is important in villages near the sea.
In the district's agricultural lands, mainly olives, field crops, forage crops, vegetables, fruits and citrus fruits are used as vineyards.
Small cattle breeding is especially common in the district. Cattle, sheep and lambs, hair goats, kids, Saanen Goats, beekeeping and poultry are raised in the district.
    history
According to the first archaeological information, Dikili was founded in B.C. It has an extensive history dating back to 4000-5000 BC. As a result of the excavations carried out in Ağırtepe and Kaletepe, one of the first settlements, it was stated that this region where the Achaeans lived was called Aterneus. It has been understood from archaeological excavations that the Aoil people had cities and sites such as Aterneus, Pytani, Astria and Teutronia on the Dikili lands.
In the early ages, Lydians, Persians, Phrygians and Mysians, later Romans and Pergamonians; In the Middle Ages, it came under the domination of the Eastern Roman, Genoa, Seljuk and Ottoman Empires. Famous names such as Aristotle, Hermos, August and Alexander were found in the historical cities and sites in the Dikili region from time to time.
The history of New Dikili started with Bergamalı Karaosmanoğlu establishing a farm in Dikili and growing plant crops here. The name, which was previously known as Dikmelik, later became Dikili.
Karaosmanoğlu also established a farm next to today's Marketplace, and gathered the people who lived on animal husbandry in the region here, turning it into a small village.
After the Seljuks captured the region, Dikili remained under Turkish and Ottoman rule for a long time, and was occupied by the Greeks between 1919 and 1922. It was liberated from enemy occupation on September 14, 1922.
While Dikili was a village of Bergama in 1860, it was separated from Bergama in 1928 and became a district of Izmir Province.
    Ancient Cities
With its deep blue sea, long beach, lands where green and blue are intertwined, Dikili lands, where human beings will long to live, have hosted many civilizations from prehistoric times to the present day. In ancient times, various cities belonging to some civilizations were established in and around Dikili. The most developed of these cities is Atarneus.
    ARISTOTLE
Aristotle, who is considered the greatest genius of classical philosophy, wrote some of his important works, which are the basis of philosophy, about 2400 years ago in Atarneus, also known today as Aristotle Hill.
Aristotle, who was taken from his hometown of Thrace-Stagyre by his family friend Proxen and brought to Atarneus in 367 BC, married Pythias, the niece of King Hermias of Atarneus, and gave lectures here.
After King Hermias fell from power, Aristotle was invited to the Macedonian Palace to be Alexander's private tutor, and later separated from Atarneus.
