Topsham Level Crossing

Saturday August 4 2012 at 12.33. The 12.18 Exeter St Davids to Exmouth (12.50) train and the 12.23 Exmouth to Exeter St Davids (12.54) trains. This is 4.5 miles south from Exeter level crossing at St Davids. There is a 30 minute service and the line from here to Exmouth is single track. If southbound trains were timed to arrive one minute after northbound trains that would reduce traffic delays at the crossing by a quarter. Most trains go backwards and forwards along the 11 mile journey but some travel 4 times further to Barnstable. Unusually different types of trains operate the service. One of these two has large windows and mainly glass doors.
