Mine isn't knocking nearly as loud, but hearing how silent yours is after your sanding fix makes me realize mine has the same issue. Appreciate you showing the comparison and fix!
I’ve got an older Endura 30, it’s probably close to 20 years old now. I know I got it second hand in 2010, and have ran it every single year since! It’s been a GREAT trolling motor! Now I did have to replace the speed potentiometer last fall because it was just plain worn out, and the trim/tilt lever because I broke it. But the motor itself is perfect and still runs great! I put a Kippawa prop on it and use it to push my little 11’ fiberglass duck hunting boat for long runs. Often up to a mile. So LOTS of run time! I just hope these newer ones are as good as my old one!
I used this motor for several years it fell off in crazy waves i went across a calm big lake and fished all evening and had a long way to go back and she made it back after falling in and fishing it out while still on in the choopiest of water. I thought we all were going down. It made it home after
Brushless motors are better at the slowest speed. You never have to change the brushes. JB has the best trolling motor/Jon boat episode. I skipped right over electrics to my Tomking TK144FC four cycle air cooled. I substituted light clutch springs to troll and it burns 7 Oz of gas an hour, trolling. A hand finish will help the aluminum prop. Many Jon boats put the trolling motor on the bow.
I actually have 8 minn Kota enduros. 7 are 40# trust and 1 is a 30#. All bought at our local Walmarts and several were on sale. Mine are all the earlier models without the optimizer. All of them were in perfect shape. I have hooked them up in ways not recommended. So glad they are not brushless design.
I used a 24V 1200W Haswing Protruar 3.0G yesterday on my 17ft. Sea Lance catamaran. I traveled 10 miles at an average speed of 7mph (wide open throttle) in a 1 foot chop with 5mph wind and 3 mph current consuming under 1600Wh total from my 24V 50Ah LiFePo batteries. Motor cost: $499 from Amazon.
We have a 62lb thrust Newport. I noticed at full power for a period of time the motor shuts off. I thought maybe it was my kid operating it wrong or a bad plug connecter I made. I never thought of it overheating until you mentioned it.
I found one of these left out in the grass in a wilderness area. Never heard from an owner. It was nearly brand new. It works great and hauls butt on speed 5, its the same speed as my 55lb. (because of less torque?)
I was just on that creek a few weeks ago. Stopped for fuel at the marina just across the water. Maybe one day I'll run into ya out there! Party at dobbins maybe.
Brushless motors are more electrically efficient, and a bit more quiet. If you're going to use that motor in brackish water, put a sacrificial anode on it or electrolysis will eat the case/skeg. They're available at marine supply houses; just drill a hole through the skeg and mount it to protect the motor. For whatever it's worth, I've had Minn Kota motors since 1978, they are great and the customer service has be excellent.
NV kayak series have given me 2 solid years of heavy use on average until they need repair or replacement. I stick with them because I have several for parts.
I bought a Min Kota 50 lb thrust for a 1300lb boat. The damn thing kept blowing the breaker if it was fighting even the slightest breeze. I had it hooked up right I made sure but it wouldn't stay running and kept blowing the 60 amp breaker. Gave it away when I sold my old boat.
At least years ago, the speed controller is cheaper trolling motors was the problem. They would use as many amps on low as they did on high. The pricer ones used a better, more efficient speed controller. Is that still the case now? I know electronics have got cheaper so maybe not. But to me, efficiency is much more important than speed on a trolling motor. I want to get a full day in an back to the dock on one battery more than I want to troll a half mile an hour faster.
I have the 50 pound thrust model from MinKota. It is quiet and pushes the boat along just fine. I have a 14 foot Springbok for fishing. The only thing that I don’t like about it is that when trying to dock the boat and when you shut the motor thrust off there is no steering as there is a minimal skeg.
The one I had worked fine but also had some vibration and noise. After about a year I hit some rocks and had to get a replacement prop. It still has some noise but the vibration went away.
Thanks for your review. I recently purchased the same motor and had the same problem that was also resolved(?) with sandpaper. Pretty discouraging. FYI: I'm using mine on a 14 ft Hornbeck pack canoe that weighs 25 lbs. I also have a 24lb Watersnake which propels the canoe at 4.4 mph drawing about 18amps. The Minn Kota almost matches that speed, 4.2mph, but draws 25 amps in the process. Perhaps the prop is still rubbing? Why did I get the Minn Kota? I wanted a weedless prop which unfortunately is not offered with the 24lb Watersnake. I've ran my Watersnake for an hour straight at top speed with no problems.
25 cents difference between a 30lb minn kota and a newport 36lb trolling motor and think the newport is rated for saltwater use....newport has recently dominated in basic trolling motors , kayak motors and electric outboard motors
$99 for the made up this week name motors that also came off the same line as the Kota...or last year's run after Kota demanded a design modification. The generic short lived name is sometimes made of offlots. Lots with more than say 15% visual errors...whole lot is auctioned off for nearly nothing...then sold on Temu, Wish, Ali, eBay or Amz....till they're out of stock. Often the profit is in the shipping fee. If you're willing to take it apart, fix the casting or wiring mistakes, and put it back together...you might get the same motor. Sucks when the name brand box has some miscast parts or untrimmed flashing like this prop.

Oh geez - is this a common problem?
@@WayneTheBoatGuy I have the same motor I got in July and I didn’t have the knocking issue so I don’t know if it’s a common issue
Another awesome video. Thanks for a clearer picture.
Just getting into boating & this is very helpful! I picked up a 12 ft vhull jon boat

Always get what you pay for. Seems ok do, for the money 😉
And you have a great channel. Boatlife is great, from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thanks 👍

That's quite fast - a catamaran hull seems to do better than a planing hull boat
The Amazon prime plane flying over the Walmart in that clip was funny since you just mentioned them a minute before

Nice find! Yeah on a small boat the 55 seem to push the same speed, I have a video where I compared them - ua-cam.com/video/u0XQytm-YLw/v-deo.html

Ooo - I like the anode idea!
the tiller handle always goes out on these first, your best bet is turning the speed slowly 1-2-3-4-5 instead of 1-4 or 1-5
Good to know!

Yeah I find I need to switch it on and off constantly at the boat ramp - but much better than my 2.5 gas that has no neutral.

Wow that's discouraging to hear you had the same problem! That's very interesting about the Watersnake drawing less current and going faster.
good segment Wayne. didn't you have the same problem about a month or so ago on another trolling motor? thanks for sharing and troubleshooting.
The other video from a month ago was about this motor.
This was the motor from the video last month!
I have a 55 thrust from Dunams, how do you keep the battery charged?
I show my main 12 volt battery charger I use in this video.
@WayneTheBoatGuy okay, yeah i thaught that was a charger, where did you purchase that?
@@johnwiegers3502 I think I bought it on Facebook Marketplace. The newer versions look different.
How much does it cost?
I think this was $136 before tax in my local WalMart
Wait till the throttle switch fries ive replaced a lot of them at $25 a pop
I've been using these in saltwater for years, just rinse them off in freshwater when you are through.
Well I have 2 boats and 2 canoes and shore fishing is more convenient

Say what you want ! They beat the hell out of a paddle !
I use one like this often !
Seems a certain type person has problems !
No matter what !
I just think a name brand item needs to do better. You are paying a premium for what you are getting!
Minn kota the cheapest? I doubt it 😂
Cheapest I could find in stores near me!
