I love Cascarones. I never knew what they were until i was 16 and moved to Texas. I friend invited me over to her house to show me a Mexican Easter lol. It was great and now i make these every year :)
@happyauershow - I've been doing it for years. It's always messy. But fun for the kids. I use latex gloves because that dye is hard to get off the fingertips. Also, another suggestion for the glue. Instead of purchasing glue, we make a paste with flour and water. You can use any kind of tissue including colored napkins cut into squares or circles.
Some of the comments on this are right, but when I ask (non-Mex-Hispanic) people, if their cascarones are ready, I realize some people have absolutely "no concept." Though remedial, this video covers it all. And yes, anyone under the age of 6 always cry the first time....This is the perfect video for your peeps that you have difficulty explaining things to.
a couple helpful hints for you guys: 1. i thought its kinda obvious not to do those inside the house. we always do them outside, right after hiding and finding them. 2. you can also use tissue paper cut into small squares as a top. 3. to make the hole, you can also tap the top of the egg into a sharp corner (like the counter) and simply peel back, thats what i always do. have fun guys ;)
Hi everyone! Here in Mexico use this eggs in the month of september and december, are so old, and also can be filled with flour!, and make heavy joking 3 :- )

The reason for no glitter was cuz ur gonna be breaking them on each others heads so it's not safe it can run down to the eye :\ she didn't really mention that but the demonstration with the kids said it all!
Not once does she mention the source of the tradition, nor the word, "cascarones." Without having a clue to the meaning, you can see how the kids think this is just another way to bonk each other on the head. Unfortunate.

At 7:38 You can see that your background is fake. There is something sticking out from behind the window.
