- One of Graeme’s best ever fishing trips! He goes from zero to hero! GP produces an episode that is one of the best decisions he has ever made in his life. He started on one new fishery but soon got the vibes that it was unlikely to produce anything. His gut feeling was to lose the cost of the day ticket, cut his losses and race over an hour to another lake where the fish might be biting. It proved to be an epic move that took him from ZERO to HERO almost immediately, giving him one of the best short fishing trips he has ever experienced. If you want BIG FISH then there is no shortage of rod bending action as our man utilises the most complicated baits in the world...a few slices of bread and a bag of supermarket sweetcorn. It doesn't get any easier..and more to the point some of the takes are explosive, right-under-the-rod-top takes that you will see on camera. At one stage he even hides himself in a hedge! I had one session like that and my best carp was 18.01lb took out 20 carp in 5 hours but apart from the one big one I had no more doubles. Cut down sweetcorn never heard of it until I watched this. Margin fishing was always my favourite method. My wife passed away Friday Evening (No sympathy needed, she's at peace now). Could not get to sleep so I knew Graeme would be posting a video and after tossing and turning got up at 1.00am to watch it. Something about these videos that is relaxing especially as Graeme does all the hard work. Thank you for posting.

Two great lessons there Graeme. Use your legs and get away from the crowds and you don’t need to cast to the horizon with 3lb test curve rods to catch good fish. It applies to the rivers too.
I watch the carp lads where I go and they are dressed head to toe in camo gear, with 82 flavours of bait, 3 rods with 20lb line and all the bells and flashing lights, and catch 1 fish in 8 hours. Graeme again proves it’s all nonsense. Brilliant video 👍

Been trimming sweetcorn for 25 years but you don't need to cut the bait in half unless the fishing is really hard. Just cut a thin slither off the edge - enough to expose the inner - revert back to whole corn when they are feeding well. Feed damp micro pellets and less corn this will keep them on the bottom. Great video as usual.

I think you might need to take a bigger net next time Graeme 😆 excellent fishing as always! I always favour freelining bread or corn at pressured lakes and especially in the margins. My dad taught me that 30 odd years ago and it still works even now. Saved a few quid on boilies that’s for sure 😊

Henfolds is lovely the main lake fishes well by the island during the summer, loads of crusians and gudgeon. Lots of small koi in the ponds
I used to squeeze sweetcorn grains to burst the tough outer skin, just lets out more attractive juices. Sometimes a smaller inner kernal / shoot, bright yellow and softer would pop out. I found those especially good bait for attracting a bite from finicky feeding fish. I have fished a place that is under an airport flight path, unburnt kerosene can be seen on the surface and at times smelt / tasted. That oily surface scum was always present as it can be from the feathers of waterfowl too.

I love the fact that you use home made, and basic tackle. Rods that have caught thousands of fish, seen hundreds of venues, and are probably older than most of us watching being able to trim fish a few oz shy of 20lb!

I used to fish those first ponds quite a lot hard to fish and lots of under water snags and fallen trees could be good with better pond management
Perhaps a bigger landing net would make it a bit easier ! However, very well done Graeme, you've cracked it again.
As an angler one can't help but wonder what's in those ponds that you first visited. Almost throws a challenge at you . Another great video as always!

Curry was not as hot as the welcome i got from the wife for being late.....trouble is I've used the "fish didn't bite till last thing" for the last 30 years !!... but this time it was true. A good sesh on the flatties would be good,its easy fishing,no dramas ,just need to find the spot.

I have a feeling damaged mouths are caused when they are maybe 2/3lbs,any damage is then carried right through the years. Just my opinion,anyone else out there have theories ?

graeme brill fishing just off pallet , what a fishery in winter as well , but if you loook back at one of your vids youll see you have fished that swim before and same tactics had loads of carp yes?
I generally always fish at least one rod in the margins as the depth drops off even a rod length out. I have never had so many doubles in such a short space of time though.

No,its a no name rod ,probably not commercial build I reckon. I paid £1 for it and just put a coupe of rings on it.I've had loads of fish on it.(That's the brown coloured rod if that's the one you mean)

I know very little about fishing. Is it that when you cut the corn in half that more scent is released?
Possibly some juice comes out,more that maybe nobody else is doing it so the fish take it better ?...Or just that it is smaller so I can convert more bites into hookups rather than miss them with a full size grain..?
Greame - what line were you using (what strength and what manufacturer / brand ) ? towards the end of the video, when you were catching all these doubles ? That line seemed to have worked really well , I'm looking at re-spooling some of my reels, and would appreciate the hint :)
Same I have used for 40 plus years. Maxima Chameleon. Usually about 6lbs. I top up with about 140 yards once a year as I have never hooked a British fish that rips off 300 yards of 6lb line !!..Generally only use the top 50 yards. Halfway through the season I then reverse it to put the unused section on the top.
