Flammie Well, when you take into consideration that the Snes uses sampled instruments it's not that hard to wrap your head around, but yeah. This is pretty impressive for what it is!
I know that, but the thing is, even if you sample the Genesis instruments, I expected them to sound more muffled since they have to be compressed to fit into the 64kb RAM limit. Maybe that'd be the case if you converted every Sonic 1 song and put them in a SNES ROM, this is just one song after all meaning there's much more memory available.
Yup! Also, thank you for being civil with your response. It's refreshing to speak to someone with a level head! I'd love to see Sonic 1 ported to the Snes. Since it runs slower and can't load things as fast I wonder how that'd be handled. Probably some console loophole most people would overlook or not know how to code.
It'd probably be very similar with more vibrant and expansive palettes plus bug fixes. The soundtrack would probably also use instrument samples rather than sampled synth to save on space.
hey, that sounds nice i've been trying to make an accurate SNES conversion of GHZ as well your version sounds a lot cleaner, although a few instruments are slightly off-tune
@@icepoplol What?? Doesn't have anything to do with that. The SNES' default sample rate is 32khz, which is higher than the Mega Drive's default sample rate. The highest sound that can be produced by the SNES is 128khz
Very good but you should try to use six channels at most as sound effects such as collecting a ring are also played on one of the eight channels at the same time as the music.
i guess it sounds a little less compressed but idk it sounds a little bit too offtune but that could be a problem about how it was composed. its incredible but not soo suprising that the snes can copy the synths used in the genesis
I don’t know how it was done but i guess those digitized samples were first converted into brr format, then only 1 wave cycle was used to fit withing the 64k, to reconstruct it’s original digitized waveform pretty much back, the snes has to fill in the missing gaps by following those dots in that single cycle waveform, then it has to repeat that waveform to simulate a long strain waveform in wich the snes then can manipulate by taking it in and out ,change it’s pitch etc,,, in order to approximate the original tune closely, however a voice speach cannot fit withing a single cycle waveform so more memory is needed for that, an easier approach would be to just record digitize the whole music track and stream it trough the snes using echo writes and avoid brr compression at all ,to sound even more closer to the original version.
This is a little off but it's grat. (Oh yeah, also I wasn't talking about you when I said this is a little off. I was talking about the SNES's soundchip.)
Mountain Mania Yes. These are sampled from the game's synthesis or at least an accurate remake of them. But the Super Nintendo uses sampled instruments anyways.
One thing that you should consider is that the song nearly exceeds 64 kb, which is the total amount of RAM the spc700 has, and that was a challenge of itself, I tell you!
Chemical Plant Zone can be loaded in SNES with no problem! You call Green Hill a challenge? THE SNES ITSELF CAN LOAD GENESIS MUSIC BY ITSELF! ua-cam.com/video/Au_CTlKU_7o/v-deo.html
@@dariuscox3576 nope, it is a pretty different soundchip. FM with FMs chips, and sample base with sample soundchips, for example, the SNES is better than the Amiga soundchip, (proper stereo unlike the nasty mono panned), YM2612 is better than the YM2413 (master system/mark III FM soundchip) more operator per channel (4OP x 6FM) a dcm channel, and the four SMS PSG channels. You can create any kind of realistic instruments, I have my own patches that I create on deflemask, and I have a pretty decent drum set. Maybe I should upload it some day... idk
@@dariuscox3576 of course that the SNES had some advantages like, put a whole sample chord in just one channel, unlike the genesis, were you must use at least 3 channels to get the full chord, no matter what kind of patch you use (except for the channel 3 mode, you can divide that channels into a 4 independent operators channels, with that you can get a chrord, but is very limited) Maybe if you adjust the tone of some operators per patch, you can get a chord too, but that depends of the algorithm too so... yeah one great super NES advantage over the other chips
This remix sucks; I made it 6 years ago now lol There is a better cover of this song for the snes under his sonic SNES album. Also idk about sticking to standard SNES samples; that's like telling someone to only use unmodified patches GEMS offered for American Genesis composers in the 90s.

Ah, the good old SPC chip. Its flexibility never wears thin.
With enough effort you can make it sound like the genesis. Aaah music chip remixes the earliest examples of rom hacks
It makes it sound amazing and adds an extra layer to it as well. Thats amazing.
Nice! Glad I'm not the only one that gave this a shot...!
You should give snesmod a shot, it's a lot more capable than SNES GSS.

False.... Fm synthesis is clearly metally and grainy. I used a yamaha dx7 for years and i can her fm synthesis on any recording now easily.

@Vikrinox Yes. SNES has ADSR envelopes.
no
@@oscwavcommentaccount (talking to Emerald)
The ASDR envelope on the orchestra hits at the beginning is a bit too aggressive but otherwise quite good. Keep it up!
why is it sounds like original?
beacuse snes using sampling
he just recorded samples of sega instruments in tracker
Well he did that but one waveform each except for the lead that keeps changing and the drums and a few other voices
@@kmoorother879 The SNES and Genesis soundchips are anything but similar
Yes, and knowing how little audio RAM the SNES' SPC700 has, even with BRR compression, it's impressive all the samples managed to fit.
If only the GBA could sound this good.

Marble Zone and Special Stage were ok though to be fair.
@@emersonjr4866 He's talking about the GBA port of Sonic 1, also know as "Sonic the Hedgehog GENESIS", which didn't have the best of soundtracks
It would've fooled me if not for the verse's backing arpeggio and counter melody strings sounding a bit different, and the mono mix.
That's actually a good point, why is this in mono? SNES could do stereo.
While the chorus at the beginning sounds more aggressive and heavier (due to louder square wave), well done conversion!
Wow. This is a feat.
The starting with that flute sound sounds so good

Snes doesn't have instruments. It uses samples from outside sources. This case being a Genesis.
