  • Santa Monica, May 9, 2024-The Santa Monica Police Department deployed its Mobile Command Center near the intersection of 3rd Street and Arizona Avenue to enhance safety measures and address narcotics-related crimes. Chief Ramon Batista oversaw the operation, which aimed to bolster patrols in the busy downtown district.
The Downtown Services Unit, focused on combating drug-related activities, conducted strategic enforcement efforts that led to six arrests for various drug offenses and three additional citations issued. Their work also extended to parking structures in the area, where Public Services Officers addressed multiple concerns. They issued 65 citations for violations of vehicle and municipal codes.
In addition to law enforcement actions, the presence of the Mobile Command Center enabled enhanced community engagement. Neighborhood Resource Officers were on hand to answer questions and provide safety information to residents and visitors.
The SMPD emphasizes that all individuals have a role in keeping the downtown area secure and clean. They encourage anyone witnessing suspicious or illegal activity to promptly report it to the SMPD non-emergency line at (310) 458-8491 or dial 911 if needed.
Chief Batista's deployment of the Mobile Command Center exemplifies a proactive approach to safeguarding Santa Monica. By leveraging advanced technology and strategic policing, the department continues to enhance safety for all who live, work, and visit the downtown area.
