Yea, the ages... are controversial. At the start of the books, Daenerys is 13, Robb is 14, Jon is 14, Sansa is 11, Arya is 9, Bran is 7, and Joffrey is 12. It's easy to forget how young they are because they decided to make the show characters a couple years older and the actors are even older than that. But yea, they're children.
