Interesting song. I can hear the influence of each Era of Journey as the song progresses. Honestly I was thinking that it didn't make sense musically when it went from slow ballad to more of an uptempo piece but, as it progresses, I started to get it. By the time the solos came I was jamming to it.

Honestly, I was a bit worried about the CD after hearing some of the releases, but this collection as a whole is classic Journey, IMHO. Really love this song, as well as so many others. First one in a while that I keep playing over and over again since I received my CD in the mail. (Yes, I still purchase CDs for certain artists new albums....)

Journey is my favorite band of all time and I will be forever grateful that Arnel Pineda brought these guys back from the brink in 07, even though no one can EVER replace Steve Perry, Arnel has done better than anyone could ever imagine. All that being said, in the few attempts to create new music since Arnel join in 07 nothing has really souded right. The old stuff always has been, and always will be great, but let me tell you something, even though Arnel Pineda has been the lead singer of Journey for 15 years, THIS IS HIS COMING OUT PARTY! They allowed Arnel to be Arnel and not a Steve Perry clone, and it shows! Best pure rock album in years! If you haven’t heard it your missing out! #10 on the track list (Holdin On) is probably the best pure rock song I've heard in 25 years. Taking me back to the 80's Baby!

I've listened to Journey for 40 plus years and followed Steve Perry's solo stuff. I swear those backing vocals sound like Steve. It's not wishful thinking or anything, because I'm not that concerned. I just thought so immediately.

Schon has mentioned this is merely a shortened version of the song. It's originaly 12 minutes long, unable to fully fit because a CD can't hold everything they wanted.

Props. To the newer journeys singer it's likes Steve perrys voice was dappolizerdganger or what ever the hec it even called , I'm not sure if its the first guy that took perrys place or not. Excellent song, great performances from the band.....but...the mix is brutal....kinda works for listening to on your phone, on a good sound system it gets completely buried in cavernous reverb...even more than any '80s Journey album...very messy. Seriously needs a new mix with fresh ears. Otherwise I love it...and I would never blame the band for questionable engineering/ production decisions.

Yes the mix is not good. Don’t want to assume, but it seems they went for a smaller budget for a mastering mix. Bands just don’t generate much income from recordings anymore. The majority is made on the road and licensing. I frankly hear better mixes from UA-cam videos of their last left of their tour. Arnel, is doing amazing now singing on pitch live. Neal says Arnel’s in ear mix is now good and it was not in the past. He also mentioned the front of the house mix has also helped.

If there is a problem, which i don't hear, it may be because this was recorded remotely. Arnel in Manila, Jonathan in FL and the rest in different parts in CA.
I really thought that was Steve perry, because was a beautiful voice just in the beginning, I wish this song was entirely like the beginning, the fast version after the ballad kill the song.

Really digging the new songs, not sure yet about the mix and mastering though. Seems muddy and the drums are somewhere down the street in a closet.

Nope Nerada is doing a great job on this! Steve Smith made his bed and choose to create drama and left Journey along with Ross Valory so it is what it is! I love Steve and Ross but people have to move on and follow their heart!
