- REX Regional Express (VH-ZLK) Saab 340B - with General Electric CT7-9B engines - start up and take off from Esperance Airport (YESP).
This aircraft first flew with American Eagle in January 1996.. It was acquired by REX in January 2008. REX Regional Express have a fleet of 52 Saab 340Bs and fly to regional airports throughout mainland Australia.
I love the sound of the Saab 340 they are truly the best sounding turboprop aircraft in the world.
I marshalled up in OAG standing in front of the Saab was pretty exhilarating, myself and the manager pulled an 11 minute turnaround from delayed SYD I don’t mind admitting I was on the verge of collapse after it 😂
This is an awesome clip of SAAB 340 with crystal clear image and high-fidelity turbine engine sound. Could I ask what camera did you use, with or without external microphone? Thanks,.
Lumix GH5, external dynamic microphone via a 2 channel mixer into camera, ATC via radio into other channel.
@@sivideoaviation Thanks mate for the information. That will help me a lot, as I am thinking of buying a camera for plane spotting.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend a GH5, (the GH series is going to be discontinued I think) but I would strongly advise getting a mirrorless camera.
Thanks a lot, and I really appreciate it. Would you mind letting me know the model of the external dynamic microphone and 2 channel mixer? I found yours are pretty satisfying.
Just a music shop balanced (XLR plug) band mic for $35-50, Behringer(?).
The aircraft in the backround looks like a Skippers Aviation F100
Well spotted, it is VH-XKN on a charter for the Esperance Bay Turf Club.
REX has a few more than 30 Saabs!
Yes you are right 52... corrected
One is a late build 340A, the remainder are 340B's.
OK
Sib what date and flight number was this?
March 12, 2017, it was afternoon. I don't do flight numbers, you can probably work it out if it is important.
sivideo aviation Cheers. Yeah had a look but it wasn't my sector.
OK, I did talk to one of the flight crew that day.
