I know a lot of people don't like Myne's dub voice but I gotta say I quite like it, sounds like it actually belongs to a 7 year old girl and not like most child characters voiced by adults where they obviously have voices way too deep for their age. It does sound off from time to time but overall this is one of the few times I prefer dub to sub.
That’s something I wish people would take into account. The character is a young child and unless you have an actual child actor the options for voicing them are either using a little kid voice (like here) or just saying “f it” and not doing anything to sound young.
Yeah I personally love her voice she sounds like a kid without that overly annoying high pitched voice so many shows do. Her VA does a good job and I can feel her excitement about books when it goes well and her disappointment and frustration when it doesn't.

There is something deeply upsetting about this sort of society. Even when the justice is aimed in the right direction, its not for the right reasons. Not for assaulting a little girl and general a*sholishness. I agree.. not even moments earlier from practically crying that she called out to Lutz to the palate cleansing of this entire scene just makes this anime such a goodie
It kind of surprises me that Ferdinand didn't crush him accidentally. I mean he was extremely mad at Shikza for hurting Myne and placing her in mortal danger. Ferdinand did already lose his cool once in the Light Novels and crushed Wilfried (didn't happen in the Anime yet for obvious reasons) so my question is why didn't the first crushing from Ferdinand not happen right here? He had a good reason to and even behaved in the right way to lose control of his mana.
@@sharkhaha9770 Wilfried is the first son of Sylvester the Archduke. Actually we will meet Sylvester in the new 3rd season/3rd part of the anime. Wilfried is very similar to his father. He has the same facial features and the same hair style. His behavior is also similar to his father's past behavior. He can't sit still, is hyperactive and doesn't really care what is said to him. Due to his messed up upbringing Wilfried hat a lot of issues and bad habits that cost him the guaranteed succession to the title of Aub Ehrenfest. It was actually so bad that Ferdinand requested that he was taken off the line of succession because of his incompetence which automatically made Rozemyne aka Myne the next in line to become Aub because unlike in our world where its almost always the oldest male child that succeeds his parents, in their world ones Mana capacity decides that. That's actually the reason why Sylvester as incompetent, lazy and unpredictable as he his became Aub instead of his older sister Georgine who was married off as a third wife to the Greater Duchy Ahrensbach. Anway Wilfried throughout most of the series stays a oblivious fool and an idiot when compared to Rozemyne, who in the eyes of many, is a saint, a beauty and a genius.
Nah, Ferdinand is a master of self-control. If he was wild enough to let a little pissant like Shikza/Shikikoza get him mad enough to start accidentally crushing people, he’d have never survived Veronica’s abuse back in the day.
@@Xenobears taking abuse from your stepmother who has higher standing in both society and family is completely different from insubordination of a subordinate Knight who hurt someone dear to you. The actual reason why Ferdinand didn't crush him stems from the Anime falsely portraiting the behavior of the characters. Karstedt was far more vocal in the novel than in the anime while Ferdinand while still enraged didn't cuss out Shikza like he did in the anime. He may have been more controlled but he was still mad as hell. Shikza getting crushed would've shown how much Ferdinand cares for Myne.
@@EUM_NEMESIS the abuse is why he had to master self-control. If he had allowed his emotions to run rampant and accidentally ended up crushing Veronica, she’d have used it as an excuse to have him killed or imprisoned and turned into a mana battery. Ferdinand is, at this point, the type of character to put rationality and the greater good ahead of emotion-it’s part of the reason why he goes out of his way to help Main (and he felt responsible for allowing the head priest/archbishop Bezewanst to antagonize her so much before trying to step in, so even though he’d deny it, he was a little emotion-driven). He doesn’t really start getting attached until after he uses the artifact to enter Main’s mind and see her memories of Japan. Up to that point, he’d been steeling himself to kill her if necessary for the good of the duchy if she had been an enemy agent. Main’s strong emotions really affected Ferdinand and he had never felt so horrible. After that, he’s still a strict mentor, but he does start softening a bit-going out of his way to create better tasting potions, proactively protecting Main, and really getting hacked off at his own second-favorite subordinate for playing games that put Main in danger during the abduction incident (he had the man killed-we learn this when he tells Karstadt that the subordinate climbed the golden staircase).
Shikikoza: She's a plebeian. Me: Flexing your muscles on a child, are you? Damn, how fucking brave you are... So by all means flex you muscles while you can. Oh wait, you cannot. Because you forgot that Ferdinand is also here.
Seriously. A grown-ass man bullying, insulting, and physically attacking a preteen girl, with whose safety he was charged by his superior officer. What a shining example of noble dignity and knightly honor. Piece of shit.
Makes sick how the nobles treat the poor/lower class like trash because they believe themselves better than them. Threatening and hurting someone like that just because they're poor is inhumane.
Well... That's how class system works. This is a mostly medieval type of world with rules in line with medieval times. The country Myne is in is a kingdom and the citizenry don't really elect their administration...
Its more than just because they’re poor, its because they dont have mana so their seen as just a resource. Its a super harsh society even to the nobles
As commoners generally don’t posess any significant amount of mana, most nobles don’t see them as anything more than stray dogs. In their eyes, it’s not inhumane, as they barely even consider them people to begin with. Not even noble children are considered people by society until their baptism, and some laynoble children are left for dead or reduced to servants if they lack too much mana and the family can’t afford to send them to the temple.

When I first saw this. I half expected Ferdinand to send forth a turbulent wind causing Shikza to flounder about while having an overly-dramatic mental breakdown by the sheer force of Ferdinand's accusation.
Rookie: I was ordered by a superior to not tell the truth Idiot: Yes, always obey your superiors. Priest: And whom present here is your superior? Idiot: The next scene was pretty good where she upstages him like his own mana was a drop in the ocean. A third season would be welcomed (some day maybe).
Wait what... they changed what Damuel said quite drastically. In the original he gave in to Shikikoza and said that when he was ordered to go away he did and thus did not see what happened. But here he outright confirms what Myne said thus Shikikoza's smug look and Myne's fear make no sense in context... I don't have an issue with the rest of the scene, but that one line for Damuel was a mistake in my opinion.
@@abyssaljoey7695 In a way I guess... but that still does not alleviate the issue of Shikikoza's reaction. In the book Damuel spilled the beans to Karstedt while Myne was still being cut out of the trombe, with neither Shikikoza nor Ferdinand hearing their conversation. Once they are kneeling in front of Ferdinand, Damuel keeps his quiet, thus it makes sense in the book for Shikikoza to be so confident and smug. But as I said here his mannerisms really contradict what he just heard from Damuel. To move Damuel's comment over to this scene would have required more than merely changing his line I think.
@@Norbert_Sattler It genunely depends on how good a person's hearing is, what direction they're facing (ear toward the sound, for example, vs at a right angle), and how much they are concentrating on their task. If you switch the concept "Magic Powers = Privilege" into "Money = Privilege", boom there you go. Our society ain't so much different than theirs really.
But they have a difference: you can make some money even if you have none at the moment. But you can't get more mana if you wasn't born with any. That's why it's almost impossible for commoner to become a noble.

Why is ferdinands voice so deep in the english dub? at least in the japanese version I can believe he is 20, be it a very mature 20 year old. Here he just sounds like he is 40.
He disobeyed a direct order in a Military organization and committed treason while doing so up until after WWII the first part would earn you the firing squad in every western Military and the second would earn you a good hanging and I wouldn't be surprised if they convicted you of both they wouldn't shoot at you while you dangled from the noose.
Yeah I was a little taken aback when I heard that, especially since they didn't even make a big deal out of it, a character just kinda goes "oh yeah, he ded"
Fun fact: in the Japanese dub, the green-haired noble used “are” when referring to Myne, so a closer translation would be “that” or “it” as opposed to “she”. No fault to the localization team, though. They got the point across, which is the most important part of their job.
The hard part with this is that it's not uncommon to do that in Japanese, doing that in English means something very different from what they're trying to do. It's like trying to translate one of the words for "you" to English, it'll be lost on a vast majority of viewers and those that do understand it might not expect it and missing it.
@@SherrifOfNottingham I don’t envy localizers or translators at all. It doesn’t help that so many languages have unique nuances that can’t be quickly conveyed (especially the dubs, which are limited by lip flaps). I’m just glad we know the general idea of what’s going on.
Showing too much emotion in your voice in Japan actually shows lower rank/bad training, not strength. So subtitled it's like Shizioka was a noisy self-important brat that gets a facefull of ice water from Ferdinand.
I'm kind of pissed that nobody here mentioned the technically biggest mistake he made by attacking her. If he would've crippled her then who would've restored the land's mana? If Ferdinand would not have been strong enough to do it? As a soldier, HE LITERALLY JEOPARDIZED THE MISSION BY DISOBEYING HIS OWN, SIMPLE TASK. And nobody says it to his face. "What do you think was the purpose of bringing her with us? To let her just watch us?"
He assumed that her power was less than his because she was a commoner. He also complained that she wasted Mana by giving the other soldiers, a blessing. He didn’t realize what he was dealing with. In the novel, the high priest noted that her power was much much more than he had expected when he set up this little demonstration.
I don't want to criticize the voice actors too much on the quality of their voice acting because of the threat of covid, especially considering some might have had to record from their homes. But this kind of dubbing is exactly why I don't listen to English dubs. There's not very much quality control when it comes to anime voice acting. There were quite a few problems with this scene and I'm not about to point out all of them, but at 4:29 when Ferdinand's VC delivers the line it's quite clear he was reading a poorly translated script. "Hurry. We need you to finish the ritual while the potion is still effective." It's very direct and straight to the point, which is typical of poorly translated scripts. I mean, Ferdinand literally walked away instead of speed walking, it's clear he's not in a hurry. This is what he would've said instead if they were to make it sound more natural: "Let us return, we need to complete the ritual while the potion is still in effect."
Also as a disclaimer, while some of these issues are caused by the voice actors, the majority of the blame goes to the anime studio in charge of recording their lines, as most of these errors wouldn't have happened if it weren't for them.
The male voices are OK but I have a real hard time with Myne's "Betty Boop" voice. Most English dubs suffer from bad casting but Myne's English VA is particularly bad. The Japanese original with subtitles is far superior to most dubs. And that holds true for bookworm.
the ONLY english dub ive foud to be better than the Japanese is "Tanya the evil" mostly due to differences in military terminology, the VA's were also sell selected unlike most EN dub's.
@@kazadori164 love me some Tanya. Have you seen the OVA they released recently? Operation Desert Pasta or something like that. It was really good and so was the movie.

I love the part after this where she renewed an entire field with her mana while the noble struggled to renew a 6 foot radius. So much for noble superiority
To be fair, your lowest ranking noble still outperforms 99.999% of non-nobles in all purposes. Myne simply is bonus strong because of being born with a high mana capacity ("Devouring") and surviving it (and technically being revived from it when 'Myne' died so Urano/Our Myne took over her body). If Myne hadn't survived the way she had (there was more to it than simply 'surviving'), she would probably be equivalent to a low noble like Damuel, maybe mid like Shikikoza, presuming she survived at all. Her mana's on par with an Archduke at this point, maybe a bit higher. Still she's the exception, not the rule. Like I said: 99.999% of commoners in this world is incapable of outperforming 'noble superiority'.
@@katomamundara8106 Each persons mana level is decided at birth, the devouring is just what happens when someone isn't able to control it with magic items. If Myne was born a noble but exactly the same in every other way she would have been just as strong. The reason Urano's soul possesses Mynes body was because original Myne didn't have any way to deal with excess mana and died. Urano would have possessed a different kids body bc original Myne would have been able to survive the devouring. Hypothetically any commoner born with the devouring COULD outperform a noble if they were born with enough mana, they simply don't get a chance bc they die. I think mana is like a gene that is passed down from the parents which is why Nobles have such a high rate of mana relative to the commoners who likely only get mana when some recessive gene activates. Also any nobles who had an affair with a maid or paid a visit to the red light district could have passed on mana genes into the commoner population.
@@vintagedot8350 Actually this is disproven in later parts. People's mana increases as they age (as their body becomes better at storing it/using it). But there are means to increase the general volume. In fact, Damuel learns one of these methods, and it's suggested to tell nobody he is increasing/increased because "People would make fun of him if they knew his mana was increasing again" as it's associated with a Noble's growth period. Edit: Also there's plot involving mana-levels and Myne doing things because her mana increased compared to earlier arcs. But I won't go into detail there.
@@vintagedot8350 Myne was born with a laynoble's amount of mana, actually. She would have died within a few weeks or possibly even days had she had such an absurd capacity from birth without a magic tool to protect her immediately. The devouring child send to the orphanage in Part 2 had more initial mana than her, for example, and he was only on the level of a mednoble. Still, that amount would have killed him while he was still a baby. Myne survived 5 years before succumbing to her devouring, so yeah. There are two factors that determine mana capacity: How much mana the mother is able to channel into the child during her pregnancy, and then how much the child can compress their mana during their growth period. Myne pretty much proves that the latter part is _way_ more important since she was able to go from a laynoble's mana capacity all the way to that of royalty before even hitting puberty. And funnily enough, had she been born as an actual laynoble she would have stayed as such. In that scenario she would have been given a magic tool from birth and thus would have never had a need to compress her mana as a child, thus her capacity wouldn't have grown that much. Oh, and by the way: Urano's soul did not possess Myne. The author clarified as much during an interview published in one of the fanbooks, but it was actually hinted at in the first few novels as well. Basically, the "old" Myne used to have strange dreams of a fantastical world where she could see all sorts of interesting things and was actually healthy. She also spoke in a foreign language at times, which her mother interpreted as baby speak. Another hint, then, is right at the beginning of the story. There, the Urano part of Myne hears her counterpart's final words ("It's hot" etc.) before going through a sensation of a bubble that had been surrounding her for a while bursting and then waking up as Myne. So basically, Myne had been a reincarnated Urano from the start, it's just that the memories of her old life were mostly dreams to her. Until the Devouring destroyed her mind and allowed the old personality to take over, possibly as a last ditch effort of her body to reign in her raging mana since a mature mind can handle the pressure much better.
@@vintagedot8350 nobles can't have children with commoner because they don't have mana, the rules also applied to nobles, a laynoble can't marry a mednoble or even archnoble and this will be one major plot point myne mana it's so high thats the only one can match her is archnoble from great duchy and royal family

Not just 7 year old, but one that can still pass as a 5 year old or younger. . .though they didn't/haven't really explained that in the anime.
That’s something I wish people would take into account. The character is a young child and unless you have an actual child actor the options for voicing them are either using a little kid voice (like here) or just saying “f it” and not doing anything to sound young.

There is something deeply upsetting about this sort of society. Even when the justice is aimed in the right direction, its not for the right reasons.
He was just in battle right before this right? His mana probably isn't max charged, giving him much more control over it.

As commoners generally don’t posess any significant amount of mana, most nobles don’t see them as anything more than stray dogs. But here he outright confirms what Myne said thus Shikikoza's smug look and Myne's fear make no sense in context...
I don't have an issue with the rest of the scene, but that one line for Damuel was a mistake in my opinion.
Weirdly enough, this change makes it be closer to the LN.

Yesss, myne's english voice is so cute!
Oh...! OH! They went with the Final Fantasy Tactics route for dialogue! OMG that is f**kng cool!
Bruh this is like Yami's second coming
"Damuel" sounds like a parody name in English.
The author says it’s actually a misspelling it was supposed to be Samuel.
Welp, as they alway say. OF WIT HIS HEAD!🍷
Ferdinard sounds like a secret boss waiting for someone to find him hidden behind the scenes
so which moment am I supposed to wait for?
Every character here has a villainous voice except Myne and Damuel
I dont know why but dubs usually makes me want to praise the Gods that anime does not coming from the dubber country.
Because Japanese female VA's can sound like children, while American female VA's sound like porn actresses.
@@ecchioni while American female VA's sound like.... (holy scream😱😡💢💢💢💢💢) what do you mean being poon actress?
I'm Dub watcher where I watch S1-2 in this video two years ago, what does have to do to mock the dub series so much to sink into a lost land like it was a myth! Never ever questions of so called Cultural appropriation (that's what dub vs sub country all about? Yikes 😳😬 🌩️⚡💥🤯) that's causing hindrance the of our ideas for discover new life new civilizations. (I want to watch anime if I watch with dub cause Ferdinand VA's (is praise the god) is also a Dubbed country HAHa!😂 lol, great😃).
Reba Buhr (Myne's VA) whose name is sound like German full family name as it was in Myne's Reincarnation World and not just being a pseudo-good (false good) voice actress cause They don't know better is good....not, it's great for her own right for emphasis her character (Myne). If these people need to understand what it means to be voice actress/actor perhaps it could save its future dub cause our way of anime community is spent, we need to preserve the truth, struggle and enlightened.
