- VAIL VR does something different from most VR multiplayer shooters. It combines the realistic physics and interactions that make VR military games so immersive, while having a unique sci-fi based aesthetic that sets it apart from the competition. Meaning, you’re getting the best of both worlds: virtual escapism with a cool visual style, AND immersive weapon handling and gunplay. And while the almost hardcore nature of the game might not be for everyone, if you’re looking for a competitive multiplayer shooter, then I think you’ll like VAIL VR.

Art direction aside, vail doesn't bring anything new to vr gaming, instead it's a standard vr shooter polished to perfection and I don't mean that in a bad way. While vr is in it's early stages and needs innovation, it's refreshing to get something that doesn't look/feel like a tech demo or a "my first unity project" but instead feels like an actual high quality product
THIS. Like most VR shooters are on life support if you don’t count modded content.
One thing that initially attracted me to vail was that it was trying to be its own thing. And then there’s the fact that every interaction feels intuitive and natural in VR. It’s crazy to me that it took this long for VR to get a shooter like that.
THIS. Polish is something that is absolutely missing from most VR games these days. So many try to add on features to no end, or just take a gameplay idea but dont execute it well. A simple, but VERY well polished VR game can be alot more interesting and memorable, then the most innovative game in the world, if it isnt polished.
HL:A is a good example. While its fairly simple for a VR game, its so far still the most polished VR game made, combined with good graphics and art direction (even for a flatscreen game).
So many indie VRs try to reinvent the wheel, when just taking a few simply gameplay mechanics and polishing is a better option and makes a better game overall.

I think the weapon/attachment progression system, character leveling, reliably consistent weapon reloading, and the realistic and satisfying gunplay is what separates Vail from other games like Contractors, Pavlov’s, Ghosts of Tabor, etc). I also cosmetic options and DLC. It seems the devs are super active in their own community, continuously working on the game instead of doing what contractors and Pavlov seem to be doing - letting the modding community keep the game interesting. The most significant official changes I’ve heard of in a while is Contractors’ new battle royale mode “Showdown.”
However, in the beginning when vail was first launched in early access, they did do an aggressive marketing push which was a bit of a turnoff at first

The weapon handling and leveling/gun upgrades are definitely the main reasons vail has become my favorite vr multiplayer fps. Some of what you mentioned in the middle of the vid about manual reloading can be applied to most of the core vr shooters tbh (Contractors, Pavlov, Ghosts of Tabor, etc.) but there’s something different about Vail. Kills and weapon handelong feel cleaner, fairer, more realistic, and most importantly - reliably consistent. Also super satisfying to get headshots, though I think there is still something missing there that could make it even better… maybe an additional sound fx and haptic feedback. I think this is one of the things Call of Duty actually does right - the kills and especially headshots are extremely satisfying.

I play a LOT of "Into The Radius" not just because of the great story and world, but because it has the best weapon handling and realism in any FPS I've played so far. (Yes, even better than Pavlov). I've also been watching the development of Vail and I'm very excited to see them check so many boxes. Great Review, M8.
Everything is better than Pavlov. Pavlov feels like I am in a body of a toddler trying to handle recoil.

@@justingood1443 well I bought it last night after I commented on it's actually pretty good I can see it staying around for a long period of time. How the game handles was really my concern to but it's very competitive and it translates really well save you play the game like ghost of Tabor how you aim and get kills in that game the recoil and everything is very similar. But generally I enjoyed myself way more than I thought I would I'll say that.

Haven’t tried on quest but vail in pcvr has always had what I thought was the best gun mechanics in vr

Even better than contractors? I like the faster pace of contractors, and showdown looks amazing (although completely different type of game).
@YoBrand15 contractors was my favorite before i tried vail...though i will note i wasnt into the modding in contractors, all i ever wanted to play was simple tdm and dm, and found it almost difficult to avoid all the mods...also the contractors community can be a bit juvenile and akin to a cod lobby with kids blindly screaming racial slurs and thinking that shits funny...i tried vail and never looked back, a straight forward, no fluff, competetive shooter that felt good to play with a usually more mature community, though i will say in the last couple weeks there has been a bit of an influx of kids, though most are usually seemingly more respectful and there to play the game, but theres always acceptions...i got nothin against kids playin the game, i just hate it when they act like obnoxious little brats...
@StewieDoesntExist this is a good perspective. I loved the modding of contractors and the fast pace (sliding and all) but yeah the community sometimes wasn't great, so looking forward to trying vail.
Only potential issue with vail is it will completely depend on how healthy of a player base it maintains. Because of the mods I can even have fun solo on contractors. And when contractors showdown comes out I wonder if it'll take people away from vail
@YoBrand15 people do like to call vail a dead game, and its true it had its ups and downs during its development, but i can tell you from personal experience and as a mostly near daily player there was never a time without people to play with and in its own way having a smaller community was a benefit, you actually see people youve played with before and theres a certain charm to that...now as the game grows with its full release im sure there will be a flood of new players but the og's will still be there and hopefully as the community grows it still maintains its roots and running into them again may be even more fun...as far as showdown goes, some people are loving it, i played it in alpha and it didnt seem for me, i plan on trying it again to see how far its come and how it plays now that its had a lot more work done to it, but personally im old school and not really a battle royale guy to begin with and it just seemed a bit more complex than i prefer...i just like to hop on after work and play a good ol fashioned arena style shooter personally, reminds me of games like timesplitters, quake, halo, red faction 2, where the goal is to just kill and not get killed, not for everybody, but its what i like and vail does this very well...hope if you decide to check it out you like it and maybe ill see you out there...

I’ve played quite a bit of Vail (as of late it’s been kinda dead sadly) and I think if we needed to compare it it’s most definitely a CoD game in vr minus a fast slide or dive. And it’s well made but I think you should definitely give X8 a try as well, it’s for sure Valorant in VR and has easier gun play but sooo much depth in abilities knowledge and usage that makes it crazy fun.

This game fixes my only issue with vr shooters: progression. I wish you had anything to achieve in Pavlov or contractors, maybe even skins, but nope. Seems like vailvr will become my main shooter ❤️

@@Angelo-wf4kf Contractors Showdown fixes a lot of that for sure. But yeah, Vail really feels like a complete multiplayer games at this point. Only thing that's missing is the friends list and party system, but that is live next week!
I bought this game on a Saturday, when I played it , all the other players were about 12. the maps were incredibly small. All the kids were just staying in the spawn area and shooting each other. There was no strategy involved. When I asked if this was how the game was played a kid said yes. We just stand by the spawn area and shoot, it does not change. I gave the game about 30 minutes. Left and put in for a refund right away. If they could make the maps bigger and have the teams spawn in different area's then I think the game would be great. For now it rewards camping and that takes the joy out of the game for me.

They are very different! If you’re looking for a more traditional team based shooter then definitely VAIL. But if you like survival mechanics and immersive extraction shooters then definitely Tabor.
first time I tried this months ago, game felt good but the lobbies were dead and buggy so I never bothered with the founders, now it's out and it's such a different experience

I've been asking people online for a while I've gotten mixed results, some say vail is too arcade like, some say vail is a mix of both, (somone even told me to get neither) so, what do you think is best? Vail, or onward (side note, I am hoping one of them will help with ghosts of tabor combat)
I’m team contractors. I played onwards for a very long time (i usually lean towards MILSIM), but contractors mod community makes it so much better. They have realistic milsim mods, fun mods like halo or star wars, even TF2. Contractors truly has something for everyone. And it’s $20.

I wonder why every video on this game is sponsored. I don’t doubt it’s a good game, but it just doesn’t seem like anything different. This review spent a solid 5 minutes explaining how your entire body is involved when playing and reloading. That’s literally every VR shooter out.

Grapple Tournament is better
Don't let these UA-camrs trick you into buying this game. It's $30 and it's not worth it maybe if it was like 15 it would be worth it but trust me it's not working. I already refunded it. I played for like an hour and a half and the game isn't horrible but it's not better than contractors or any of the other mainstream shooters in VR. Yes it has a progression system but that's about it. It still feels like it's in the beta stage. The game modes suck and the time to kill is extremely fast.
it went for 1$ on steam at one point, went for 6$ last sale at 15th Jan. they raised the base price to 30$ only recently. Contractors/Pavlov are way better value as things stand unless you're obsessed with competitive games.

Contractors has so many different maps and they have all them new loadouts like PMC, MW2 remastered, zombies, halo, and many other loadouts. The only thing that it's missing is a progression system but to be honest you really don't need it with that game. Would it have been nice to have to had unlocked all of the guns and sites sure. Was it needed though no it wasn't. So yeah if the game was 15 bucks I would say grab it but not for $30. Whenever you're voting for a game mode or map if somebody standing right in front of the button you cannot click it so one person can block you from voting which can be annoying. Also whenever you're trying to traverse the map and you have your gun in your hand if you turn and your hands hit the wall your character will drop the gun every single time.

there's just no identity to the game, when you look at it, it looks like a minimalistic version of Pavlov vr, and has no other skills than the guns itself. a game can be realistic, but it still needs its skill gams. CSGO is a game on terrorism, yet it still has skill gaps with b-hoping, grenade line-ups, recoil control(without curser movement) and quick scoping. Look at population one, sure its goofy, but it has a massive competitive seen due to its skill gaps. DT Reloading while doing movement in the air, while doing building, while communicating with you team on strats and enemy locations; population one, in comp, has your arms flying everywhere. you also have other games like breachers, who have that same competitive aspect that vail is looking for, but as said it has its skill gaps, with dynamic maps in multiple hatches and routes, and ways to stop those routes. Looking at vail it has mostly basic movement, non dynamic maps, guns without there quirks like quickscoping(all guns you simply look into the sight) or reloading in a way that allows for chain fire(physical mags means that you have to reload a certain way, and can only be better by moving you hands faster), and a mostly basic move and shoot strat that is on a linear plane.
Just bought it today and didnt even enjoy it. The community isnt great and neither is the gameplay, now dont get me wrong graphics good its just the matter of "knives only" i hear is what makes it underwhelming.
I thought by now VAIL would look better and have improvements but it still looks pretty uninspired and those run animations still suck!
I cant take you serious when you are sponsored by the game publisher. you talk like this game is the coming of chirst but It doesn't really offer anything different than any other FPS VR shooter. The only thing that this game has that others don't is the different grip styles i guess but that isn't anything crazy. Like the game looks good but i cant believe you fully when you are being paid to only say good things without any fair criticism. Also, it seems to me that they are using private exchanges for skins to avoid paying steam their cut, idk tho.

Sketchy business partnerships and deceptive marketing strategies aside, Vail brings nothing special or unique to the VR FPS scene. Vail's skill ceiling is incredibly low compared to other VR shooters and if you had any competitive knowledge whatsoever this would be immediately clear to you. The "meta" in Vail is quite literally getting the muscle memory to flick at head height, turning your headset volume up really high, and using the ridiculously broken nades as baseballs. If you want proof of this, take for example how other competitive VR scenes such as Pavlov have players clocking in thousands upon thousands of hours to try and master the complex recoil system, strategy, movement, and team composition required to come out on top. Vail has none of this. This becomes immediately clear when you realize that you'd be hard pressed to find a Vail player with more than a thousand hours on the game. The skill ceiling is so low that you can become close to perfect at the game just by aim training. Due to the fundamental way Vail is designed, it promotes run and gun gameplay with the fast movement, 0 recoil, and ridiculously fast TTK. For being a "competitive focused" game, ironically it is the weakest part of the game. The developers know this, but they're too far gone to make fundamental changes so they add polish and dangle money in front of people's faces. It's like lipstick on a pig. Don't get me wrong, the game is very polished, but the core gameplay is just inherently flawed and completely brainless. There is literally 0 strategy involved other than trying to nade people's spawns. Don't believe me? Look at one of the top players, Natix. Literally all he does is flick up at peoples heads while he runs around and wins. Please, if you're thinking about buying this game, consider if what I said above is a turnoff for you. If not, have fun I guess. The only reason people ever played Vail in the first place is because they got it for free and were told they could make $30k and go to Miami.

@@VirtualBroVR I don't know exactly what they are referring to, but their Tik Tok ad campaign is definitely very disingenuous and manipulative, they completely abandoned their competitive community in favor of pushing the game out to Quest, and tried to get away with getting people to buy into their NFT scam (Vailiens). They're just a sketch company overall.. Randomly popped up with an expensive Miami office and "7 years of development" under their belt. They also asked their competitive community if they could accept some sketch Saudi money. I don't really know what's up with that one but everything else I said is objectively correct and factual. Also, according to their tax docs they're over 3 million dollars in the hole, so...
