I suppose it was a good move on their part to keep it thinner. Profit wise it's better for them as they can divert customers who want a high-performance device from X15 to X17, and they also got some not-so-performance people in as this machine is quite portable and extremely sleek.
Great Video, On the Canadian website the 3080 model isn't available anymore. It took almost 3 months to get my i7, QHD, 3070 model that I ordered in June.

This is fun, but while I have "soldered" not unsoldered ram I have 32GB of it and it's timings are good for not being upgradable. Also know the facts... the m15R4 also has RAM soldered on and can't be removed. I get the lack of ports but then again I am a photographer and I haven't had a problem of not having ports available. I'm glad you have an opinion and I enjoy it but this X15 does work great for me. Maybe one day you will find what's right for you.
Good video. Why didn't you have a M15 R6 to compare? Also, I got the M15 R6 and I wanted to know if the trackpad could be replaced/upgraded with the X15 trackpad?
I have the M15 R4 with 3080 and love it. It's over a pound lighter than the 960M Lenovo laptop it replaced and beats my desktop with a 5700XT and R7 3700X in gaming. I don't travel much so it not being super thin is no big deal to me. Give me the performance!
X15 with cherry and 64GB RAM would be perfect. And I have not yet talked to _anyone_ who was shopping for a powerful/pro laptop who said they definitely need that 1-2 mm shaved off the thickness. Gonna ask for the X17 at work (due to a laptop upgrade this year), but would have preferred a 15" with upgradable RAM and the mech keyboard. 😕
I don't know man, I got this thing with the 11th Gen i9, 32gb ram, and the 3080. I've been running Doom Eternal, Deathloop, SC2, and Overwatch all on Ultra or maxed settings for several hours at a pop with no compromise to graphical quality. 120-250 fps or more with Ray tracing on doom eternal. I do have a cooling pad mount which may help I'm not sure lol. Love your approach and style of making videos man, no BS just to the point reviews keep it up. 👍
Dave, I couldn't help but notice the lack of a Microsoft Surface (studio or pro) review on your channel. Can you review the Surface Pro 8 with a focus on i5 vs i7? I'm torn between the two. I don't want the i7 if the thinness of the device causes it to throttle, and I haven't seen and can't find benchmarks comparing the two. All reviews I've read online were on i7 configurations. It would be extremely helpful if you can do this next. Thanks!
I'm glad I watched this video first as I was planning to buy this model. Owned 51m and I was looking to buy a newer laptop, this caught my eye since it's supposedly thin and it's convenient for me, but now that I've watched this I guess I'm gonna go with x17 instead even if it's a bit pricey than x15 😬
x17 is a great laptop, but it is important to point out the x15 r2 has dramatically increased the gpu wattage compared to the r1. 140w for the 3070 ti and 145w for the 3080 ti. Still runs hot but should provide that top-notch performance alienware is typically known for. I'm willing to bet Dave is going to like the x15 r2 significantly more than the r1
Acoustics largely driven by sealed vs. ventilated case. Alienware chose ventilation for thermal performance whilst Apple chose speaker performance. A big case has room for driver enclosures, so that is a loophole that the slim Alienware X15 can't use.
Hopefully Alienware still sends you laptop for future reviews😂 amazing review, keeps us consumers to think first before spending our hard earned money.

Would love to see a review of the new x16 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I suppose it was a good move on their part to keep it thinner.
Profit wise it's better for them as they can divert customers who want a high-performance device from X15 to X17, and they also got some not-so-performance people in as this machine is quite portable and extremely sleek.
Great Video, On the Canadian website the 3080 model isn't available anymore. It took almost 3 months to get my i7, QHD, 3070 model that I ordered in June.
so you ordered a shit laptop, what a AW moronic fanboy, LMFAO
lol, ok. I was pointing at chip shortages but I am enjoying it's portability. Moronic Fanboy out!
@@ItsMrRage What portability? The shit ports, it weighing more then the M15R4 despite having LESS wattage? Talk about shite
Legion 7 and competitors are within 0.4LBS weight and have Max-P 165w 3080's and Max P 3070's unlike your wattage gimped laptop, and have WAY more ports with extra ports on the side. And unsoldered ram, you bought a joke laptop
It'd probably have been better if it was using a more power/heat efficient with an AMD chip.
Good video. Why didn't you have a M15 R6 to compare? Also, I got the M15 R6 and I wanted to know if the trackpad could be replaced/upgraded with the X15 trackpad?
I think we have to live a second life to collect the price of this computer, a Syrian Kurd, salute to you
Nice keep it up dave
Im more interested in the fish tank behind. What fish do you have Dave?
Thats the thing, my m15 r3 with i7 10th gen and rtx 2080 super can do better thermals with similar Fram rates.
You paid for the thinness not the power, you paid for last year's power with next gen thinness. My best understanding of it.
Soft focus on the background is better than the foreground being soft! Especially on the frontal shot its a bit weird for the viewer's eyes
Thanks!
I really dig the new rounded edges textbox
@Elliot Lila *rounded edges noises*
Still waiting on mine ,the same exact one. ordered by end of June. reaally really frustrated from the delay but dont want to cancel it.
Hey David, could you give a 2021 budget gaming laptop review to buy during the holiday season?
I’ve had a few Alienware rigs and the big beefy chassis models? Never had an issue.
thanks i was waiting for x15
4:09 are the color accuracy numbers switched? cause I don't think I've ever seen a display with a higher Adobe RGB coverage than sRGB.
Stupid question Dave, I like your watch! Which model is it?
Performance feind !!!!!! Now that's a phrase I would use often from now on...
Please do something with the aquarium. This really need some aqua scaping. Maybe add a background or something
Dave 2020: Gaming Laptops are too thicc
Dave 2021: Gaming Laptops are too thin
One question on your studio renovation: what panels did you use on the wall? Concrete backing board ?
hi dave! will you make a surface laptop studio review?
Acoustics largely driven by sealed vs. ventilated case. Alienware chose ventilation for thermal performance whilst Apple chose speaker performance. A big case has room for driver enclosures, so that is a loophole that the slim Alienware X15 can't use.
hi dave , which one is better for pragraming stuff and regular work for long time? dell xps 15 9510 i7 or asus rog m16 i9?
Love the new intro
Hopefully Alienware still sends you laptop for future reviews😂 amazing review, keeps us consumers to think first before spending our hard earned money.
got it at best buy open box fair for $1053 w/o a box manual and chargers, i love it but i also don't game a lot (or at all rn tbh), it was a really hard opportunity to pass up even tho i tried resetting it so i could return it but it was experiencing issues
@Dave2D, Which backpack is that? 😮 2:01
The thing I like about Dave is he's always to the point and honest. Not like others telling craps.
When is the review of studio book coming? Also the legion 7?
Dave politely roasted dell's engineering team. Bold Constructive criticism.
