I just got one of these brass watercolor boxes! I love it and am curious if you have found anymore information on them? Company/person that made them? Year they were made?
Mine came with some Windsor and Newton half pans in it but I don’t know if they were original or not.
Also mine has a black paint over the entire brass. It’s chipping away in some places so I might just strip that paint off.
A good friend told me that the water well has two hole because one is for pouring while the other acts as an open hole to allow flow better.
    I love this thing!

wtg with the travel field box, I have never seen one like it. I use to make my own homemade paper, and I put bits of ground up fabric and laundry lint, I found if I left out the fabric, my paper would turn on brittle and cardboard like. you screen your paper pressing down, getting as much of the water out of the paper, I ironed mine, making it as thin as I could get it. lots of fun.
My newest project is making my homemade binder for watercolor paints. I ordered a couple of watercolor recipe books, to teach me the correct measurements. from what I have read, different color pigments need more binder etc.

I keep coming back to your videos, they are always so inspiring. I haven’t been doing landscapes that long but your atelier course and these UA-cam videos have helped me so much and I have recently sold some of my originals. Just wanted you to know how much your content means to me, thank you!

The first vintage watercolor travel case is actually sold at Jackson's Art Supplies. That's where I purchased mine.

It's very similar, but this one is an antique.

You have such beautiful colors in your watercolor box (shown at 5:30 in the video). Did you mix those colors yourself or did you purchase them from someone. If it is the latter, would you mind sharing the maker and colors. They're so pretty together and just a lovely combination.

The deep well palettes make the gouache stay wet and creamy

Love your videos, Marian :) I recently acquired an antique brass watercolor field box that looks very much similar to yours. There are half pans already in my box and I can't figure out how to dislodge them. One side of the interior has a metal divider that looks immovable, like in your images of your box, and the other divider side looks like it has a brass removable piece (similar to modern bijou boxes that hold the pans in place) that I can't figure out how to remove. The length of the bar is tucked under the outter edge of the box. Have you been able to get pans fitted into your box?

Because of our move, I haven't played around with it, yet, but I intend to fit in pans and fill them. I'll let you know what I figure out!

It is M Graham!! I don't know where you get Martha from.

That is so funny! I have a degree in theatre and studied dance. If you're familiar with the dance world, Martha Graham is a very famous dancer and a pioneer of modern dance. I must've crossed my artistic disciplines! 😂
