Awesome video and good enough to get me to subscribe. Britannia was my favourite Triang Hornby model as a kid and it is just so wonderful to see her alive in this video
I was a fireman at 5A Crewe sheds in 1947/1954. I have fired all thee vines at Crewe, to London and Glasgow. I had lost of good trips and bad coal, and possibly me doing something wrong. But we never had it fail. I always remember the most experience up Shap on a Baby Scot .it was quite a trip, the driver shouted to me , come and see the chimney. It was like a fireworks show, and I have never seen anything like it, it was at night time on that trip , marvellous coal and blowing off steam from the safety valves constantly Normally the fireman saw little about the scenery up Shap. Busy putting coal up the chimney. The driver said we must have set fire on the sheep on that trip. I am now 86: and. It. Is nice to see the films you show now. Geoff Hillyard
Fantastic video of the two railtours Liam. The shot of 45699 and 70000 at Shap was incredible. I was out to see 45690 on 'The East Yorkshireman'. Cameron
+MyLoveOfRailways It was a great sight, though I only got to enjoy it through a viewfinder. At first I was disappointed that the Brit got held up by the Jubilee, but on reflection later on, I realised that I'd just witnessed a great occasion.
Absolutely cracking video capturing great locos in beautiful country and some incredible sounds. It's evident the Jubilee was struggling to lift that load up the hill whereas the Brit seemed completely at ease. It's a shame the Jubilee wasn't put inside at Grayrigg to allow Britannia to power through and fly up Shap. At least she got a chance to stretch her legs on the southbound run over Ais Gill.
winco68 Thanks very much. The load was a big ask for a, Jubilee, up, Shap. But, I, think the loco & crew, did an excellent job, while the, Brit, was well in control. Thanks for your comment. Regards, Liam
Another one of your productive and successful days of filming. All very enjoyable to watch. The Brit looked awesome and great sounds by both locos. Regards Andy
Excellent video Liam/Phil, It appeared that the fireman on Galatea was having problems, not so with Britannia as could be seen as she came into view with safety valves lifting, superb clips throughout, it's a like, cheers...Bill
84asrd84boxy Cheers, Bill. Probably one coach to many for, Galatea. I'm also informed the coal wasn't to good. Mind you, the driver done a sterling job to keep her going. Not a lot needs to be said on, Britannia. A great engine in fine form. Thanks for watching & commenting. Regards, Liam
I was watching the bit with Galatea and when I ended I was hoping for a cut scene, but when I saw the Brit I shouted OH MY GOD!!!!! as I saw how close they were. An amazing video. Really enjoyed. Matt
As always, superb work Liam. Yourself and Phil produced a fine set of shots at good locations. I like the track level angle at Birkett, one I've not seen done so much. Thanks for sharing your days filming.
Steaming Around The Midlands Thanks, Sam. The low angle at, Birkitt, is not often done, due to moaning of the photographers at the back. Told them where to go this time, lol
Superb Driver /firecrew maintaining a steady beat against probable double yellow lights at times thus keeping steady progress without comng to a halt and subsequent difficult re-start. Great video, many thanks
Henry Taysom Thanks very much. It was a great performance from loco & crew. I, thought the crew on, 45699, did well, with a heavy load & low boiler pressure.
acw71000 Thanks, Austin. Glad to part of such a rare event. Though, I, would still of chosen, a non interrupted run up, Shap, from them Brit. Regards, Liam
Excellent coverage there Liam, great sound and vision with Britannia seeming on top form with a highly skilled crew, great to watch. Looks like you had really good day out. Many thanks for sharing, Cheers, Alan
Alan Lucraft Thanks very much, Alan. We had a great day in the, Northern Fells. The engine is in great nick, at the moment and with the right crew on board, it rarely lets you down. Regards, Liam
Liam - all great shots, but your panning was excellent. (You must have a good tripod!). It is amazing to think that two steam trains could follow one another just through the coincidence of timetabling. What a pan back at about 5:05 !! Very interesting to see 70000 accelerate away with that sort of power up the grade (when the signals looked like they changed to clear). At speed... it looks like the guys who have done her valve timing have done a very very very good job... she sounds almost unbelievably 'crisp and even'!!!! ……Hᴜɢʜ….ツ
HughFromAlice Hugh, thanks for your kind comment. It was great to have the tours running so close to each other, but, I, would of preferred to of seen the, Brit, have a clear run up the bank. Nevertheless, it's was great to witness such a rare event. The people who have worked on, Britannia, most recently, have got running like a sewing machine, at the moment. Thanks for your comment. Regards, Liam
Peter Dovey Thanks, Peter. Sorry for the late reply. The camera, I, use is a, Panasonic V750. They are great cameras, which work well in low light. Regards, Liam
Memories of my youth in the NW in the 1950s. Also the long shots are always the best, some get too close to the action.............wish I was there..MIKE 300 miles away in S/Wales
Mike Wilcock Cheers, Mike. I, like the distance shots and, I also like the closeup shots to. You just have to strike the right balance, so the viewer won't be disappointed. Regards, Liam
If you look carefully you can actually see the moment the Brit crew get the clear signal as both heads go back in the cab and the driver opens the regulator. Within a few seconds she is accelerating away up Shap. That was very impressive, I honestly didn't think a Brit could do that with 11 on.
I think my being in your way at Langwathby gave you a more better more refined shot. Was wondering why nobody complained about me and the other sitting in the field right in front of you.

This video of featuring our beloved " Britannia " must be the the best on You Tube.. INCREDIBLE
Great stuff, really enjoyable, thank you, Pete
Only thing missing on Shap was a grubby 9F on a freight... Brilliant footage!
What an amazing event, 2 steam on Shap. Would love to have been there to witness it, but thanks for sharing.

Andy Edkins Cheers, Andy. Was a great performance from the, Brit, on, Saturday, and looks like it's back to it's best. Galatea, was also a nice bonus.
Great tracking shots - well done - thank you for posting

MI Rail Cheers, Matt. I, had to trim down that scene, as it lasted over 13 minutes ! Thanks for watching.

A good production Liam giving good coverage of this interesting day
acw71000 Thanks, Austin. Glad to part of such a rare event. Though, I, would still of chosen, a non interrupted run up, Shap, from them Brit. Regards, Liam
Excellent log of events Liam and the Brit does go well when its unleashed..
Cheers Phil.
***** Cheers, Phil. It's certainly a capable loco. Possibly better than it's fellow classmate.
Cracking footage from team Liam , both tours made for a super video and something of a record since steam days to get steam that close together .
Instablaster...
fantastic,such great trains..good job!
RAILsIMAGES Thanks ! Glad you liked it !
Just amazing to see two steamers, both working hard,in beautiful country side, Great work Liam, Thank you
Ernest Johnson Was an incredible sight, Ernest. Glad you enjoyed the video. Regards, Liam
Wow!!! that 70000 has some serious torque at low revs.
Excellent coverage there Liam, great sound and vision with Britannia seeming on top form with a highly skilled crew, great to watch. Looks like you had really good day out. Many thanks for sharing, Cheers, Alan

Fireman busy shoveling coal on 45699 looks very relaxed on 70000 footplate.
Here's an idea, why didn't they combine the two train's together? Awesome footage and sound.
Great video Liam...Nice one...Steve.~
***** Cheers, Steve. Thanks for watching,
I just can't imagine the immense stress on the side rods and journals.
Superb piece of filming, so sharp, what camera do record on, it gives great results. Many thanks for your efforts to show us this.
Peter Dovey Thanks, Peter. Sorry for the late reply. The camera, I, use is a, Panasonic V750. They are great cameras, which work well in low light. Regards, Liam

antman09ful1 Cheers, Mike. Will have a look at your, Cumbrian Coast, action once, I, get a chance. Regards, Liam
If you plan to sell a dvd of this ,let me know.
Mike Wilcock Mike, no plans yet to make a dvd. The video, will always be available on here for free, along with my other videos. Regards, Liam
You can cast these videos direct to your smart TV.

Pesmog Very strong locos in my opinion ! I don't think I've ever seen the two surviving, Brits, ever struggle ! Thanks for watching & commenting.
Fab video.
Its a shame, thanks to welded rail joints, there is no more rickety rack or clickety click of the wheels going over the joints...
What camera do you use?
Ian Hardman Panasonic V750 & Panasonic V700
Cheers!
Fab good locutions
excellent video, I doubt two consecutive steam tours so close together up shap will ever happen again.
MrKnowwun Cheers, Jeff. Most likely not. But, was great to be there.
Would like to have seen a bit more panning though. PLEASE.
I think my being in your way at Langwathby gave you a more better more refined shot. Was wondering why nobody complained about me and the other sitting in the field right in front of you.
atomiswave1971 You was o.k in your position, though a few inches to the left, and you might of got some ear ache, lol.
