Joe Lando interview from SEEDS OF DOUBT [2.32]

eNOW talks with Joe Lando on the set of SEEDS OF DOUBT, which was filmed in the summer of 1996, and released May 28, 1998. (Transcript below.)
TRANSCRIPT:
[Joe] ...to bust out of that and do something else, and not be wearing buckskins.
[Narrator] And we play doctor with Joe Lando.
[Narrator] Now a days, though his hands are full with DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN. Let's just think about that for a moment, shall we?
[Narrator] As Byron Sully, Joe Lando is every woman's dream. Strong, yet sensitive, smart, and sexy. But the heartthrob of prime time had problems wrestling with his celebrity status. eNOW talked life, love, and the pursuit of DR. QUINN with the medicine man on the set of his new film, SEEDS OF DOUBT.
[Joe] Nobody prepares you to be a celebrity. You're just Joe-schmo one day. The next day people are expecting things of you. The celebrity thing is just something that you have to kind of wing, you know. I tend to be painfully shy, so I'm glad that my celebrity-ism is very, very, tiny.
[Narrator] Before Lando was steaming up the soap sets of ONE LIFE TO LIVE and GUIDING LIGHT, he was steaming vegetables for many a leading lady.
[Joe] Catering was a great experience. I worked on the sets and locations like SILKWOOD and THE MAN WHO LOVED WOMEN, and got to be around a lot of actors and directors, people that I admire. And then I worked on a movie called I LOVE YOU TO DEATH. I have two credits in that movie, but I was cooking. My hands were on camera being Kevin Kline's hands.
[Narrator] And speaking of hands, Lando had a big hand in boosting DR. QUINN's viewership. But the actor People Magazine named as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People insists that it has nothing to do with his physique.
[Joe] It's a good wholesome show, something that everyone can sit down and watch. We have a big cast, so there's somebody in the cast that you can pick out as someone who reminds you of yourself. I think that has a lot to do with it.
[Narrator] Although the role of Sully has made Lando's career, the 34-year-old actor doesn't completely identify with the mysterious frontiersman he portrays.
[Joe] Ten months out of the year I'm playing Sully, and for five years now I've done that part. It's just refreshing to bust out of that and do something else, not be wearing buckskin and riding horses. It was fun for, like, two days. But now it's been... gets a little toasty.
[Narrator] Lando's bucking his buffalo skins for a chance to make his viewers' skin crawl as a mysterious sculptor, wrongly accused of murder.
[Joe] This is called SEEDS OF DOUBT, as of right now, and it's an independent feature with myself, Alberta Watson, Peter Coyote. I'm an ex-con... just got out of jail after 4 years. Because of a series of copycat murders that then happen, it tends to lead you to believe that it wasn't me, and then it's back to you're thinking it's me, and it's kind of a red herring, you know?
[Narrator] Lando is just as protective of his off-screen love interest as he is about his on-air relationships. He is reportedly dating a New Zeeland school teacher after a brief fling with costar, Jane Seymour. The only love of his life that he will talk about is Rosie, his dog.
[Joe] She usually goes with me... to set, she goes with me every day. And this next job she'll be going with me to Carolina, but right now she's at home with my parents. My parents are house-sitting for me.
[Narrator] On DR. QUINN's new season, Lando's looking for new ways to get home.
[Joe] It's a train wreck. You just don't know who survives.
[Narrator] Oh, yes. I'd say that's about a 9.2 on the testosterone Richter scale. Future surprises on the show may include a cropped mop for Lando. DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN airs Saturdays at 8:00 on CBS.

Sully remind me of my husband he is a loner and likes to be off by. himself abd like Sully he's not far away he was very humble and knowledgeable about life he was also very peaceful but with the exception of being shy, he knows people all over Chicago my husband walked just Sully...Lol lol

Yes, just for a short time that started during the filming of the pilot, which was a whole year before the pilot even aired.

The Dr Quinn is a good holsum show with good morals but he needs to stick with one character or roles alien, killer, swindler, witch all these unrelated characters he should stick with one that is more in tune with himself....

Michelle Byrd - That’s not how acting works. A good actor is capable of playing just about anything and they often choose a variety of roles to show what they can do.

I have a pretty much but the public in general recognize a strar for their character: If John Wayne were to play a vampire it would not suit his Character.I can deal with the Alien because it is more itune with him but when He plays a killer well Couldn't take it serious.Most stars are known for their roles they play.

Most actors prefer not to be type cast like that because then they are limited to those roles.
