    I’m looking to up my lighting game for our family’s haunt this year. So the timing was great and this will be a great resource for future reference.

    Another great video. One thing I've learned over the years is flickering point source lighting like candles really makes a graveyard.. And it's better to error on too much light then too little.

    I love learning from your videos. Your directions are clear and easy to follow and not full of extra things that can be confusing. I noticed the Olde English D on your Orange and Blue hat and it looks great! Greetings from Detroit! Keep up the great work.

    Great video! Could you explain your whole audio system? And are the rca connections used for both audio and lighting?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 місяці тому +2

      The rca connector lighting is its own separate thing. Our audio setup is just a few speakers and amplifiers. Not very high tech at all.

      As for lightning effects, there’s the Perfect Storm lightning fx box, there’s the Lights Alive line of lightning fx boxes. It’s check out frightprops.com to see what’s out there.

    Can I ask how you waterproof the power supply that is outside of the waterproof box? Do you have it inside your house/garage and then run the cables out?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 місяці тому +2

      Basically. It’s inside of one of our columns safe from the elements.

  • @DavidNance
    @DavidNance 3 місяці тому

    I created a power distribution center using a waterproof hinged box and DIN rail mounted Wago blocks. I brought 120VAC into the box with its own circuit breaker in the box. I then used a AC to DC power converter to get 12 vdc at 5 amps. So I have a mix of 120vac and 12vdc 5a available depending on my decorations. Then I used lamp cord and vampire plugs to run power to each display point.

    For your homemade lightning box, I noticed during the demo that the lightning looks like it was in bands of light. Was this the case or due to how it was picked up by your camera?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 місяці тому +1

      It's the rolling shutter on the camera that's capturing those bands. You'll see the same when trying to film LEDs if they're not refreshing at the same shutter speed as the camera.

    Hey, as quoted in Young Frankenstien, "Nice Grouping". great to have a collection of similar focused builds on one page. I have a portion of my Halloween display on the hill behind my house. Boot Hill cemetery kinda thing. White crosses and a hanging Skeleton from a tree. I use a perfect storm for a lightning effect and it works ok. I want to step it up by attempting a lightning strike effect, I thought a series of LED's in an 8 or 16 channel chase from top of a branch to the ground ending with a Large strobe and a billow of smoke at the strike point. Do you know of any resources that may offer some guidance in accomplishing this? Thanks for you work.

    Hey boss! You talk about flicker circuits in a few of these, and looking at them they are usually barrel connectors. How do those work with your new lighting system? An adaptor?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 місяці тому

      Exactly. You could do a more permanent installation by cutting, stripping, and soldering the connections but I like the option to remove or replace parts, so I just went with adapters.

      @@VanOaksPropsand so this would take the place of the barrel adapter? Electronics in your country confuse me

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 місяці тому

      @@hardiehardley sorry. I misunderstood the question. The barrel connector adapters need to match whatever size is on your power supply. You’ll want to measure the outside and inside diameters as well as the depth of the plug to find the correct size for your power supply.

    I live on a corner lot with traffic lights and much light pollution. Do you have any idea how I can create spooky mood lighting for Halloween in my yard? What would you do to filter out this pollution?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  2 місяці тому +1

      Unfortunately light pollution is a haunts worst enemy. There's not a lot that can be done to create moody lighting when dealing with traffic/street lights.
