  • Just How Accurate Is YOUR Scale? That's the question I've been asked, so Big Mike, Phantom Fishing and I set out to see just out of which scale is the most accurate. I also give my thoughts on the Googan Squad Scale.

Fun video guys! Thanks! There is one scale that if you weigh with that scale you don’t need to send the scale in if you have a record fish ( like I would need that, lol, unless it is for the smallest fish 😂)

To get the average, add the total weight, then divide by the number of items. For instance you had 3 items, add the total weight of three then divide by the total by three.

Zip lock baggie keeps the scale dry in the kayak . I’ve got a Googan scale and you need to weigh the fish a couple times to make sure the weights correct . Bass Pro Scale works pretty good and seems to stay true .

It's funny you did this video because just last night I was checking the accuracy of my RUNCL scale. It's was only off by 4.6 grams. I have two 200 gram calibration weights for a kitchen scale I used to check it. The RUNCL scale looks to be the exact same scale as your Connect. The Runcl is only $12 free shipping on Amazon. I've had it since August 2020 and it's still pretty accurate!

I grabbed the rapala scale, and a bass pro one, did the same test with 5lb weight, my rapala was almost 10oz off. Also dropped my bass pro in the water lol, but it was almost dead on 9 out of 10 times.

When weighing something with a free hanging scale the item being weighed must be centered on the grip holding it. Also the zip ties sometimes held the 5 pound weight off to the side which probably caused it to come up shy of 5 pounds.

Love this idea and would like to see the higher end scales tested. I personally use the Googan scale and you’re right about the texture. It’s a nice touch. I’m sure there’s some scientific reason behind the weight slightly being off on all of them due to hanging weight or slight movement. Close enough for me though lol

These scales at best can only give a rough estimate of your catch... Keep trying others, but I'm willing to bet that BogaGrip mechanical scale will be the most accurate given its design (and cost!). I'd be interested to see how the Catch Commander does as well to see if its price tag is justified compared to the others. For tournament fishing a balance is your best option to cull fish.

Great review!!💪🏻 I really don't think what scale you use out on the boat is accurate and will be off a little. Watching the Elite Pros most of them use the Rapala and they know the ballpark they're in. Watching the weigh-ins some might say they thought the weight was a little less but the weigh-in scales are a little higher. Don't think a high end would be any more accurate but that's my opinion. Good job guys!!!!! Thanks for sharing!! Big Mike, Don't worry about that "W". We all have days like that and that's why they call it fishing not catching!!!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!

I bought the Piscifun with gripper. I tested it with a 20# weight. I weighed the 20# weight first on a scale. It came in at 19.6 and the fish scale varied from 18.1 to 19.4, all over the place. I decided to send it back and after watching this video, I don’t know if I’m going to buy another one.

Like the Science Fair style experiment on scales accuracy. Would like seeing other brands accuracy. Maybe at some point try seeing if their is a connection between length of fish and the weight of the fish. For an example a 14 inch bass should weight 1.2 lbs. Something like that maybe 🤷‍♂️

personally have to googan scale, its definitely nice to use but and works well enough for ballpark but I was kinda disappointed at how off it was for me today, I caught my pb today which was 21 inches and undoubtedly at least 5 pounds but the googan scale was reading a consistent 4.14 and then whatever scale my dad had was reading in in the 4.7 range. Idk if you already did a high end scale test video (about to go look and see if you did) but I would love to see it and see if those are more accurate and nicer for a pb measuring situation

I have the Googan and don't trust it at all. I caught a 4.6 bass and it said it was 3.15. I think the problem is that it jumps around too far. I expect a scale to jump around a few ounces before settling down, but the Googan jumps around a few pounds.

I purchased a Rapala DFG50 boga grip version, if i have the model number correct. I normally use a 5lb weight myself and add another 5lb for a second time. Then whatever i attach the weight to, i attach to the scale 1st for zeroing out. Then i weighed the weights and its on the money. Within 1/10ths from a pound.
What im saying if im correct 5lbs is 5lbs or 4.99.

I must say, any scale with a moving object will not be accurate. No matter how expensive. This is why an accurate weight is only achievable with fish on their side immobilized using a more traditional style plate scale, like Texas Parks & Wildlife uses for giant bass and also most bass fishing tournaments.

That's not always true, maybe in portable fish scales it is. But trucks are weighed on a floating platform daily to get accurate weights. These scales are calibrated multiple times a year though. There's floating scales used in many food industry plants as well. I think higher end fish scales are more closely calibrated to a exact weight than cheaper mass produced scales are.

The one that cane out this year by accu cull is the only one you see people use around lake st clair these days... Only because its tournament grade and comes with a crossbar handle thing that negates needing to be on land to be completely accurate so you can send it in for records without needing their scales or having to bring it to shore... If you make another video give that one a whirl. Id immagine its the gold standard as of now?

    @jeffhamelau6053 Рік тому

THe problem you are seeing is probably coming from your home scale. unless the home scale is certified by a NISTA standard it is going to have an accuracy of +/- 1% to 2%. 155lbs at 1% is 1.55lbs. At 2% is 3.1ibs. The 5lb marking on the weight has margin of acceptable weight plus/minus 5lbs. That being said I would have more trust in the fishing scales against each other. The fishing scales have an accuracy range as well. What I got from your video is that the 3 different scales are basically preforming the same when you consider actual accuracy.
