Justin is a lifelong hunter, fisherman, and conservationist. Growing up on the southern Oregon coast he cut his teeth on blacktails, Roosevelt elk, spot and stalk black bear, waterfowl, and upland of the region. He attended college in Ashland, Wisconsin where he obtained his degree in natural resources from Northland College. While here, he became immersed in the whitetail world of the upper Midwest. In addition to enjoying the world class grouse and deer hunting and opportunities supplied by Lake Superior, Justin found the time to serve on the local Trout Unlimited chapter board.
After meeting his now hunting partner and wife in college, they moved back out west first to Oregon, then Idaho and finally landing in Montana in 2008 where Justin took a job as the Assistant Director of Big Game Records for Boone and Crockett Club. He spent 15 years at Boone and Crockett rising to the Director of Big Game Records. During this time, he served 9 years of the Board for the Montana Wild Sheep Foundation.
In 2023 Justin assumed the role as the Executive Director of Pope and Young and continues in that position today. He has been fortunate enough to hunt many western states and throughout the US. Some of his favorite hunting accomplishments include an unguided public land deer slam as well as accomplishing the same feat with all three species of moose.
September 5, 2023 - Pope and Young, America’s leading bowhunting organization, is pleased to announce the hiring of their new Executive Director, Justin Spring. Pope and Young is incredibly excited to bring Justin on as the next Executive Director and is excited about the organization's direction in its entirety. Justin is a well-established conservationist, measurer, and lifelong bowhunter who has found great success in the field.
Justin's experience he brings to Pope and Young comes from both his professional goals and personal passion for hunting and conservation. He is a lifelong bowhunter and has spent the last 15 years with The Boone and Crockett Club starting as their Assistant Director of Big Game Records in 2008 and moving into the Director of Big Game Records role in 2015. He holds a BS degree from Northland College where he studied Biology and Natural Resources.
