The European pagan faiths are all descended from the same Indo-European proto-faith, that has become Hinduism. Now obviously, while its roots are firmly there, the fruit has changed according to the region it made it to. In the North you have the Norse-Germanic, in the Mediterranean there is the Greco-Roman, and so on and so forth. There are further differences even within those groups, with Continental Germanic having Tiwas/Tyr as the King/Chief of the Gods rather than being supplanted by Woden/Odin, and the utterly amazing pantheon assembled by the end of the Roman Empire's high point.

That's something interesting about the Norse faith, I find, actually. Odin isn't a sky-god. Thor is, but Odin is the God of Death(and wisdom, and poetry and such). That was one of the problems the Latin Christians had when trying to explain the pagan faith of Scandinavia. They expected a Germanic version of the Greco-Roman pantheon.
What they found was a decidedly different hierarchy. Odin had to be associated with Mercury rather than Zeus/Jupiter. I find it interesting that in the Norse faith, the King of the Gods is, like in Hinduism(well, in Hinduism, the Supreme Avatar of the Divine) is the God/Avatar of Death rather than of the Sky
and what is death anyways? I also found Odin to be called Father Sky many times. Sky, netherworld, aboveworld... it's all dimensions we humans couldn't and still can't grab or grasp.

If Hitler was a hardcore Christian, would he have Himmler or Rosenberg in such high positions? No, so he wasn't a Christian. 1. that's wrong. it's all regional, if there's more white people there that's what you'll see, go to the south and you'll run across black and brown artists everywhere especially New Orleans

Most of the old fashioned-bands were communist (look at SPK) I think it started with Neofolk (-> military pop, martial Industrial, ...) and some Artists from the NSBM-scene. But you're right, it is weird, especially when neonazi-bands like "Von Thronstahl" cover old punk-songs...

Each genre has adopted nationalist ideas/totalitarian aesthetics for their own reasons. With martial industrial, first was Laibach, who made a parody of totalitarianism. Many failed to see the parody, though. Later bands use the same aesthetics for their own reasons, which vary. With black metal, first was interest in ancient pagan myths already present in heavy metal, and then there was Bathory, that was a black metal band but then went to create the genre of viking metal. Varg Vikernes of Burzum was probably the first who took paganism more seriously and also introduced nationalist politics.
