- Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green is a first-person shooter licensed video game based on the George A. Romero zombie horror movie Land of the Dead.
Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green utilizes traditional first-person shooter gameplay. Players can use a variety of either melee weapons or firearms to fight through the zombie hordes. Some weapons are capable of dismembering the zombies, whilst other weapons are not. The zombies' jaws, heads, arms, forearms, and legs can be shot or chopped off by the player. This can very effectively save the player so as to make an escape. The zombies themselves appear in many varieties (regular, ones armed with a melee weapon, crawlers, puking ones, screamers that summon other zombies, and poisonous, exploding ones) and each takes a different amount of hits to kill, which varies upon the difficulty setting of the game. The player cannot become a zombie, but it is stated that people who die for any reason become zombies, like in the movie.
The multiplayer component of the game consists of many online game types. These consist of deathmatch, team deathmatch, and "Capture the Flag" modes. There is also an "Invasion" (co-op survival) mode, in which players are trapped in a small map where they must survive for a chosen amount of time. In this mode, the weapons and ammunition regenerate in the same spots each time, allowing the players to dodge the burden of ammunition shortages. Players can pick up melee weapons from recently killed melee weapon wielding zombies as well. In some variants of Invasion maps, players who die or are bitten by zombies become zombies themselves, and try to kill their former teammates. As of 2013, the multiplayer is still populated and actively supplied with new maps, as made by independent developers.
This game scared the shit out of me when i played this in my teens.
Same. I think I spent the majority of my playtime in this game back then in the farmhouse, when you had to "find out what the stranger wants".
Just the idea of getting close to a zombie that could, in concept, grab onto you and overwhelm you, knocking you over in the process and proceed to feast on your flesh as you remain conscious throughout the process scared the ever living crap out of me. I remember stalling for time for as long as possible, just exploring the house and the outdoors, without coming close or even getting into the zombie's peripheral vision. And when I felt that I had to, it was then that all hell broke loose for me. I could never get past this stage as fear just kept me paralyzed. It was that scary for me.
In hindsight, I can only laugh at myself when I compare my present self to my past self, where I often like getting up close & personal in games like L4D2, to bash or slice some zombie up.
Yes. When I wash my face in the bathroom, I feel unprotected from behind and I need to close the door, otherwise I will think that an old woman is following me and wants to eat me.
The game was a budget title on release. I think it was $20 on day one. Its flawed, but enjoyable for fans of zombies. Also, until Killing Floor and L4D, RTFG had the best coop zombie experience available. This game preceded the onslaught of zombie games of the last few years.
These guys made somewhat of a spiritual successor to RTFG. But it's even more obscure. It was called Day of the Zombie. It even reuses some of the same stuff from the game.
Back when I had a shitty pc and wished for a zombie game that I could run, this one was the best decision ever, even thought it is short and easy...it was like an own movie and playing it gave you somewhat a good impression on how things would be if you would actually deal with brainless zombies, making your op like behaviour seem like a stylistic element rather than just bad design. I think it was great for its time, even if not looked at its graphics, because of the overall setting, how it build up and stuff. The best scene in a horror game so far is still in this game, it is when you walk through the cornfield without seeing anything past a few meters in front of you, not knowing if there could be a random zombie hiding on your path to give you the deathslap or not. Starting as a farmer in a small village to raiding millitary bases fully armored, while you felt every step towards your almost "godlike" powers compared to the zombies. It didnt made the story weaker, but maybe I am just waay to deep in nostalgia:D
All in all its a pretty fun game, not very mechanical, but still enjoyable, especially if you pay attention to the settings, even though they are poorly designed, you kind of had to feel this game and imagine what they tried to design:D
This game is actually quite good. It had a robust online offering with mods and custom maps available. It was pretty amazing when it came out considering games like Left 4 Dead weren't out yet. I consider this and The Walking Dead Survival Instinct to be 2 of the most under rated zombie experiences in gaming.
I enjoy BrainBread but I have never played "They Hunger". I liked Contagion though. I also liked the PS3 Walking Dead game that was an FPS. I have no shame. lol.

The game is borderline brilliant, a real avant garde video game as obviously dated as it appears on the surface. It's a strange & quite creepy experience & the reason I bought my first original Xbox. A solid & reasonable review compared to the vast jaded ones out there, very good mate.
I remember the multiplayer being surprisingly good in this. And that the first level made me super nervous, even if it wasn't actually THAT scary.

Nope that's just called Body Count.
This game is SO much more than just the base story. The real gems are the 100's of custom made maps. There are deathmatch and ctf ones, but the co-op survival ones were fantastic and usually included modded weapons and inventive new mechanics.
Yes, the games graphics and ai aren't much to sneeze at, but me and my friends spent DAYS playing this game in the early 2000's before L4D dropped. Good times, man.
Can't believe you didn't mention the corn field in the second level. That shit was TENSE when I first played it, having just the shitty carbine. Also, the multiplayer was really good. You had to defend the neighbour's farmhouse with limited supplies, and it was a shitload of fun. I remember everyone scrambling to find the guns before everyone else. I also find it weird that you didn't mention the kung-fu book.
Once you find the Karate Book it's practically a God Mode walk in the park.
what is funny is the zombie ai is so dumb, but in the movie, zombies remember what they did before they were infected. They were pretty smart for zombies.
I found this game did some things quite good, I really enjoyed taking it slow around some levels, listening for foot steps of the zombies so I would be ready for the zombie encounters. Also I liked if a zombie was sneaking up on you, you could hear it's foot steps giving you a chance to avoid it's attacks.
I remember this game scaring the shit out of me back in the day, and the multiplayer was really fun!
This game is really good. I don't understand how people can like movies like Machine Girl, but hate games like this one? The game is simple, yet well done. It's a budget title, but the atmosphere and the SLOW zombies are cool. Also I recommend playing the Dead Epidemic mod, which even improves a lot on this game.
I agree with this but, I have played this game very little. But the little I have played of this game, my main issue was that one shot to the head doesn't actually kill them. But that's my problem of it and I think a lot others have the same issue.
Zeithri I think that's to make you feel weak at the start of the game. Also, you have a small chance of blowing a zombies head off in the game.

Only fun part of this game was the multiplayer. There was this game mode made by this guy named trin. He created the last man invasion game mode which is invasion but when you die you turn into a zombie trying to kill your ex comrades. This was truly a big part of my childhood. I remember playing this back when I was in 5th grade. 2008-2011 were the years this community was active sadly, no one plays this game anymore.
I was there. We had an amazing community of modders, map makers, online players and zombie apocalypse enthusiasts. Servers were DM, INV (Invasion, a PvE horde mode) and LMS (Last Man Standing, PvP with infections).
There were very many custom maps, the weapons were modded and gameplay completely overhauled. The scene actually survived both Left4Dead and Killing Floor (a number of LotD players got into KF) but eventually it faded. Managing the servers was always a big issue.
I loved that mod! I used to play it for hours! Is the game completely dead online now? Including the Trin server?
I had fun with this game, its one of those bland but fun games. Who else broke the game with the kung fu attack?
I found the hidden book in the parking lot and had lots of fun punching zombies in the face... It was hilarious...

I loved obsessively playing this 3D horror zombie thriller when I was 16 years old and I ran it on my acer windows xp gaming desktop PC 24 / 7
In the Romero movies, you see zombies that are occasionally stupider than those in this game, in Dawn of The Dead the main characters were often able to run past the zombies rather than being cornered. (apart from that one elevator scene but you get my point)
I thought this game was rushed and wasted a LOT, but for what it became, I found it fun first time playing through... And I could even find players online which was pretty funny playing Deathmatch on Downtown.
get out of here, still bingeng the vids on this channel was not expecting this, i played this for ages during the 360 and ps3 era on an old xbox with emulation as it didnt get a UK release i actually enjoyed it a ton, it had that slow romero vibe and i loved it, was stoned out of my face though either way a surprise to see this among other forgotten treasures you feature
This is arguably one of those older games that for its time was actually really interesting, I only remember fond memories of this game, yes its got its quirks but you forgive them because its just like one of those games and the atmosphere was creepy as fuck, and I think it still holds up not as good as it was back then but there still is one at least.
It was a $20 title that was more fun than $60 titles at the time. One hilarious thing I remember, was at the start of the game, you spot a strange wondering around on your property, and instead of the objective saying "Investigate the Stranger", the objective was "Shoot the Stranger". I thought that was hilarious like "Farmer Bob don't f**k around! lol

Not sure was it this one, but we played some Romero Zombie game on multiplayer with my brother, it was quite fun "oh no, more under way!"

wow, Gman has been doing this a long time. absolutely love his modern formula but it's nice to see where he came from.
The thing that pissed me off the most with the game is the HORRENDOUS hit detection. Why does it take 5 shots from a revolver to blow a zombies head off yet, why is it that when i shoot a shotgun at the chest or head one leg blows off. This game has its decent moments here and there but the game felt laborious to get through.
The Kun-fu Fists "weapon" is the best.
When aiming you have to wait for the circle to get small too get a clean head shot it takes skill too play they don't want it too easy!

I remember when i was a kid i got this game cause "Zombies lol" i recall the weapon animations being pretty neat as they seemed to have alot more going on then other shooters of the day where it was usually all business no flash.
But the most vivid memory i have of this dumpy game was my friend playing and getting sick and tired of the "Zombie hiding on the other side of the door" gimmick the game uses constantly and he started just using the M16 as his way of opening all doors when he could.

I'd say my overall problem with the game is the continuity with the films; if this is supposed to be in the same universe, why is Jack surprised by zombies (as well as the anchorman for that matter)? By the film's lore, the zombie outbreak had been going on for decades.
Deathmatch with zombie npcs was pretty hype though
Honestly, the worst part to me is the fact that you seem to be able to 'kill' the zombies by shooting them in the body.
why do we always reference ninjas and pirates, there's only one major pirate franchise in movies and maybe one major video games...ninjas are even less prevalent in both genres. Zombies is a major genre, like post apocalyptic or even the the secret agent/operative genre...But maybe that's just code for ninjas and pirates anyway!!!!

I've played this game and beaten it many times now, and when I play Dead Island and Left 4 Dead, by comparing those games to this one, I feel like the graphics, realism, weapons and the zombies themselves are far more aggressive and harder to kill, therefore, Land of the Dead is a good game in all, but it can't beat Dead Island, Left 4 Dead or any other zombie game out there, it just can't match up to the same level of those games.

I bought this when it first came out, and what really made it shine(at its 20$ price point) was multiplayer, where you n a bunch of others fought off waves of undead which at the time, it was the only zombie game one could do that in
The single player is great for the first 1/3ish but as stated its just a regular fps after that without tension
But when the movie came out amd there was only 2 flavors of monster(sugar n non) and the only other zombie movie out near its tome was dawn of the dead(remake) it was actually great(online)
Idk if the servers work or if people play the multiplayer so it might be a game that was a 8/10(10/10 for price) thats lost that because its lost its amazing multiplayer n mod for multiplayer community

What I really find really funny about this piece-a-shit is the fact that the game got literally BANNED in Germany as it was REFUSED CLASSIFICATION by the German Classification Board despite not having been officially released in Mainland Europe, neither in Australia or New Zealand, as it was never submitted to the Australian Classification Board for a rating. I only wonder how this game got submitted to the GCB in the first place. Somehow, despite only having been released in the US, the CPVPV did get the hold of the game, and they APPROVED the ban, banning the game pretty much entirely in Germany.

Tbh the game itself is rushed and empty, but it's still somewhat enjoyable. It's also fun to speedrun it. But the reason you should get it is called "Dead Epidemic", a total conversion mod that improves every aspect of the game.

This game has some flaws especially with AI. I've just finished this game in hard 5 minutes ago. I rarely use guns and save them for vomiting and exploding zombies. Game Atmosphere is pretty good at times and had some jump scares. Everything is a bit scary until you get 'Kung Fu Fist' Book.
The main flaw I noticed is that there is no 'morning' time and the open city is always dark. Graphics looks very old but the gameplay compensate that.
Considering that it is a game released in 2005, I give it a 5/10 rating (the graphics and a bit stupid AI are the main problems). But still I like its gameplay and atmosphere.
I honestly think the Land of The Dead game, "Loot and Shoot," was scarier. And it was a dumb internet game on the movies website.
