I hate that queens that showcase their talents never do well in the talent show/variety show, like Gia did kabuki theater, Miranda did acrobatics in the air, Gala Varo and her pole dancing, Manila painted upside down, but sure the lip syncs to your own song are more impressive 🙄 Like yes lip syncing is a talent, but in a show where everyone HAS TO LIP SYNC it's frustrating to see it win the talent show

honestly it bothers me when rupaul gets annoyed/gives negative critiques about queens not knowing references from her time period (mirage/aja mixing 60s-70s clothing and hair in their runways) & will also give negative critiques when she doesn’t understand a reference from younger queens time (valentina’s eartha kitt snatch game as yzma from emperor’s new groove & plastique and jorgeous’ powerpuff girl makeover group) AND michelle critiquing queens to get rid of their branding for a few challenges (dawn’s elf ears, dusty ray bottoms dot makeup)
but i get its RUPAULS drag race 🤷🏻♂️

only solution to that will be RuPaul's and Michelle's loooooooooong overdue retirement. They are such out of touch dinosaurs at this point and it doesn't help frequently put some bubble headed tiktok celebs or obnoxious Disney channel starlets like Dove Cameron or Jojo Siva next to them.

My unpopular opinion: even if a queen is eliminated their runways should still be shown in future episodes, maybe in a reunion episode of maybe just with the other runways each episode, they shouldn’t have to spend so much money for their runways not to be shown

Probably not unpopular, just was thinking about it the other day- I hate when production has a challenge or lip sync song that has to do with something that is currently trending because by the time the episode comes out, that trend is long dead, so it just makes the episode or lip sync feel so dated and old (ex: Bloody mary tiktok version sped up being a lip sync song like-)

The random Let it Go lip sync in season 12 😂 but I’m naturally repulsed by Disney adults and that whole subculture so that’s another reason I was not gagging.
Non elimination only works for all winners for sure. Bianca also had a great idea that I really agree with- do it like a big brother type season, where nobody goes home but you also get to “live” with them behind the scenes for extra umph!

Absolutely!! It'd be so fun to watch them hang around lol. I think it'd be interesting if they brought some of the seasons eliminated queens on as judges. Many have such a good eye for design and it would bring them into the spotlight more

My unpopular opinion: modern seasons feel too much like a bunch of unapproachable rich celebrities who wear designer dresses. I really miss the old seasons where the queens were working class people who could be your neighbor and had to do their own stuff to wear.

My unpopular opinion: they should stop, or at least minimize, putting queens who have no performing experience on the show just because they have social media followings. It’s a disservice to the show.
Unpopular opinion 2: fewer sewing challenges has hurt the show. Drag race used to be about a queen’s abilities as much as it was about her looks. Having money to pay a designer isn’t a talent. This shift gives an unfair advantage to white queens from liberal families over queens of color from more conservative backgrounds.

The second one is absolute facts. Drag performers used to take skill, ingenuity in their art. Now, anyone with a good enough bank account and an amazon subscription can be a drag performer. Such a loss.

My unpopular opinion is that RuPaul shouldnt be the host of Snatch Game anymore... With younger and younger queens getting on the show, the gap between his catalog of references vs the queens' catalog of references is getting wider. They are bringing in people and characters that are of a newer generation that Ru is seemingly quite unfamiliar with, and it severely limits his ability to volley with the characters and understand their jokes. I think thats one of the main reasons why Snatch Game has been feeling awkward and lacking.
You should not be able to make up characters for Snatch Game. Period. If you don't like it, Sue Me. LOL
Everything is about making Ru laugh. I felt Snatch Game originally brought one of the oldest drag queen skills to the show; impersonation. Female impersonation gave drag queens a spot at decent stages for years before drag race. It shouldn't just be about being funny, it should also be about transformative makeup and solid voice impersonation. Sure the jokes should matter the most but you shouldn't be winning Snatch Game with completely made up characters.

Agreed, it’s about impersonation, they’re entertaining sometimes, but I love the parody and impersonation of real people more. I think something like doing the Mona Lisa, or Satan was fun too though, it was creative.
I agree with queens not spending thousands of dollars on runways. If you look at older seasons that had these legendary looks, they usually didn't cost a mortgage to make. The sad thing is that now it feels like it's too late to change that. The bar has already been set so high that it would be useless to try to put a cap on runway budgets
It's not even budgets. I could give you a big runway budget, you'd still not have the connections to get those outfits made. You need to have access to designers who can actually pull these off or be a great designer yourself

@@c.k.8585 With the Internet you can search for up and coming designers, it doesn’t need to be Versace. Until AS9 no queen has worn luxury clothes since 2021. They have stipends and clothing already from gigs the girls are fine
The only way to reel it back would be to switch it over to -Dragula- rules and have the competitors make their outfits for every week.
Or just make it an ad segment, with a Joan Rivers look-a-like shouting "Who are you wearing!?" at every contestant with the designer or brand name in the center of the screen.
Edit: Okay, Dragula was a bad idea, that has been compromised by money as well. So maybe Project Runway? Give them one day more per episode to make something? Didn't they feature a wall with fabrics in the early seasons?
@@larsg.2492 You think the Dragula Ghouls make their own outfits? I mean some of them do and many of them help but plenty of them are made by designers. I think the only rule is that they cannot be completely finished so they can show something in the workroom.
Regardless, more design challenges would help. Used to be that the makeover challenge was a design challenge. Of course that would also mean adding a couple of days to the schedule which costs a lot.
Here's the thing about lip syncing as a talent in the talent show. It absolutely is a talent that takes skill. But the question is, is it a talent that befits the talent show? I always thought of the talent show as a place to show off a talent that is unique to you and you would not otherwise get to show off on the season. Lipsyncing is something every contestant should be expected to know how to do when they get there. There are talent shows where I think it works (like Mirage's, for instance, that specific style of performance does set her apart and I'm glad she got a chance to show it off) but there's a LOT of lipsyncing to tracks on the show that doesn't exactly show anything unique about the performer.
HARD agree! Being able to lipsync is basically a prerequisite on the show, and if you can't do it, you're likely going home. If it's the bare minimum, it's not a talent and shouldn't be showcased during the talent show.
sometimes i do think it has it's place.... there's very captivating performers like sasha who you can tell are leagues apart and have a genuine particular talent AT lipsyncing.... but overall it's definitely come to feel like an easy thing for queens to do just to be at least safe LOL
@@beastren sasha also has something that sets her spart, that ponytail spin and seemless transition btw poses(??). Mirage is similar in that sense, but it's clacking not a ponitail. But most of the time we see just regular degular dancing. Even Kween Kong this time showed some hip hop moves and lifted a dancer up lol that's great that memorable it's gaggy.
I very much agree, for performers who still show something unique in their performance it definitely still has a space in the talent show, but if you're just going to do a lipsync performance without anything unique it should immediately put you in the bottom
My unpopular opinion: makeover challenges are some of my favorite challenges and the bad judging isn’t a reason to get rid of it

Makeover challenges are some of the best episodes as long as you turn it off just before the judging starts.
I agree with the first part.
The original principle of the makeover is really nice. When it first started they focused on bringing in members of marginalized communities, such as gay military, activists, etc. and the episode is meant to be a learning moment and a kumbayah for everyone to smile at. There are still elements of that when they talk about family and such these days, but it’s like Drag Race recognized they can’t waste a double save on the same challenge every season but they still want the Emmy and the feel good moments, so judging takes a back seat.

Regarding the Sasha point, i feel like at this point is almost risky to go in the show with a huge reputation cause yknow the show loves to do a "queen with great expectations not rising to them and flopping" and damaging their name, also using Ginger as an example of the queens always doing camp to songs was crazy cause i genuinly feel she does it the best lol of ALL the queens that do that they choose the worst option xd
Ginger do camp because she is incapable of doing something else..Drag Race ALWAYS help her choosing songs that she can camp and win.....

@fki3nxir ok, but on the other hand, queens don't get to choose their songs, like they'd do "in real life". Like, they have an assigned song for the week and they have to perform no matter what. So I don't blame them going for the route they do best. How many queens we watched dancing frantically and doing random splits to a song that had a completely different mood? Like, I'm sure a dancing high-energy queen like Anetra or Jorgeous would only choose high-energy dancing songs in their shows, just like other queen would only choose campy songs and so on...Personally watching a queen dancing gets tired quite fast. Unless they pull out some stunt-y, incredible moves, it's pretty much the same four dancing moves at the end of the day. While a song that's performed ironically, with camp, is funny, entertaining and unexpected.
Agree soooo hard on the overabundance of girl group challenges. My unpopular(?) opinion is DR needs to bring back creative, unique challenges like making the queens get strangers on the street to do stuff for points. So fun
The show is so big now that the days of being able to have the queens out on the street selling cherry pie or pulling stunts is over. If a bundle of queens was out on the street during prospective filming times some redditor would catch it all and it’d be spoilers akimbo!
Canada’s Drag Race has some really fun and inventive mini-challenges. Get whoever is creating those and let them create the main challenges, darn it!

I think a big reason people “disagree” with Mimi in her fights is just because her side doesn’t have any iconic lines to it. She didn’t have the sugar daddy rant, Raven’s monologue, Tammie being Tammie. She was set up to lose, she’s remembered as losing the fights.
There should be a MAXIMUM that queens can spend, and not go over. Or, the production should give them a certain amount and they can’t spend more than that. Or all queens can spend x amount on top of the money given.
I think it would allow for more even runways.
I feel a lot of queens would refuse this and lie about how much they spend but I agree

I completely agree that queens should get a basic stipend for outfits on the show they can go over, I think they did this for all stars 9? The fact that the show requires immense privilege and wealth is ridiculous when Rupauls Drag Race can easily afford an outfit stipend. Sometimes runways don't even air for some reason even if they're filmed, which feels like theres always an automatic loss

Unpopular opinion: Less significant and easily overlooked queens should have a higher chance of getting an All stars presence more than the same popular lineup of queens getting all the WOW spots. Id rather see an underrated and a queen whose insignificant by the fanbase's standards show off their full potential or have the opportunity for that, rather than seeing like actual finalists or literal 3rd time returners who've had the opportunity to show their full package on the show before.
I get that "its supposed to be all stars, not some stars" and i understand there is a significant entertainment value in casting popular queens, but i do personally stand by my point.
They won't have a choice about casting second tier queens soon. They already had to get rid of eliminations and the isolation after filming (they get to have their phones etc) and that still won't be enough for a lot of queens that are already getting enough coin without doing those long shoot days that DR has
god no, All Stars as a title is already diluted beyond parody by having all those bottom of the barrel queens make their comebacks. If anything I would only have an All Star season every third year and then only places 2-5 of the last three seasons get an invite back.
Well..... the most annoying thing for me is the global all stars favoritism for UK, USA and down under it's really annoying

I mean, If we need to be fair: I feel like Ru was not ready to host a Season of this magnitude... They didnt research AT ALL to try to understand these girls cultures (Miranda and Athena were clearly eliminated by her trying to save Drag "she knows about"). They should given the Hosting to Brooke, or even to Nicky or Grag Queen, so maybe we could get a more fair run.
Anyway justice for the non-english speaking franchise queens of this Season, they will have a harsh run...
@letsdoit9183 completely agree! It's also really easy to tell that Ru and production have no idea how popular, beloved, and talented queens are outside of the Ru-led seasons. I think Gala is a prime example here. She's a popular queen who is extremely talented, has a wonderful eye for fashion, and is one of the best performers in the franchise. Yet they disregard her because they're worried that the general audience won't root for her because she isn't from one of the "main" franchises. Eva, Nehellenia, and basically every non-English speaking franchise representative also fits this mold. It's wild to think that production genuinely thought we wouldn't connect with certain queens or side with them just because they aren't from a more "mainstream" season.

Another point is that just feels like they're trying to get rid of the girls who can actually get their "faves" in trouble (Like, competitively - They eliminated some strong girls, right before their "Challenge to Shine, and divided the wins between Rugirls, even tought others did better). For some reason, I feel like they already decided the Top 4 from the start, and It is going to be the 3 Rugirls + Tessa / Pythia.

It's not like she's maliciously putting them down, she just doesn't give them the same attention as the English speaking countries.

i'm a snatch game defender till the day i DIE. i think there is stuff the show can do to get better performances. when they do a girl group challenge or rusical they have choreographers (or queens who are dancers who can teach them the choreo). they don't just put them on the stage and ask them to dance. when they do a roast they usually get a professional comedian to hear their jokes before they go on stage. idk it's not the best comparison but my point still stands. queens need more than "what did you have for breakfast this morning"
Snatch Game episodes need to have improv guest judges like, yesterday. We can keep Ru and his old man sense of humor, but having the guest panel be just the Pit Crew or random ass celebrities is infuriating. Ru literally stormed off set because Gigi Hadid and Chanel Iman were giving him less than nothing to work with and couldn’t even read off their cards convincingly, and they still haven’t learned their lesson
To be quite honest, I completely agree with the Mimi opinion. It's sorta a situation of "Worst person you know made a great point" where she's acting very abrasive and unlikeable but when you just look at the facts she's in the right both times
The All Stars fight is always insane to me when i watch the full scene. Alexis was mad about a work issue that happened way before the show, Mimi tries to defend herself then asks why it's even being brought up, Raven randomly insults Mimi's popularity with the "Mimi Imfurst? MIMI IMFURST was number 3 in the voting? I could not believe it" bit, and then everyone just piles on for literally no reason. I understand completely why she got upset and eventually left the room, she basically was saying "Hey can we not fight about or discuss this workplace issue from months ago when we should be focusing on the show instead?" and got turned into one of the fandom's favorite punching bags/memes.
the shooting and editing team really did get dirty by trying to get her at her worst moments and editing to make everything she did seem obnoxious to people
She deserved to win that one stupid boobarella 2 acting challenge all the way back in season 3, she killed her role and they edited it to make it seem like she was ‘too’ campy for boobarella 2 in space lmao.
6:26 Remember the "I DON'T WANT H&M" rant from RPDR UK season 2? XD Or how Ru said she expects the level of Plastique Tiara for AS? I doubt production will give a single cent for new outfits. I mean, they don't even pay for plane tickets to drag con (while many cosplayers get at least that for Comic Con San Diego.)

I have hope with the runway cost situation. Plastique went above and beyond with her runways, and still didn’t make top 3 despite being a very likely choice.
To me, this discourages future competitors from spending too much on runways.
I’m GLAD. Queens shouldn’t be going into debt to appease the shallow drag race audience who just want a few seconds of aesthetic pictures to gawk at on social media.
People say Snatch Game is tired so hear me out: Celeb impersonation improv challenge that is not a Snatch Game: For example 'Stars in the Space' where you have to be a celeb as an astronaut, or 'Jurassic Stars' where a group of celebs have to survive during a dinosaur era

I think the solution to "snatch game fatigue" would be to replace snatch game for a season or two with another game show parody challenge, like snatch game jeopardy or family feud. Not saying get rid of snatch game completely, just try something else. Also maybe try making a character instead of impersonating celebrities like in bossy rossy.
Also my unpopular opinion (and what Pablo means, I think) is that queens need to go back to the pure nasty villainnessness of it all, like in the first few seasons. That's what good TV is, good campy villains and their insane behaviour. And audiences today need to learn (or be taught!) how to understand that as entertainment characters instead of genuine personalities!
I think it only works if it comes natural. The examples cited, MIB, Luxx, Plane Jane, Fierce, just did not work that well for me because I just felt they went in with a plan to stir up drama because after so many seasons of this show, queens know that if you give production what they need, they'll keep you longer. But we also have queens who convince me they are being real on camera; e.g. Morphine or since we mentioned Fierce, Melinda Verga.
Unfortunately the fandom being so nasty and abusive towards queens seems to be, understandably, putting them off
It does make for great TV, but the fan reactions to villain queens can be so bad that it can make a queen literally quit drag. The biggest example is Jaremi Carey, formerly known as Phi Phi O'Hara.
@@jbshiva865 I know queens are often right to blame the edit but damn Phi Phi gave them the material. And it is different to say very shady things with DO very shady things. We saw Phi Phi sabotaging people in both her runs. I know for most people she was a villain because back then everyone loved Sharon but imo what made her the villain was what she did with Jiggly.

My problem is, the talent should be something special. We will see every single queen lipsynch anyways. Probably more than once. So if that's what they also do for the talent show I'm always a bit annoyed.

Okay but lip syncing is a staple of drag. Drag race featuring lip syncing as a talent would be like a fire department hosting a talent show and the firefighters all demonstrate putting their gear on really fast. It's impressive, but kinda inherent in the job.
I'd like to note that if the talent is specifically DANCE that's well and good. But a drag queen doing a park and bark is not a talent.
I got a lot of unpopular opinions but here’s one: bring back ballads for lipsticks. When was the last time we had one? Season 8? The one with ChiChi v Thorgy? Yeah stunts, splits, dips and all that are great but gimme the face, the emotion, a powerful move just standing there like Latrice did in her season (don’t remember which song was but there is one). I’d like to see Kacey Musgraves’ Rainbow or Madonna’s Live to Tell for a lipsync for your life.
While I do agree that it may hurt the chances of legendary queens coming back since Roxxxy didn't win, I hate this idea that a queen is "owed" a season because they're an OG or fan favorite. We're literally seeing that play out with the favoritism of Alyssa in GAS and how they're disregarding a lot of talent to finally get her that crown. Yes, Roxxxy did very well and could've won that season, but Angeria did just as well and also deserved to win. People are really quick to point out that Angeria didn't necessarily deserve the win in the talent show, but disregard the fact that Roxxxy was given a star and had a very controversial win with the makeover. It wasn't a complete domination by any means, and if that keeps queens like Detox away then so be it.

As good as she looked, the only thing that i got from that look was that she has money and connections. To me it’s much more exciting to see a queen put a look together herself where i can see the creative output. Otherwise they’re just a mannequin wearing looks put together by someone else

They could do this by making more runway's design challenges. They could even do a design runway the same week as another challenge. (This would add more days to shooting though)

Unpopular opinion: a challenge win shouldn’t act as an immunity during a lip sync for your life. So many queens have clearly lost the lip syncs but stayed because they had wins. If the lip sync is supposed to be the deciding factor, the better lip syncer should win.

non elimination should be kept for all winners seasons. It's just bad TV, there's no tension, the season doesn't develop or change in any way when the cast is the same throughout, and it's GOOD to get to see more of the front runners as the season goes on- non elimination just leads to a whole bunch of time spent on queens everyone knows isn't going to win.
I would LOVE to see some kind of costume spending limit, or better- a return to the old school drag race seasons where they didn't KNOW what they were packing for and had to just bring a bunch of their own drag, and maybe one or two custom pieces for the final episode/finale. Leave the planned, OTT runways for all stars when the queens have the budget.
Non-elimination would work for a spin-off show. Something with a smaller cast, maybe 6 episodes, and is MEANT to be lower stakes!
Idk if this is unpopular or not but I think making up a character or giving life to an inanimate object or non-human for snatch game should be banned. Mama that’s not celebrity impersonation. I think that’s part of why snatch game is lackluster now, because if you can just completely make something up then what’s the challenge? Like what is separating that from those random mini challenges where they have to make up a character?
I’m also borderline on historical characters too since you can also just do whatever, but of course we have Symone’s iconic performance as Harriet Tubman so idk. i think for the runways to be the caliber that they have been in recent seasons, the runway should be worth more in terms of placement for the episode. if you had a mid performance challenge but an amazing runway it should mean something. the runway needs to have more weight than gagging the viewers.
I don't know if this is unpopular, but Global All Stars should have been a tournament with six slots for each continent. Each continent has a regional drag race, where the winner moves onto the Global All Stars. That way it's not just a European/English competition and there's actual diversity lol

Not sure whether this is unpopular but I don't think on all stars queens should have to reveal what lipstick they chose (when they don't win the lip sync) to the other queens. We the viewers should be able to see but there'd be way more strategy and I think interesting drama involved not knowing. Otherwise they just have to pick the safe choice they think everyone is gonna pick. This is especially annoying when people say who they voted for in the group lipstick voting, it ruins the point of it being anonymous!
Big agree on the track record part. Fans will scream all season about how bad the judging is, then at the end be like "x queen deserves to win cuz track record😊"
I personally tend to view iconic moments, challenge performances, etc, as more important. i.e., Yvie Oddly got closer to the crown after that iconic "Sorry Not Sorry" lipsync when she literally *bombed* snatch game, than anyone who did well that ep (can't even remember any of the performances myself). Also in AS5 some ppl were saying Miz Cracker deserved to win cuz of her track record, when i honest to God can't remember a single thing she did in the entire season (other than get destroyed by Roxxxy & lowkey Morgan😭) & the only iconic moments belonged to Shea, Jujubee, and honestly Alexis (who got mega-screwed by the format change imo).
That's the other issue with track record, not only deserving/undeserving wins, but quality wins. Sometimes the challenge is just bad - bad song for a girl group challenge, bad prompt for a makeover, bad script for an acting challenge, nobody particularly shines in a snatch game, and somebody just *has* to win. Not all official "wins" are created equal🤷🏽♀️

Agree on all points. Speaking of Yvie, her Queens Everywhere performance was also iconic, and yet she was rewarded no win. So the track record folks endlessly say how she shouldn’t have won the season with only one win. We all know she won that episode, but that doesn’t seem to count for anything because it wasn’t an official win.
And yet what do people think about when they think about season 11? Sorry Not Sorry. That performance absolutely should be taken into consideration even though she was in the bottom for snatch game. You can’t get much more iconic than that performance.

And my unpopular opinion (that I didn't have time to send on twitter) is that Gottmik's AS9 package was *mostly* less interesting that her S13 package. She leaned too hard into being a model and left the fun and the concepts people loved about her runways behind. Also, most of her runway and challenge wigs were just boring slick flat hair which makes me feel sad because the non-flat-wigs were INCREDIBLE, so she knows how to serve a fun and impressive wig, making the collection of skinny fashion week scoochy dresses (and flat wigs (and mostly bland mugs)) such a weird decision.
And I'm saying this comparing to what she served in S13 - we had concepts, different wigs, camp, colorful runways. AS9 she served ridiculously well *in my unpopular opinion!!!!* in just 3-4 episodes. Compared to Plastique whose runways always felt like actual events, always big, always more-is-more, always impressive, I think my great expectations took the best out of me (and me alone, cause this is pretty unpopular, I'm aware).
Idk if this is unpopular but if a black queen acted half as evil as Plane Jane they wouldn't get a modicum of the grace she got from the Drag Race fandom

Here’s my unpopular opinion: There’s no point in having a finale where the last two queens lip sync for the crown, only for the producers or Paul (yes, Paul) to hand it to the queen who did better throughout the season. If the winner is already decided based on past performance, then the lip sync just feels like a pointless formality. Every queen deserves a fair shot at the crown.

I disagree. I think Aja did great but Dela still was better. The same thing that can be said about campy queens can be said about the queens who can dance and do the shablams: it has to fit the song. Queens need to adapt.

writing is a talent, and writing music and lyrics is a huge talent. if the queens are bringing original song lip syncs for their talent show or singing an original song live and they actually wrote it, that should be part of the judging.

the fandom has a serious problem with anti-fat bias. all else being equal, larger queens have to do twice as much work to appease the fans half as much as smaller queens. and it extends to fandom-adjacent figures, too- like Drag Race UA-camrs. (and, speaking of MiMi, i don't think she would be near as hated if she was a thinner queen.)

In Brazil, we have this reality show called Corrida das Blogueiras inspired by drag race, but every challenge they put the criterios and standarts of what will be judge in the challenge. When u dont have this, its much more easy to give the judgement that u want and place queens in wrong positiona. Also, this colaborate to the audience have another opinion because in fact: whats being judge?

Re: Snatch Game - the snatch game from this week's episode of DRPH3 was absolutely iconic, one for the ages, and I sure would rather have Snatch Game than scripted acting challenges with piss poor writing and references that are either irrelevant or not executed well enough.

I think when the show tries too hard to be wholesome and make challenges specifically to show that theyre very accepting and positive it always just comes out as cheesy and boring. When the queens fight or are funny/shady organically is the best part of dr and being shady shouldnt diminish the character of the queens and of the show
Lipsyncing is a talent and I’d like to see them do a full choreographed piece while also lipsyncing. If you think they’re boring just say that but it’s def harder than it looks

It's definitely a talent but it's insanely boring to watch through a "talent show" where 8/10 contestants are just doing *yet another* lip-sync and then the one contestant that shows something that is outside of the box gets absolutely nothing for it. I do absolutely believe that lip syncing requires training, talent and a strong creative side too, but I also agree that lip syncing to an original song should be banned from the talent show episode
It's so funny to me that people in this fandom seem to think that only catty queens = good tv. First, "good tv" is completely subjective and secondly, as Runner pointed out, queens with any bit of personality, catty or not, can make for a fun viewing experience.
