20:40 After receiving advice on how to throw sweeper from Bauer, Shinichi Onuki pitched 7 scoreless innings with no hits, no walks, and 6 strikeouts in a minor league game. Bauer is the perfect mentor.
Some long-winded language notes about gloves: The normal Japanese word for "glove" is 手袋 (てぶくろ/tebukuro) which uses the kanji (Chinese characters) for "hand" and "bag." But because it's a baseball glove and it's associated with foreign culture, "baseball glove" uses the English word "Glove" usually written in Katakana as "グラブ/gurabu" since Japanese doesn't have a schwa vowel sound like "love" or "the" and doesn't distinguish between Vs and Bs in foreign loan words. Google probably translated "gurabu" as "grab" rather than glove because it's closer to the actual pronunciation. Sometimes it'll be written as "グローブ/guro-bu," which google would probably translate as "globe."
About 5-10 years ago, I never thought I’d say “Trevor Bauer is one of my favorite UA-camrs” Keep up the good work, playing in Japan has to be an absolute dream❤
I thought MLB clubs and Rob Manfred made a really stupid call on not giving Trevor a chance to return to the major, but now I am actually loving this, maybe God of baseball sent Trevor to Japan so we are so blessed to see a really talented player's life and career in both American and Japanese leagues. Love these videos and really look forward to his career in NPB as successful as in MLB
Trevor, I’m not a baseball player but you have made me an Baystar’s fan! And I’m totally digging your style and your approach towards life. I’m Japanese who grew up in the states (who now lives in Yokosuka, Kanagawa. next city to Yokohama). I teach and coach swimming at the us naval base in Yokosuka. We are both involved in different sports but I respect your professionalism. Thank you for being great ambassador from America. To me, Both USA and Japan are home county and you have made me proud of both cultures. And Japanese people loves you!
As a Japanese American, I’m so stoked that Bauer is giving this a go. Learn the language and just be a good person. That’s all you can do I’m rooting for you! 頑張ってください❗️
I stopped watching Bauer as his content just kinda wasn’t interesting me for a while, but once he started going to Japan, a foreign culture that I’m not aware of, I got hooked right back in

8:39 on “Grab” vs. “Glove”. These are what we call “Katakana Words” where we mimic the sounds of foreign words with Japanese characters. This is why words that did not originally exist in Japanese such as Tomato is トマト (To-ma-to). The interesting thing with these words is the fact that it’s based on how they interpreted it back then, which results in interesting cases like the word “White” in English being ホワイト (Ho-wa-i-to) because whomever heard that word back in the days heard it that way. It’s a similar case for the word “Glove”. This word was commonly pronounced/written as グローブ (Gu-ro-o-bu) initially. However, in 1998 the NHK Pronunciation Accent Dictionary, which most TV broadcasters base their pronunciation, decided to use グラブ (Gu-ra-bu) as their interpretation of the English word “Glove”. To adapt to this most manufacturers now use the word グラブ instead, but since the Japanese pronunciation of グラブ sounds more like “Grab” than “Glove”, you encounter this slight difference in translation.
@@BillCherno86 There is a Japanese word for glove (手袋, Tebukuro, literally "hand bag" lmao), but the loan word グローブ is more commonly used. The reason why these loan words (外来語, Gairaigo) exist was historically for things or words that simply did not exist in Japanese ("Pan" (bread) from Portuguese is a good example), and is now more commonly used to be fashionable or who knows why, even most Japanese could not explain why certain loanwords are used.

I love how Mr. Bauer has meshed with his teammates, coaching staff, etc. He appears genuinely happy to be in Japan, which is not always the case with foreign players who have moved to NPB. Some foreign players go to Japan and never integrate themselves with their teammates or even make an attempt to enjoy the local culture. They make a bubble about themselves rejecting any Japanese influence, and by and large, appear miserable or at least disinterested while playing there. After watching all of Mr. Bauer's Japan videos, I am very impressed about how he and his agent have gone above and beyond trying to integrate themselves into the entire experience, not only the hard work and dedication required to be a professional player (training, culture integration, and voluntary fan interactions), but also their videos showing them out and about in Yokohama and Tokyo. Mr. Bauer's critique of the sporting goods store was especially interesting. There were two moments in previous videos that really stuck out to me. First, Mr. Bauer gave a shout-out to a US Navy sailor who was close to transferring back stateside whom he met (meant a lot to me because I served in the US Navy at Yokosuka Naval Base from 1995-2005). Second, a young boy traveled with his father all the way from the states to see Mr. Bauer play. Mr. Bauer actually came out of the team facility to meet the boy and speak with him. Both examples show class! I wish you great success on and off field and I hope you enjoy your time in Japan.

Trevor, bro, I got tears watching this I'm in my early 40s & I've followed your journey close since your first season pitching for UCLA. Awesome job. Got into your stuff from Eric’s channel and instantly became a fan. Keep up the good work. I’m now starting to save a lot of money to go out and watch you pitch. Really glad to see a star pitcher play again.
I watched Trevor's Japanese debut game on May 3rd on BS TV, so I really enjoyed this video. The Japanese translation subtitles appear with a bit of a delay, but after changing the device, the symptoms improved. I'm looking forward to next one.
The session with your teammate is just genius. So crazy that you know what to look for, how to adjust it and the technique to do so. You said you want to give kids an inspiration to play ball, you’re living up to it. You’re a stud bro. Happy to have you a part of the game.
It gets better if you look up that teammates recent start in the minors, 7 IP, no hits, no walks, 6 Ks. Idk how much he was able to implement Trevor's instruction, but he definitely got either motivation or technique out of it for sure
Loving the glove reviews! I understand the sentimental value you’ve assigned to the wagyu JB. We as fans of your channel feel the same! You need to show the reaction from the lucky fan who receives that orange glove!
When talking about Japanese glove brands Wagyu JB (and Katana) rarely comes up so it's a nice thing a foreign player is actually giving them a try instead of bringing over a Rawlings, a Wilson, or a 44 (although 44 is pretty cool too).
Hey Trevor. Love your content and congrats on your big league win. Been amazing watching you adjust to diff lifestyle and your usual in-depth sharing of the game. I’ve been super surprised on the stadium / fan experience, big thank you for sharing that with us too!
Great job, that was a solid game!! I only got to watch the first three innings on the stream because that is all they gave us, but it was awesome to get to see you play!! On a side note, seeing Eric's reaction to your bunt was laugh out loud funny! 🙂
Trevor always hit the mound with energy, and bring so many great contents to the fans, no matter what league he’s playing in. That’s why he’s my favorite player.
Hey Trevor! I randomly ran into you at an Southwest gate last year, I was wearing an Astros Space City hat. So random I had just caught up on your youtube videos. Really happy to see ya pitch again.
thank god for youtube, hope its keeping you connected to all the US fans but great to see you having a blast over there and making the best of this situation.

Congrats on your first Japanese Major League game. Looks like a lot of fun and an almost surreal dream. Thank you for your vids, been a rough month...health failing, lost my job of 12 years, and these videos take me away to somewhere else for at least a little while.
This UA-cam channel is one of my favorites. I love baseball, and my favorite pitch type is the screwball, & knuckleball and it's a shame this pitch is dying from baseball, I think Trevor Bower should be the one to bring it back
Brother I appreciate what you do with these youtube videos. The insights from when you where in the states to now in Japan from the club house, different stadiums, to how everything works being a professional ball play. But the best thing you do is showing the insights on training and how to be a better pitcher. If I had this type of insights to when I was in high school no telling how I would have ended up. I went and played in college but couldn't stay healthy. The things you are doing on here I hope kids or parents are watching.
Your doing a great job Trevor and you look relaxed and happy in Japan. Show the world what you've got my man. You are a phenomenal pitcher. By the way that bunt looked great. You've got it down to an art.
It’s mind blowing to me why ur not in the mlb right now. Grew up in NYS and have been a Yankee fan for 30 years. But still have always followed your career. You’re one of my favorite players. I’m glad you are still pitching. It’s what you were meant to do bro.
Choice. His contract with the Dodgers had a clause where if he played for another team he's lose $22M. So, he went to Japan for 1yr (for $4M), thus ensuring he gets the $22M, plus the $4M from the 1yr contract, and also cross out a bucket-list item by playing in Japan. He'll be back in the MLB after this (assuming a team wants to sign him). All-in-all, smart move on his part.
trev is such a great teacher he tells you what you need to do and you have fun learning from him im so happy that my passion for baseball has been worked through by someone willing to share his secrets to success
Okuni, the minors pitcher he was working on axis of rotation apparently just pitched a really good game in the minors. Idk how much of Trevor's instruction he was able to implement in the short time, but it looks like he definitely got something, either motivation or new technique that really helped him in his start!
Thank you so much for giving us this look into you’re life and all of this invaluable information. I played college ball and now coach little league and we love you man!!!
The heroes of the game segment actually brought a tear to my eye. So many of us in Los Angeles miss you, Trevor, but it's great to see you thriving in Japan.
No politics, just baseball. I have not enjoyed anything about baseball so much in years. I am going to have to figure out how to get Japanese baseball.
I'm from Huntington Beach and been to many Angels games, plus LB State Dirtgabags, so it's cool to see kind of a local (UCLA) in Japan. I love how you show the insider perspective that most people don't get to see, even in America.
Trevor Bauer needs to be a MLB pitching coach when he retires. He is so analytical it's awesome. He does more.for the game of baseball than any other human being! Love ya man! Keep killing it! Free Trevor Bauer now! Lift small bunt the ball😂
This is what baseball needs. I’m a high school coach in a very small community in Idaho. Kendrick High School. I played in college and understand hitting and defense very well, but these blogs are amazing for understanding some of the metrics in pitching, and the work that goes into being ready at a high level. Thank you for this and I will continue watching
I think we can all agree that this page is the best vlog series out of any sports vlog platform. Baseball has so much down time and Trevor takes advantage of the down time to teach. Him being a player and myself being somone that works on the other side producing live sports/entertainment tv. People don’t realize the day to day we go through. I created a series teaching everyone about the broadcast side of sports and I love seeing Trevor take advantage of the down time he has to teach a day in the life. Also I will stick to the media getting access to the locker rooms in America. Not sure why Japan doesn’t do that either. Maybe because of the dirt/shoe rule Trevor talked about! What Trevor is making is better tv then any other sports program in the world. Thank you Trevor, miss seeing you walk around dodger stadium with you.
Trevor I love this for you I was a big fan before the bs through the bs and still after, and I love how you continue to keep us at home that don’t have the opportunity to always watch baseball in the game. Much love and thank you ❤
Let's go! I loved seeing the highlights that were put on youtube of this game. One of my favorites was actually the steal attempt that your catcher threw out at 2nd. The fumble and then the shortstop being right there to back up the 2nd baseman had me on edge and it was so impressive I went back to watch it like 4 or 5 times! It was also intense when you were pitching against the big guy, dude looked like if Eric could actually hit tanks. That final pitch against him and your roar of victory was like a return to form for you, really proud of ya. Also your ex teammate scoring a HR off of you was really funny, I could imagine you joking with them like, "Hey man, my first Majors game back and you couldn't have gone easy on me?" Great game, man.

@njyaj09 Yeah it was in this video.
the US media is stupid, full of liars, corrupt and reports to one political party . If the MSM says it's raining today, Im going out in shorts and sandals..
@@njyaj09 Trevor showed his sword celebration from his last minor league appearance but he did not show one from his first major league start - he only does the sword celebration for check swing strike outs only - he does not do the sword celebration for all strike outs
Loved the sweeper session with the other pitcher. Your knowledge on physics is insanely valuable to anyone who listens.
You make some of my favourite content right now, always look forward to ur next upload. Loved seeing how you helped your teammate with his slider was so incredibly insightful.
Trevor, bro, I got tears watching this
I'm in my early 40s & I've followed your journey close since your first season pitching for UCLA.
I will never forget your dirty sweat stained faded dashboard hats haha
Thanks for always standing up for everything that you believe in & for always appreciating your chances.
That is a very rare thing these days.
Thanks for helping some of us baseball freaks get through the whole co(n)vid lockdown tyranny we faced, but most importantly thanks for sharing your journies & knowledge.
So happy seeing you being appreciated by hardcore fans.
Thanks, Japanese fans, for giving Trevor the appreciation he deserves
You've got major problems Jason

So, why do you say that?

I loved how you shared tips with your teammate to work in his pitches. Thank you for this insight!

You didn’t even watch the video before posting this😭
Awesome job.
Looks like an all star game with all the festivities....Japan is awesome!

Loved the little dig in at the Max Scherzer suspension lol.
trevor keep it u man all your true fans are rooting for you forever! love to see u prosper man
Trevor always hit the mound with energy, and bring so many great contents to the fans, no matter what league he’s playing in. That’s why he’s my favorite player.

June in Japan is the rainy season
When it ends, it will be extremely hot and humid.
Better prepare for that.
I'm Japanese, and I'm not a Yokohama fan but Trevor Bauer is so fun to watch
he tells us whats it like to be a pro
keep up the vlog
Hey Trevor! I randomly ran into you at an Southwest gate last year, I was wearing an Astros Space City hat. So random I had just caught up on your youtube videos. Really happy to see ya pitch again.
Definitely enjoy watching the channel, thank you for making baseball fun again Trevor.
Great first game in the big leagues! Keep it up this week!!!
thank god for youtube, hope its keeping you connected to all the US fans but great to see you having a blast over there and making the best of this situation.
This is absolutely amazing, so much fun watching….thanks Trevor keep crushing it!
Yes!!! Awesomeness!! Loved the interview in the stands and your UA-camr answer. I grew up in a small town 5hrs away from nearest MLB team. Could never dream of having access like this or even meeting a player. And at best an autograph. You taking us along with you is very important and I love it.
May your success in Japan continue. Seeing you navigate a new culture reminds me of my efforts when I first met Japan. Ganbatte!
When I tell you what, watching these videos just give me a warm feeling. I love these vlogs
You seem pretty happy out there, I'm glad. I think I will put "attend a Japanese baseball game" on my bucket list.
Congrats on your first Japanese Major League game. Looks like a lot of fun and an almost surreal dream.
Thank you for your vids, been a rough month...health failing, lost my job of 12 years, and these videos take me away to somewhere else for at least a little while.
Hope everything works out for you

Rayek, don't give up! Life is hard, but you got this! I hope nothing but positive vibes for you!💪
This UA-cam channel is one of my favorites. I love baseball, and my favorite pitch type is the screwball, & knuckleball and it's a shame this pitch is dying from baseball, I think Trevor Bower should be the one to bring it back
I'm looking forward to the next game in Niigata on 9 May!
Congrats Trevor. Love watching you succeed. Hate that no team would sign you here in the states but that’s their loss. Keep up the hard work.
Love these videos
You can tell Bauer loves it in Japan…deserves all the love
trev is such a great teacher he tells you what you need to do and you have fun learning from him im so happy that my passion for baseball has been worked through by someone willing to share his secrets to success
The NPB is perfect for you and I wish you much success on and off the field.
The heroes of the game segment actually brought a tear to my eye. So many of us in Los Angeles miss you, Trevor, but it's great to see you thriving in Japan.
Thank you for posting this Trevor. Your videos are awesome
No politics, just baseball. I have not enjoyed anything about baseball so much in years. I am going to have to figure out how to get Japanese baseball.
I loved how that the more time passes, the better you bunting got in the video. Practice makes perfect. Good luck on your future games!
I'm from Huntington Beach and been to many Angels games, plus LB State Dirtgabags, so it's cool to see kind of a local (UCLA) in Japan. I love how you show the insider perspective that most people don't get to see, even in America.
I love your videos man, thank you for everything!
Trevor Bauer needs to be a MLB pitching coach when he retires. He is so analytical it's awesome. He does more.for the game of baseball than any other human being! Love ya man! Keep killing it! Free Trevor Bauer now! Lift small bunt the ball😂
Real Trevor Bauer would message me.. fake Trevor Bauer pass
Trevor is killing it. Happy for his success.
I like how Trevor and his teammate had a moment holding the bears like a puppy.
The mascot Starman is a hamster 🐹. He has star-shaped face and pawpads!
