"Console title" fills me with so much nostalgia man; i started playing Terraria on Xbox 360 back in 2014, then switched to PC in 2016, sadly my PC broke in 2019, so i started playing on PS3, then upgraded to PS4 in 2020, which lead to me re-buying Terraria on PC just a few weeks ago in July this year. All the other title tracks are still good though, I just like the OG console one the most.
I've been thinking about how Terraria and Path of Exile have similiar plotlines. You humbly begin fighting against a corrupting magic force, and eventually descend into the "mountain" to fight a cthonic beast. While in POE you go on afterwards to fight the equivalent of the hallow in their world with innocence, the death of either the Wall of Flesh (POEs Nightmare) and Innocence in POE, this causes a disruption in the world and the forces of light and dark that were originally held back are able to rebel and wreak havoc on the planet again. Its a very similiar plot structure in order to introduce their NG+ concepts. These games also have very gnostic themes, similiar to Noita, where you begin a descent into the underworld but it doesn't just end there like a typical dungeon crawl, you are then forced to fight your way back up to Heaven ("As above, so below") and fight even the Gods of good. Thus you are able to bring a median compromise to the Earth, balance is constantly seen as the highest Good in a lot of post Tolkien fantasy. Just some interesting shower thoughts for this and other games.
