⚰️ ALCOY Cemetery: Exploring the SLEEPING CITY in All Saints

👉 In this video, you join me on a tour of the Alcoy Cemetery in Alicante, one of the most beautiful and fascinating cemeteries in Spain that has been part of the European Cemeteries Route since 2012.
Through the tourist route called "Alcoy, the Sleeping City", we explore the most outstanding funerary monuments of the cemetery and discover a sample of the history and funerary art that is hidden behind them.
We begin our tour in the area of pantheons where its eclectic and modernist designs stand out: historicist, art deco, art nouveau, rationalism.
Very close to the entrance is the mausoleum of Agustín Gisbert, awarded Best Architectural Monument in 2014. In this group, the sculpture in Nouveau Nouveau by Lorenzo Ridaura called "The Angel of Silence" stands out.
We highlight the impressive stained-glass windows inside and the tombstones and ornaments in cast iron.
The cemetery of Alcoy reflects the industrial society and architectural styles of the early twentieth century, applied to the world of the dead. We also explore the underground galleries, a unique example in Spain; with some eye-catching inscriptions; hypogea; the cenotaph and the mass graves.
You shouldn't miss the civil cemetery and its curious epitaphs, which reflect varied beliefs beyond Christianity.
