Yes, another 72-year-old here, female. I appreciate everyone being so articulate, 'cause I'm feeling a bit weepy tonite. If I were to start talking/writing too much, I'd probably start sobbing.
You see, I have been chronically ill since my early 30s and have a chronic, intractable pain disease as well. I've never let up on trying to do my best to get through all this with as much dignity and grace as God and I can muster at any given time. It's hard sometimes when that wellspring of love, hope, wisdom and strength starts drying up. I admit it.
But along came this blessed child, God's Grace among us. She takes nothing from me, but still gives me her heart, her understanding and her words. She can break through the darkness in my life with that quirky little voice, eventually turning my own heart and mind in a way that allows me to transcend the pain and suffering common to us all. Grace's music now reminds me to take this freely-given gift and pass it on to others.
I love you, Grace.
Jama Grant Thank you for sharing that. I’m sure Grace would want to meet you sometime someday and hold you for a moment. I hope you have some family and friends for the really rough days. I am 60 years old, and have been an amateur musician almost my entire life, beginning as a choir boy at 6 years old, progressed to rock and rock blues, as a teenager, and today, I am blues/rock vocalist, so I appreciate talent when I see it, regardless of the genre of music. Grace, you are perfection. I just love your music and most of all, your artistry. You are a game changer and I just love what you do so well.

Alan, even my two kids, who are 32 and 28 years old, are amazed that I have become such an avid fan of Grace's, but it is so rare to see such incredible talent, especially from what was just a 12 year old at the time. I predict greatness for Grace. She has an unbelievable future ahead of her and she is so deserving of that. If she is capable of those lyrics at 12 years old, what will she be delivering when she is 30? The mind boggles and I am hoping she one day come to South Africa, as if she does, I will the very first ticket buyer.
Interesting. There are things in life that bring joy and ease pain. Music is among them. For those like myself who are musicians and listeners of music, we have specific standards whatever they may be. We have likes and not so much. I tried something different tonight. I wanted to watch like a news program on TV and I had been listening to music all day. So instead of turning it off, I turned the music way down so I could concentrate on the TV. It was a very relaxing experience. Psychologically, I can't say exactly what was at work but the effect was I was able to do what I needed to do, like work or study, and use the music as a hint of background music. Very comforting. If you are listening to the absence of getting things done, try playing music from UA-cam or whatever and get your work done. I thought I'd add that here because watching music videos can be extremely addictive and this way you can still get necessary things done.
I am retired, so I now get the time to watch UA-cam, which is how I discovered Grace, as I never saw AGT back in 2016, far too busy in the kitchen as the head chef in my restaurant. I am so incredibly happy to have discovered such an incredible talent. And also very happy I now have the time to do things like watching talent on UA-cam. I have discovered some incredible people in the last few weeks, not just Grace, but Susan Boyle, Charlotte and Jonathan, Jackie Evancho, Laura Bretan, Beau Dermott, Calysta Bevier........ the list is endless. But of them all, Grace is just the most incredible thing ever. Unbelievable!
Being semi-retired myself, it is such a blessing that these kids and adults are bringing the music! Just like the old masters of the blues or folk, these kids are giving us of their inner selves and what they want to sing about. I have to say, it seems so healing and positive and that's music as a healing force.

well i am a 62 year old man when i was young certain pop star Marc Bolan captured my spirit and i have loved his persona and music always, even now years after his death, i never thought anybody else could do the same but this young girl as done just that so i know she is special and all the people like me will be able to enjoy the connection with her spirit for a life time

The acts of the child are real, simple, enjoyable, happy and charismatic, no artificial acts and movement, no concert dress code. She feels the audience with real feelings. It's simple, happy, laughter, everybody participates the songs, no distractions, just you feel happy normally.

was there with my daughter. she was very excited to go. we we waited in line for sometime because she wanted to go early. I did not think it was going to be that crazy. but we went early and glad I did . we sat in second row and all that mattered was my daughter enjoyed very much. great concert.
I think I may have been behind you if you were on the right side? It was a great - solid Grace show that really placed Melissa on Guitar cemented Ben Masters on the drums. A very magical experience for me and so glad I recorded it all. I love this Grace VanderWaal and finally got to meet her last year and her brother and talk with her parents a bit. Grace's waist was so small it was surprising when we had the photo taken : ) She's an amazing role model for me and helps me think about life and theater and music in a different and more important way in my life. How grateful we are to have the 'gift' of music whether we are players or the entertained. She deserves all of God's great miracles he has waiting inside of her. Thank you and Go Grace!
What the hell, what is it about this young kid? Every nuance, every broken note in her voice is so endearing, its as if she's been performing for 20/30 years, she feeds her audience and feeds off her audience and she is 13/14, now that is natural talent in its purest form. You cant learn how to do this you just do it. She sings every word believing every word. Absolutely amazing. Many many so called stars should take note.

EVERY emotional moment of every song radiates from this artist in a powerful way that's unlike anything i have seen in my 57 years of life. If you don't want to deeply feel the song then don't look at her eyes. Even though they can't been seen clearly in this video they radiate those emotions. She doesn't just sing the songs, 100% in the song in every video on the internet

I am literally so proud of Melissa for blending right into the family and even taking her own risks and making improvements/improvisations. She’s even started singing more. I’m so happy she’s helped Grace hone her sound and become someone I look forward to hearing every time she plays with Grace. I’m also very glad that Nolan is sticking around for the USBTour, he has amazing energy. I love how Grace, Melissa and Nolan harmonise. I’m so happy and proud of the band, they’re almost just as much apart of the act as Grace is now...
Clare Weitzel My guess is they are working on making a big impression in the USB tour. Many people like Grace with only acoustic guitar; me too. But I also love her arrangements and the way she holds court on any stage. She will prove that once more. She’s a hard working singer/songwriter who will never disappoint :)

Her Mom and Dad were there and brother Jacob. Mom and Dad were so nice, overnice. Crazy that this can all be true. She's so famous and been on all these shows on TV and awards and all that and more...Disney movie, Windex commercial, so much. She seems like the most 'normal' person I have ever met. Fantastic person and spirit.

This concert video never gets old. I watch my own video at least in part, everyday. When I read how people are moved by Grace I cry with joy and a host of feelings. Thank you Grace.
Grace and this song has helped me through so much. “Now she lost her way and she forgets to smile. Never gets a break from this life in denial.” Not only those lyrics but every other lyric has just helped me so much and i remember listening to it non stop when it first came out

When I was a kid I saw Judy Garland command a stage very close to how Grace does it, she's a natural and I believe she will still be able to do it when the crowd is 50k strong
I agree about Grace commanding a stage at 50K. And I also usually use Judy Garland as a comparison when talking to friends. She is just almost a superhuman and a blessed girl and spirit. Ben Masters. I have a different take on this. I have been a champion for Ben (I am a drummer of 55 years of playing and teaching and training drummers) I actually wrote to the GV team and said that when she goes on the ID tour they better pick Ben because he knows how to drive the band and excite the band members and bring the energy up so it gets into the audience. In any case, they picked Ben. I believe that he is so sensitive to this music, and he loves Grace so much and cares so deeply that he knows what to do and when to do it. He's an excellent musician and knows how to rock a room OR bring it down for a library gig. I have total confidence in him and have never heard or experienced his drumming as anything but perfect for each gig. However, I will say that where I was recording this the drums in that seating area, the drums came across a bit in your face. I invite you to watch other people's videos of this concert to hear that huge difference from maybe 40 feet back from where I was in the 3rd row. But I appreciate your sensitivity and of course your always insightful comments. You are a true Grace supporter till the end, I know. PS. Grace is the coolest kid on the block. Btw, she's also a complete entertainer as you say. Wicked funny, dry wit, great at everything she touches - vocal treatments, stage presence, production, and caring for others. This list is endless. We all want her to take care of herself because people who give so much can get depleted and though she seems strong as an OX, she needs that downtime and family and friends to hold her close. Which, she has. She's doing everything right and I think she knows when to say, I just can't do that now. Maybe later.
Danny, Thank you for your kind words. Since these days not long ago, a few profesional videos have come out mostly from the ID tour and they are excellent too, very excellent! But natural Grace, is well, natural and more human to us. The connection to the audiences are better in ACL and Utica and Boston and the whole JTB tour. She seems more open with her heart if that's possible. I pray to God that we have her with us for a long time of health and happiness. She is an amazing, talented entertainer and also healer. God lives in her and she answers that calling in her way with compassion, heart and soul.

I don't know how one gets to be a fanderwaal but I am one, I suppose. I've been supporting Grace everyday since she sang her now famous song on AGT. Gone to 3 concerts and tried to be a voice of experience and reason to help. I love Grace as she is the least pretentious and she's so down to earth, normal young girl with a huge future, never mind the present! Go Grace!

I WAS AT THIS SHOW !!!! I know I am just one of many masses but I have to say so many special things about GRACE !! For someone so young to touch hearts from age 7 to 70. I am so glad she came close and I was able to see her live. Howie said it best for sure AMAZING GRACE !!!!

I was unsure how far Grace would go after she won AGT, but she has grown incredibly in the time since then, and is suddenly one of the most brilliant, creative artists on the planet. Her singing has developed to levels I’d never anticipated, and while she is still so young Grace carries herself with a maturity and poise of someone that has been on the music scene for many years.
I am excited to see what will come from Grace in the decades ahead

What an upload .. This Girl is growing like a universe .. UPDATE: true .. Noticed this Spring; when I listen to Grace at dawn - with windows open - every bird in the neighbourhood sings at the top of their voices, and morning by morning (this May) the chorus grows. "Light The Sky" is a big favourite, the feathered ones rejoice, I kid you not.

For many months, I'd thought "ACL" was her best and she would never make a better performance than that. But this is GOOOOD!! Especially "Darkness" is tremendous!! Isn't it, Patrick?
Hard to believe you said that so BIG Thank you for the kind words for the video and especially Grace's performance, style and energy! She is amazing. I went to another concert at a big stadium and was so far away from the stage with an iPhone it was almost impossible to record anything worthwhile. So, I learned. Get into the pit or first 20 rows of a concert to get a decent phone recording. Thanks again! Love it all! Also, please remember to bring earplugs to concerts. You only need one and switch it from ear to ear every 8-10 mins. That's the way musicians do it and the way I was trained. That way the muscles of the ear get to rest and you still feel connected to the concert and artist.
Grace is so wonderful Her band are so on point and the drummer is having to keep his equipment on the stage which Grace noticed and he was still on point of course the Key board player is really in charge so good even with a step in guitarist. Really like her band too and that makes her live gigs so special.

Thanks for the video! Really like Grace, not just because she is a very unique and talented artist, but because she is AND is just so young and doesn't pretend to be older. She is just a teen, gawky, goofy, honest, real and sincere. To often young talents have tried to grow up too fast. And often times it doesn't go well.

I really think it’s always important to mention the parenting she has and support from her brother and sister. At concerts I’ve met and talked with cousins and relatives... they all really seem to be great folks. Grace can make the right decisions musically and artistically and the rest is work but it comes naturally for her. She loves what she’s doing!

Hello David. Thanks for chiming in. I too have played with or opened for some of those bands in the 60's-70's and on. I still play and teach professionally. Grace is amazing and we love her.
