    I did this to a digital version of the window AC, just bypassed the control board and used a few relays, and corresponding wires that were on the board from the compressor and the fan and using the ecobee premium thermostat on it and works great!!!

      What did you do with the fan wires for low, medium, high, and neutral? Did you just only use the neutral wire to connect to the relay and leave the low, medium, and high setting connected to the board? Thanks!

      @@VatosLocos-PorSiempre you’ll need 24v running to the thermostat to power a 24v coil to 120 contact relay and I have it ran on a relay block basically wire y1 of your stat to the 24v power side of of the relay, common from the relay goes to the common side of the transformer and it’s good, I have a boiler system with baseboard heat and I have that setup on W1 of the stat, sounds confusing but it works

      @@VatosLocos-PorSiempre wire fan1 and ac compressor to the relay or you can run a separate relay to control just the fan side and leave the compressor off, it’s pretty genius if u ask me lol

    Hello, your vid is right on time (for me). I have my dog’ kennel in the garage but now that ambient temperature is the same as outside. I now have a 6000btu unit to cool his kennel and had just began my search for thermostat concepts when I found your vid. I am looking forward to this project for him.

    Perfect presentation!! Like others have commented this is exactly what I be doing I've gotten 15min timers and outlet remotes in the past, but it was to hard to sit there everyday and pull and push 50 tabs on the timer. Then when I wanted to use the remote the timer would stop like a clock and off set the time I wanted the a/c I/O so I had to unplug and replug alot . Yeah i can get a unit with built-in digital control and timers with wifi etc. and have it all. I dont like that. I want those controls simple and next to my remotes. Yes, I'd perfer to sit there with a tethered wire and hold a old Honeywell swivel thermostat like a remote instead of having the remote lol

    Thank you so much, this works perfectly, only mistake I made was going with a honeywell 9000 thermostat, I suggest not getting a honeywell, their app isn't usable at all for the wifi thermostat

    Hi thank you for the video. I am wondering how do you achieve temperatures low enough to store wine? The temp probe in the ac unit will shut the compressor at around 65 degrees? We need around 55 degrees constant to store wine.

    • @nextlevelhomeimprovements3637
      @nextlevelhomeimprovements3637  Рік тому +1

      The temp probe is removed with this solution and replaced with the wall thermostat that doesn’t have the governor.

      I used a timer relay (not shown in this video) that keeps the fan going for a couple minutes after the compressor turns off. Since I’m only cooling to a wine cellar temp (56f), not sure I even need it, but it could help for those wanting lower temps. Maybe I’ll create another video that shows it.

    • @garrettsmith5747
      @garrettsmith5747 Рік тому +1

      It's kinda ghetto but works for me. If you haven't got around to doing the relay as mentioned, try throwing a blanket or towel over the condenser, the a/c may have more strain but we're innovative and it's not like we're already straining the system in the first place lol . The subcooling, however, seems to restore shortly after doing so, then the evap melts and cools once again.

    I’m a little confused the common wire that goes to the air conditioner come from? The transformer or the thermostat?

  • @kwacz

    60 degrees set on my window ac only goes down to 67 actual temperature. These built in temperature controls lie to you and make you think your room is much colder than it actually is. The difference between set and actual becomes wider the lower you go in temperature.

    I hate the digital controls because this stupid 3 minute delay when the fan runs 3 minutes before the compressor turns which adds moisture to the room every time the air condition goes back on it's a stupid design why does it need a stupid the manual controls on the 5000 BTU doesn't do that so I'd like to know how to change out the digital thermostat and put in the manual controls on my 6000 BTU from Toshiba .Can you please make a video showing how to get rid of the stupid Digital controls and put manual controls for the thermostat and on off switch it has 3 speeds

    you don't really need such components to wire a thermostat to a window air conditioner all you really need it a 24v transformer (if necessary) here's the wiring diagram for better explanation.

    Thermostat | Transformer |
    |____________| | 120V to 24V |
    | | | |_______________|
    | | | | |
    | | | | |
    | | | | |
    (R) | (C)--------------------- |
    | | (24V)
    | |-------------------------- (C)
    (Y) | |
    | | |
    | (G)------------------------
    | |
    |_________AC Unit Control Board________
    | | | |
    (Y) (G) (C) (R)
    Compressor Fan Common Power
    so what the diagram is showing us is that we connect the thermostat wires (R) (Y) (G) to the ac unit control board and the (C) wire to the transformer sometimes its possible you wont need a transformer and you could use the common wire on the ac unit control board if your lucky!!

      How do you know if the transformer is necessary? I’m planning on putting this in my van which has a 24volt battery system. I’m assuming I can supply power to the thermostat directly from there and not need any of the relays. Is this thinking correct?
