Unlike his parents - who loved each other first before messed up misunderstandings and dumb decisions led them to break apart before coming back together - he literally killed her. Yes, there were misunderstandings, but he still killed her. He stupidly tried to harm her thinking she would survive but her core had already shattered. He only realised at the last moment that the sword would kill her. He only thought of his need to make it better but if he truly loved her he should have given her the strength to go through her last tribulation and left her alone for eternity after that. The humiliation she reflected on in the moment of her death was heartbreaking. No self respecting person would ever go back to someone who drove them to asking to be killed. He literally provided her no sense of security and made her a fool in the eyes of others. I watched the movie version of this and I just couldn’t accept nor understand how I’m supposed to root for such a man. If this is supposed to be the sequel to Ancient Love Poetry then I’m more pissed at the idiocy of these two than I ever was at his parents and that’s saying something with some of the fucked up shit those 2 went through.
i agree yuan qi should not have killed ah yin in the first place. i think that was poor writing. in the og story it was all about self sacrifice. in ALP shanggu should have died. Bai jue should never have tried to save her and negate her sacrifice. but oh well. both series had their faults. but TLI probably had more faults than anything else

I would really like it if in one of these dramas after the male lead tortures and just treats the female lead like garbage they actually get proper punishment. They never do like this dude treats her like absolute garbage and we're supposed to be okay with it. We need more we're after they do that they are no longer the male lead they are garbage because that's what they are. But no every time they get a quote redeemed without doing anything or even apologizing. And we're just supposed to accept that as okay.
