@Deathwhistle There’s a difference between being a DJ and instrumentalist. DJs rely on samples and beats which are then thrown through mixers with a multitude of controls for filters, cutoffs, frequencies, etc. Instrumentalists need scales, chord progressions, and key signatures on top of sound engineering if you chose to take more power into your own hands. None of that is easy. I’m not saying a DJ can’t be talented or make good music, what I am saying is anyone can become a DJ without knowing much music theory. I’ve messed with many pieces of DJing equipment. I use most, if not all, of the options provided on a DJ controller when mixing and editing projects alone. Hell, there are some synthesizers out there that require more work. What you need to know to be a DJ is about 1/3 of what solo instrumentalists need to know. Plus, I make music for fun with friends just cause. Being big and famous isn’t my priority nor is it the type of life I would find relaxing.
@Jack Page you're using such a hugely broad term as "electronic" music to describe a very specific type of musician. You think all electronic artists just stack loops? What about the ones that MAKE the loops. It's like you downloaded launchpad and assume that's how actual producers make music. There are plenty of brilliant composers in electronic music. Like a I said, it's a very broad term. Some of Bowie's music was considered "electronic". Suicide, Fripp, Brian Eno, etc.
@PassionEnergy It depends on how it's performed. Really the only problem with electronic music in comparison to other genres is that it's harder to make it look like you're actually doing something when you perform it. The DJs just look like they're pressing play and waving their arms around (and sadly that's all some of them do which is a slap in the face for turntablists or DJs that actually pick their songs on the fly and vary their song transitions), and the ones who use complex MIDI setups like deadmau5 have the right idea but run into the problem of an audience that isn't going to understand what he's doing on stage beyond turning knobs and pressing buttons and are left feeling like they need some top end science degree to understand what's going on, which in turn leads to a few people jumping to the conclusion that he's just another DJ hitting play and waving his arms around. In some ways the electronic instruments that were big in the 70s, 80s, and 90s were the better solution to this problem as the audience at least got a sense of basic cause and effect; when you hear the effect of the synthesizer making noises in time to the synth player's movements you immediately correlate it to the synth player hitting the keys on the keyboard. When a vocoder makes the sound of a robotic voice you immediately correlate it with the person who is singing into the vocoder. And with a Theremin you're practically watching someone interact directly with the frequency it plays back. I think the one MIDI instrument I've seen that kind of fixes this disconnect is the Ztar which is famously used by Rob Swire when he performs with Pendulum.
Hehe, that moment on stage playing a solo wrong, always hurts. Tho I am not free from making mistakes on stage, it's always so humiliating haha. but that guy at 5:14 was taking forever, to get back in the groove.
I have jumped into a drum set and let me tell you, it is not advisable. I immediately regretted it and my drummer was thoroughly pissed off. Just don’t do it.
A place I used to work, held the odd DJ night where they would make around £5000 A set, this wasn't a massive place, could only hold about 300 people, so a large chunk of money went to one guy. But mid songs, the DJ would come to the bar and ask for drinks and would sometimes complain that we needed to speed up so he could go back to the decks and change the song as if he was a stalwart professional. 8 double G&Ts later, he tries to tell me (A teen guitarist looking to do the odd live show) the ins and outs of how to perform on stage and how he has a passion for performing live. How can you have a passion for live music when what you have to do, can be done by a little man off his nut on drink and probably other stuff and requires so little attention he can pester the bar staff for a drink and leaving his "instrument". I don't really know how decks work and I imagine some DJS actually play their songs live other than manipulating and changing tracks that are stored on a USB by twisting the odd knob. So in the end he was a nob who turned knobs This comment didn't really go anywhere, just thought I'd let you know, I don't like DJS.
The deadmau5 BSOD thing was part of the show; he was basically using a bit of humour to segue to the next song. But on the occasions where something has genuinely gone wrong during one of his shows he's always found a way to use humour to keep the audience occupied while the problem gets fixed.
@everyone Being a DJ can be extremely difficult. None of you probably play instruments int he first place. Yeah, there are bad DJ’s, and bad EDM producers, but to be a good one takes talent. Producing music and learning to understand all of the software and music theory is extremely difficult and most successful DJ’s and producers *actually do play instruments*. Also stop saying EDM is a shit genre. *Most* modern music these days has NO real/unique meaning, and BASIC chords with little to no effort spent into sounding unique. Of course, there are still some good modern songs, but most of you aren’t even real musicians anyways so you can’t just glorify modern music and say a whole entire genre is shit. While a lot of EDM may not have meaning behind it either, at least a lot of successful EDM producers can *actually use good chords* and have a good understanding of music and different genres. They are also masters of rhythm and making a good beat. Where do you think most of the good hip-hop artists days get their beats? (Hip hop is a good genre, way better than modern pop in my opinion) Well, they have EXPERIENCED PRODUCERS make their beats for them. Not that hip-hop producers are the same as EDM producers, but they still work on the same software in the same field. I actually love and understand a lot of genres of music, and play an instrument seriously (looking forward to playing multiple) and i can tell you that EDM is one of the better modern genres of music if anything. And just because I say that doesn’t mean i’m automatically saying it’s the best, I think a lot of the same genres today but in the late 1900’s were much, much better, and were better understood. Hell, classical music from baroque - romantic periods in a way beats a loooot of genres today. It all has meaning, the composers are fucking musical geniuses, everything is well thought of and detailed, and i could honestly go on forever about how good classical is and how it could beat *most*, not all other genres.
In some aspects DJ'ing might be hard in their own rights, they aren't musicians though. They are entertainers, crowd pleasers, an act, but most certainly not a musical act.
The funniest thing to me is that everything is so serious and they fuck up real bad.. then it's fucking hilarious to hear the terrifying screams of people in the audience when someone misses a stage dive lmfaooo
At an outdoor show in Sacramento a decade ago...the singer from one of the acts false started a dive into the crowd...climbed up onto the speakers...false jumped...climbed up the lighting frame ...did a couple false jumps...then dove! Plummeted about 25feet onto the ground ( no one caught him after about 5 false leaps) DOH!!!🤯

cbrooks0905 I think I remember it was something to do with the guitarist not wanting to do covers all the time and decided to quit in one of the most epic exits I've ever seen. You can hear him saying at the beginning about quitting and saying "...screw this I'm going solo"
\ OldSchoolFreak /, huh? I'm talking the reason why the guitarist decided to break his guitar and leave. The drummer didn't seem happy about it, and the singer was confused. I'd like to know the whole story.

4:14 That isn’t a fail, that’s punk rock
@Srinjan Sanyal You can't fail when you're too nihilistic to try. So no, Punk Rock isn't a fail.
Exactly imagine these people thinking a GG Allin show or a germs show is a fail 😆punk shows are supposed to be hardcore and destructive lol
I love watching DJ’s press buttons and then put their hands up in glory like they just turned water into wine
@Deathwhistle Also, Jimmy Saville was a DJ. A little effort in research would show you that.
@Deathwhistle There’s a difference between being a DJ and instrumentalist. but that guy at 5:14 was taking forever, to get back in the groove.
Thats brazil!
The Biggie Smalls one had me laughing..never saw that
1:53 the bass drop timing was so fucking perfect
Wow, that DJ is so good, he didn't even have to look at the button after he pushed it.
Now I know who killed Biggie! It was DJ Cap!!!😂
Na he would have botched the hit.
5:43 “ok” proceeds to fall
I have jumped into a drum set and let me tell you, it is not advisable. I immediately regretted it and my drummer was thoroughly pissed off. Just don’t do it.
Did you do it on purpose or were you drunk or what? 😀
1:31 I died 😂😂😂😂
I like how some of them seems to keep on singign even when they fall of the stage or drop the mic, thats awesome :D
4:56 "you're a fucking asshole, Tim!" 😂🤣🤣
☝🏻anyone who refuses to play any Bon Jovi song is NOT an asshole.

Me either, they're NOTHING!!!
Laughed so hard at biggy flipping out on his dj. What the f**k is wrong with you! 😂😅😂
Why would you try to spin a guitar without strap locks?
6:55 the best rap concert I've ever heard.
I like that there are so many Maggots here, i'm one myself.🤘🤘🤘
@DEATH-METAL same! 🤘🏻
@What Color Is Death ? Ok.
Steve aoki is soo good at DJing that he can do it without touching the decks😂😂
The deadmau5 BSOD thing was part of the show; he was basically using a bit of humour to segue to the next song. But on the occasions where something has genuinely gone wrong during one of his shows he's always found a way to use humour to keep the audience occupied while the problem gets fixed.
Rule #1 for being a DJ is get some musical talent and don't be a DJ.

OK boomer
Calvin Harris has talent; he is a DJ
True true
In some aspects DJ'ing might be hard in their own rights, they aren't musicians though. They are entertainers, crowd pleasers, an act, but most certainly not a musical act.
😂😂😂 he thought they were gonna catch him 1:11
There's only one truly, perfectly, beautifully and legendary live performance ever done by a perfect legend;.
Live Aid
Freddie mercury....
Ever heard Killswitch engage live, meshuggah, slipknot?

I saw Foreigner 1987 at Madison Square. It kicked ass.
3:25 Somehow this cracked me 😂🤣💀
DJ: 🤬
Crowd: 🥳😈 WOOOO!!
4:15 He was just helping the drummer dismantle his set.
Its not a fail for the first guy shown, he looked like he was having fun.

Never knew there was such a thing as crowd rafting.
The one with biggie smalls wasn't the djs fault. It was so hot that day that the records were melting.
5:51 EPIC. Its a bird, its a plane...oh no that's my best guitar!!!!
It's so satisfying to see a DJ fail
3:05 I can't stop laughing from this lol
1:52 the bass dropped and so did he
The funniest thing to me is that everything is so serious and they fuck up real bad.. then it's fucking hilarious to hear the terrifying screams of people in the audience when someone misses a stage dive lmfaooo
The guy who got slapped definitely got his ass fired
5:14 epic lol

@Insiktsfull hail satan
BIG straight humiliated that DJ..
5:44 😂 🤣 i just cant! Haha
He fell like two stories
Who is that? Huge fall.
4:18 drum diving? This is new to me lol
Kurt Cobain used to do it sometimes.
As a lighting operator I just sit back & wait for the audio dept to fix it and just don’t get involved! 🤨
O melhor de todos é o carinha que erra o solo e leva um tapão pra deixar de ser ruim kkkkkk
4:08 reminds me of when I used to DJ!
1:32 isn’t a fail but it’s just how he links up to complicated seen deadmau5 doing it twice live 🤯
The coffin dive made him skip the concert and started playing again at a funeral
A pro bass costs thousands of dollars.
Some idiot : "Let's try to spin it around my neck."
Same idiot : "Oh, no ! That was a bad decision."
at least the guy in the biggie clip was ACTUALLY spinnin
1:23 Wow, Iggy Azalea fell harder than her career.

The BIG bit was funny as hell
Thank God biggie still having fails in 2016
………DAMN, the singer jumped but the crowd let him down…………let him DOWN !
4:25 not the 1st time Steve Aoki bit it, and probably not the last. Dude was fucking crazy back in the dayl
Swinging your guitar around your neck...just don't. 😑
The first 13seconds of the 1st clip reminded me of my uncle trying to be cool at a wedding
OMG! I had to laugh out loud on some of these!!
That dude that got slapped. Wtf band audition gone bad. 😂😂😂
If I jump in front of a folding table, am I a DJ?
I can’t name one time anyone through a guitar over their neck and it worked
I sexually identify as an oven mitt you need some Story of the Year in your life...
I remember when biggies dj messed up on stage last year. funny stuff.

Lesson learned from theses vids, that being don’t swing your bass or guitar around ya shoulder
4:36 felt like Steel Dragon all over again for me.
The audience: You're so cool!
The floor: No. You're not.
Man, Peter Hook let himself go for a bit there...
(Edit: wait SHIT that's actually HIM)
For context he's not normally a DJ. He was bassist for Joy Division and New Order, and the remix was of a New Order song called Blue Monday. Nowadays he has his own band and does a lot of JD/NO stuff.
Apparently there are more than a few bass players that need to learn about and install some strap locks on their instruments.
R.I.P biggie smalls. Lol he was getting on his ass🤣😂
Wow, never seen the Biggie meltdown.
aoki looked dazed after smashing his head but it was just him realizing he shouldve played a musical instrument instead
...when a musician is a jerk to fans in any way
2:42 When mom makes you let your nerd brother join your band.
Thank God for lip synching. The show must go on, even when the "singer" forgets what gravity is.
LMAO THE DJ MESSING UP THE RAPPER
The guy in the 3:32 was hilarous.

cbrooks0905 I think I remember it was something to do with the guitarist not wanting to do covers all the time and decided to quit in one of the most epic exits I've ever seen. You can hear him saying at the beginning about quitting and saying "...screw this I'm going solo"

cbrooks0905 well u see the details
\ OldSchoolFreak /, no shit. I want to know more details.
I couldn't tell how the dj was messing up, it sounds just like moon river to me.
Wow biggie, so cool, imagine if he is still alive
6:20 best moment
I notice alot of these are from djs or stuff like that...ive played music my whole life and we work hard on writing our music and also performing. I've always said djs are not musical or musicians...the do not qualify as that.
Anyone wanting to sling the guitar around your body needs Strap Lock straps. You can't use regular straps.
This will make me laugh 😂
when that windows menu came up, i was like damn, that's sick and creative, i need to find the band's name. but alas just a mistake
Wow djs fuck up a fair bit! Must be hard to hit play on someone else's music
1:02 what was he thinking😂😂
This video is like they just fall of the stage😂
4:41 Did he just broke his guitar
5:15 hahaha! Nice one! Lol!
