    I have to admit I'm quite baffled as to why you would play music so loud that I can't hear the bike when riding it. The sound is the best part, and I feel you've robbed me of the pleasure of hearing a 500 at full throttle.

    I've owned multiple versions ( 100% stock to big bore ported craziness) of both the CR and KX 500's. Each one has it's own place, CR more MX and woods riding. The KX is more of a desert/dune or a MX track with long straights .

    I’ve had both, a 91 CR500 for 9 years and a 99 KX500 for 6 years. The CR turned better and was had plenty of power but the KX was better overall, felt faster, had more power and seemed a bit more stable on top.
    I’d take either today and be happy, wish I still had them.

    Good vid, awesome to see the 2 big 500s out there, in this era was always mostly a Honda guy, had a couple KX 125s in 84/85 back in the day. But always Yamaha or Honda before or post that. Always had a soft spot for both, but the KX always stood out to me, for some reason, its the one I have always wanted, especially the KIPS engine onwards.
    Be good to see you do a similar year fork upgrade on the CR to re compare with the KX, I do think suspension and setup makes a big difference, these bikes didn't get allot of the upgrades like the 250/125s did of that era, they usually were behind.
    So that would be good to see. Still great to see both bikes on the track.
    Also be interesting to see what someone could do to strengthen and stiffen the frame, bracing extra welds etc, always wondered why no one looked at that as the Factories often did it, course you want someone or have a jug setup to prevent warping etc, Id imagine it wouldn't be a easy task to do or do right, but its something I have thought of doing if I got one, the frames obviously aren't new, materials stretch fatigue in various ways. Its always interested me though.
    Look forward to what you do next. 🤘

      @@maverick2242 hi bud, that’s awesome agreed it would be cool to really go to town on dialling these bikes in but part of me likes the rawness to them. There not easy to ride and I like that. The kawi engine is much better overall it’s struggles a bit of the flat turns as it feels like a long boat but everything else is that bit more comfortable. Also the Honda is a very small bike so the difference is huge on feel.
      Next up is a really nice 250 fully race prepped I think you will enjoy it 😊

      It depends on what your prefer in a bike !
      I do prefer fast cornering before stable in a long straight!
      As you go flat 4-5 gear you over the rear fender and take waight of the front end.
      Good suspension is major kee to achieve a good bike !
      I did use the Öhlins for most part.
      WP Extreme 50mm also used back than.
      So even the Marzoochi 45 & 50mm Magnum fork.
      I do not ride much super cross so my setup is based on MX.
      I'm 6,5' 220lbs so run high bar and push the clamps as much forward as it is possible.
      Also I move pegs further back 1/4" to 1/2" mostly depends on the chassi we speak about.
      My last bike like that was the 92 kx 250 frame and the 500 motor.
      That bike did not be a good bike how hard I try.
      The 90-91 250 frame was good so it is Important pick the right frame for you 💯
      That's, what it is about building a race bike that's fast ! The old SR500 I started whit green in 1985

    Was it really chassis flex on on the CR or just the suspension letting it down? Obviously neither are stock and both have different suspension setups... Been into these bikes since the day they rolled off the show room floor, never heard the CR criticised for having a "flexy" frame...

    • @LetsTorqueBikes
      @LetsTorqueBikes  3 місяці тому +1

      @@jaialcorn8945 I think it’s the fact it’s nearly 30 years old mate, might be different if we was doing this video back then I’m just comparing both bikes as they feel right now. But for sure the suspension is a little soft but you feel the bike flex also. Most old bikes do compared to the modern steel / alloy frames

    Do you realize what you said about the CR500 power and being able to stay in forth gear? You could ride the track in forth gear. Then you said you needed to change gears more often?? You seem to be confused. But, in my opinion you looked more confident and Faster on the CR500.

    • @LetsTorqueBikes
      @LetsTorqueBikes  14 днів тому +1

      @@dennismillus4581 because of that torque of the Honda you ‘could’ if you wished to do so use 4th the whole time. A bike with more torque and less over rev is a bike you change gear more on from third to fourth gear in the Hondas case. The kawasaki has more spread power so the gear you use in a turn usually does the straight too, which is less gear changes. So it’s exactly how I said it having ridden the bikes back to back. Third gear is good for turns on the Honda & then a change to 4th for the straights rather than revving it out where there is no more power left. Hope this helps your confusion
