It's because he likes symmetry and geometric shapes. He wanted to make his hand appear smaller, and the easiest way to do that was by making his guitar pick bigger. It's like sixty minutes on acid.
Because it's good advice. Because music and performing does not make sense. It is his job. Because music is very physical, and often the pizza pick understands it before the hand.
If I gave you fifty dollars right now, how many picks would you buy with it?
my god his speaking voice is insanely similar to his singing voice, thats wild
Hmmm, I guess its: same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was!
Surely that’s what you’d expect isn’t it? I reckon it would be wild if he sounded like Donald Trump when he spoke!
Actually what’s funny about that is that if you watch him talk in the 80s, his talking voice doesn’t sound much like his singing voice at all. The older he got, the more he started to sound like that while he talked too!
Bro just has goofy grandpa/uncle vibes I love him
And you may find yourself using an interesting shaped guitar pick. And you may ask yourself, why do I use this pick?
He's a genius on every possible level. I think he's like a mad scientist but with music.
I could listen to David Byrne read the phone book and I'd beg for a sequel
David is one of my idols. Love that mna
I always break my plastic picks so I got a metal one, my friend doesn't get it like plastic picks break so easily lol nice to see david byrne has found a solution to that
I think Brian May used to use an English coin like a pence (English penny?) for a pick. Must give a really different sound. Whatever works for a person works right?
@@meself349When I was a kid I had to use a coin a few times. It doesn't do much to the sound, and only the player will notice the negligible difference.
Thats why i always get a few different sets of picks with different thicknesses.
One of Scotland's proudest exports... a legendary genius...🏴👍
David!!!!! The man!!!
Glad to see him doing well. His is one group I haven't had the pleasure of seeing live, but maybe someday ❤
A brilliant musician
David is brilliant. I'm sure he never hears that.
Pretty much everybody else in that band could have been replaced with somebody else, but without him it wouldn't have been Talking Heads
@@meself349absolutely untrue. tina is a one of a kind bassist and many people have said franz was the experimental beating heart of talking heads
@@zolris5498 Tina wrote iconic bass riffs. She and Chris made the partygoers dance.
And David's guitar work is really interesting too.
@@meself349there aren't many bands you could be more wrong about with that statement
I used to have a few of those. They are cool but I didn't use them much.
Byrne is a really good guitarist. He is not just a lead singer who can play a few chords, he is more than that. He can really play that funk, plus guitar solos.
He's also so good at knowing when not to play. Doesn't get nervous and adds a bunch of filler, him and Jerry play sooo clean.
Byrne seems to have changed dramatically over the years. He's really a personable guy.
My 80's hero 🤩
Well hot damn. That's what my dad forever. And then another hour damn.
Thank you sir David
I miss David & Talking Heads sooooo much..The world just isn't the same without them. ❤
love David's speaking voice
The talking heads a great group and David Byrnes a great singer, I remember in 1983, when I was 17
he seems like such a sweet goofy guy. love him so much!
After all these years David's still adorable.
I love this guy
So much love for DB ❤
Brilliant
I love David, his brain seems to be broken in the same manner as mine own.
I like those bigger picks, too. I got the habit from seeing a unique 3-string Japanese instrument that uses a gigantic one. I talked to the player and he mentioned he also plays guitar with bigger than normal picks. They're a lot easier to hold and control since they have more surface area to grip. To each his own, play it as you like it.
"This must be the pick for us "
This ridiculously sized pick is more useful than people give it credit for. My friends are constantly dumbfounded to find out I use this thing, glad to know David does too!
they're the best, and last 3 times as long as normal ones. all I use.
We love you Dave ❤ saw you in Manchester 🇬🇧
LOVE....David Byrne!! Such a cool voice!
This man is such an icon
These are what I use and I get grief all the time about them
david on my yt shorts? bet thisll happen once in a lifetime
I use the pizza pics - love 'em.
Tyvm for your music....you rock guys
My boys (7&12) love talking heads, timeless music, ahead of it’s time probably, but so unique then and now
Met David twice in my life. He's a pretty nice guy.
One of the greatest contemporary artists! Chapeau 🎩
The man, the myth, the legend, and my personal hero. Thank you for bringing me up from the darkest points in my life. Long live David Byrne!
Living Legend
This was so fun to watch.
David is awesome.
Years of experience
Cool to David at home. Thanks for posting
Thank you for the clarification
This is why I use my star-shaped pick. ⭐️
Byrne: “well they do have four side triangles on Mars”
Amazing energy to you and to flow. Unconditional love respect and gratitude 🙏. Upping vibration. Love your energy. God’s speed. Respect ✊
Can't you guys just do one more reunion concert?
David Byrne...The Chillest human ever concieved. If you don't wanna take my word for it, check out the live concert video of the Stop Making Sense tour (from back in '83-'84). Still my all-time fav. concert series...& it was filmed by, no less than Johnathan Demi. 🤟🐻❄️
He's beautiful
❤ him.
I love David Byrne. An absolute certified legend.
A legend and an icon. A musical genius.
David. is. cool.
I really like David 👏🏻
Guy is a genius!
I use these when I play bass with a pick. You get used to it. And he’s right it is nice to have three picks in one.
Because rotating the pizza pick will always be the same as it ever was
I loved the Talking Heads since I was a little boy. I didn't know what his songs meant but they sounded great and I loved the music vids. I'm 40 now
Wonderfully talented Musician!
Of course there’s a good reason!😊
Gorgeous! I listen to your music for years almost every day. Lots of memories are full of your creations,,your voice is so familiar
I’ve got a plectrum…That’s better than that..
I love the way he just wandered off. Legend
You the man David, love your music ☘️🍀physco killer, slippery ppl, 2 of my favorites 💯👍
They need more shorts of him on this YT channel
he likes symmetry and geometric shapes
I uise a similar one from Tortex, the purple one and I play solo with it also.
Ive never had a pick tip break off but maybe thats what im doing wrong😮
yep
Love his voice❤❤❤❤
I love Thalking Heads ❤
"And you may ask yourself, why do I use this thing?"
I love this
He's really Byrne'd the point of that triangular pick home lol
you guys rock.thanks.💪🤚
I dabble with picks. Pizza style rounded for aggro bass get that nice clean shirt attack.
Distinguished gentleman 👍🫧
I love him so fucking much
Smart guy.
Love ya David❤
What a fucking genius
Smart man.
And you may find yourself, using a PIZZA! PICK!
and you mind find yourself, breaking off a corner of the plectrum!
and you may find yourself, rotating it around to get another corner!
And you may find yourself breaking another cor-ner!
And then the third and the last!
And you may ask yourself...
"...well, do I have another one!?"
PICK IN THE LEFT-POCKET!
SO I'M NEVER OUT OF STRUM
PICK IN THE LEFT POCKET!
SO I CAN GET THROUGH THE SONG
USING A PIZZA PICK!
IS BOTH WISE AND FINE
ONCE IN A LIFETIME!
THE COR-NER OF A PICK IS GONE!
I've been on such a talking heads kick lately. I'm 38 and didn't even discover their genius until just a few years ago. So glad I didn't just think of them as "some corny 80s band"
Always the same voice!I love it❤
Well, alright, cool!
Everybody ends up with one of these picks somehow, and David Byrne is the only person I have seen admitting that they use them. Therefore, I am now convinced that David Byrne has a psychic ability to locate guitar players worldwide and has been sneaking into their houses at night and adding one of these picks to their collections one player at a time.
I had one of those picks when i was a kid I never liked it. Now I’m seeing in a different light
as a rhythm guitarist i've always hated those Fender picks, David is right, they constantly break, and on top of that I don't even really like the way they feel or sound. using a triangular one to get 3 points to use is very funny though
Como se parece a Leslie Nielse hasta la voz la tiene igual😮😘❤
very smart man
Forbidden Dorito
Woooaaahh.
he's just like me
NJ
Hey, that makes sense…
imagine being a stagehand at a concert venue after a talking heads gig and you walk onstage and you get stabbed in the foot immediately by a million tiny little broken sharp plastic points from all david’s broken picks
That may be the first time I've seen him in shorts.
For a second I thought this comment meant UA-cam Shorts, since this video was under a minute and YT automatically turned it into a UA-cam Short instead of a regular video - but yeah, it's decently rare that he wears shorts
@@OhNoCompassion I thought the exact same thing lmao
Best pun ever
Maybe laundry day.
Truly a once in a lifetime moment
