She’s right. 😂 I remember in Elementary school them trying to teach us kids about the metric system for like a few days & then they just gave up. We were just looking at our books like, “The f**k is this s**t?” I still get confused when some UA-cam video says, “it was a sweltering hot 35° that day” & I’m thinking, “Wtf that’s almost freezing temperatures...Oh wait... Siri, convert 35°C to Farenheit...Oh damn 95° that is hot!” 😂

That metric system joke was spot on. I was rolling. I remember getting beautiful brand new math books (and even workbooks) in elementary school and all of us kids were so excited. I think the teaching was trucking away at teaching us the metric system for about a month or two. I honestly think the problem was that we had to learn both systems but in the stores, on TV, signs, everything was not metric. Nothing had changed, so why were we learning it. Ultimately the next year in school not one teacher was even talking about the metric system. The great experiment that didn’t work.

You don't need to convert stuff in the metric system, that why. It leaves you with more brain and computing capacity, easier to understand = more efficient to use = more efficient results when you work with it. It makes more sense.

I understand both system just fine and most modern American college students know both because the metric system is pushed hard in the science field. Now if that student is not necessarily in the scientific field then they may not be so fluent.

If imperial system was more efficient, I dont think your corporations and military would opt out for the metric system. They do care more about results than how you get them, don't they?

@luciacoutinho: It's the older people that don't. I'm a high school student, and we learn both systems now in our schools. At least in my states. Anyone who was born in the last 20 years (I can't say older, because I'm not that old and I can't argue it) or anyone who goes to college knows the metric as well as the imperial system.

I'm American, currently in Japan and moving to the UK in the future. Metric isn't hard, as far as adding things up and such... but wrapping my head around, for example, how much 5 kilograms is, is tough. I just can't picture it. I have to have my mathematician boyfriend convert things to Imperial for me, ha ha. I have a whole big sheet of notes about conversions for cooking. Temperature took me LONG time to figure out, but finally, after years, I can picture whether 40 degrees C is hot or cool, ha ha.

@catseye664 take it easy, she just said it's easier to use a system which divides everything by 10 cause that's easy math. you don't need to think about it, everyone knows in half a second how much is a number divided by 10. so supposedly it should be easier to get used to, even if you've done it in a different your whole life. she didn't mean you're wrong by doing things your way, actually i think she was just saying that maybe if you tried it once you would all see it's much simpler.

LOL well okay, even most American's don't know how many feet are in a mile. It's a shame, really, 'cause Metric is so much easier conceptually, and would help us out, but we'd pretty much NEED the government to mandate it for it to sink in. I know, off the top of my head, that 30cm=1foot, a meter is about a yard, and a km is, like 6/10 of a mile.
It's like having a 3 year old's command of language, but with numbers. XD

@luciacoutinho because when youve done something one way your entire life, ofcourse something new is going to be hard to learn. It would be just like your country had to switch to our system. Just because everyone else uses the metric system doesnt mean the U.S. needs to conform. If people wanna be overh ere, then they can learn how to do things our way, just like we would have to adjust to doing things your way if we wnet to your country.

    1) Metric system accurately measures miniscule lengths. Adjoining latin prefixes allows it to be fluid and much more precise.
    2) The standard measurement in scientific studies is the metric system. Are you seriously telling me that scientists are stupid for picking the metric system over the US standard of measurements? Even US scientists use the metric system for a reason.
    3) Tell me why there are 5280 feet in a mile. I can tell you why there are 1000 grams in a kilogram.

If you spend your entire life understanding the quantifiable world around you in inches, yards, and so on it's easy to see why the metric system would be difficult to understand conceptually.
