I've already commented this but in case it gets lost in the hundreds of comments, I'm saying it again lol: How far can teeth be moved? Can they be moved anywhere in the mouth? My upper row is not aligned and balanced. The right half of the upper row is too low and the left half too high. It's hard to explain without a picture but let's just say that when I bite into a straight stick, it isn't level. It isn't aligned to the rest of my face and this is because of the teeth being in the wrong place. The entire upper row needs to be shifted to the right and slightly up on the right side. So my question is, would that be possible if the teeth need to be moved a considerable amount before they are in their right place?
Teeth can be moved very long distances but it may take a long time and result in root resorption. I would suggest you see an orthodontist regarding this concern. It can be fixed but if it is too severe sometimes jaw surgery may be necessary
Dionna ly YES! I had spacers and rubber bands. The rubber bands would pull my mouth shut to the teeth that already had tons of pressure from spacers, It was the worst pain and I remember crying from it the first week. Mouth pain is the worst, I handled contractions better than pain from braces.
EL PASA it’s a different type of pain it’s more like pressure like someone is pushing on your teeth with a lot of pressure. And it makes your teeth kinda sore

Advil actually has a MINOR effect of slowing down tooth movement at first. I usually recommend Tylenol because it causes relief and doesn't have an impact on tooth movement. Great question!

Hi Dr. I'm confused😕 not by you but byothers orthodontist results that i see online. And the (?) is ; There is a " perfect " position where the tooth is supposed to be? like if there is a guideline that orthodontist follow with the skull? Because i see some results from different orthodontist and it seems that there still more work to be done. Some cases i see straight teeth but face recession. Sometimes overbite, i feel like 'the after' result still have an overbite. Hope u can help me with the confusion and btw i learned a lot with ur videos, thank u for the time teaching, they are really helpful.
There are sooo many different ways to treat (what i'm assuming you're referring to as overbite) an "overjet". I have reviewed some of the few ways with the Herbst & Elastics video but there are many more coming soon!
Hello Doctor, I got my first premolars extracted from both upper and lower jaw and from both side too, its been 7 months and I noticed that my gap on my right side is filling very slowly. What should I do to fill extracted teeth gap faster?
Hi Shilpa! That seems about the right amount of time for your teeth to move to close an extraction site ! Just be sure to not eat any of the foods that you shouldnt so that the brackets dont break & keep your teeth clean! Your orthodontist will do the rest =] Keep me posted on your progress!
I love this!! Thanks for teaching us about what we can’t see as patients. I’ve been documenting my progress on my channel so it’s cool to see the “behind the scenes” in regards to the pressure points. Can you help me with why my molars have been moving forward and backward? My spaces can’t seem to fully close and when they do, they’ll retract back. It’s the reason my treatment has taken longer than expected.
I've had top braces on for 5 months now. Some very brief relief to me is to drink cold water and have it run over the teeth that are hurting over and over again. I find it very soothing. If it's especially unbearable and hurting constantly even when you aren't putting pressure on any teeth, ibuprofen should bring the pain down.
OMG! My lesson about bone modelling and modelling came in really handy when you explained the movement. I never thought knowing about osteoblast and osteoclast would apply to braces!
Sometimes when braces are put on, the initial wire creates some spaces between teeth but don't worry! I'm sure your doc will fix all the gaps and make sure your teeth look excellent once you're done!

Hien Nguyen hello dear...does it hurts now...I just have a small gape in between my front teeth .. & my dentist said that it will take 2 months to close d gapes...m feeling pressure on my teeth
Dear doc, I used to double up the elastics without telling my orthodontist thinking it will complete the braces faster. It did finish quicker than estimated, in about a year. Just today, my new orthodontist looked at my fresh X-ray, he observed my lower molars are all rotated forward. I'm now suspecting it might be because excessive force was applied and my teeth moved too fast. Can this condition be re-corrected ??

one tooth hurts because it’s moving form, (it’s place) , my teeth also ended up looking worse than i started , but in the last 3 years i learned that they get worse for structure , so ur comment was 3 months ago, meaning most likely the fact that it looked even worse had something to do with straightening your teeth .

Immediately after braces there is a high chance of relapse as the PDL is very stretched out. This is why it is imperative that you wear your retainer to prevent relapse! =]
I am currently wearing retainers and sadly ALL retainers has to be worn for life. I wear mine at night for 8 - 10 hours. If you dont wear your retainers, your teeth will naturally shift back to its comforting and natural position.

Please make a video about Canine Retraction and En Masse. Thank you! Your videos are so helpful Doc!
He has those frames on the wall that are always advertised on Facebook..
This is the best explanation of how braces works! Thanks so much!
I just got braces AND a palate expansion and it's so uncomfortable and horrible I'm in tears, will it get better?
My brother's front teeth are the worse, it's been almost two months but his front teeth the front two upper are almost identical now. So amazing how braces changes his life and self confidence. He's handsome but the teeth are the one makes him look ugly.
I knew the second the video started and I saw his eyebrows, I knew the comment section was going to be mostly about the brows. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Amazing.. nobody can explain in such a easy way like in this video.. so thankful dr.
Ah thats so kind of you - thank you!
You did an amazing job explaining the whole concept.
Thanks.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that =]
Can braces work if u have a fake tooth. I dont have one but I just wanted to KNOW
It depends on what kind of a fake tooth. For example, implants can't be moved but if you have a crown, you can move it
Thank you for your videos!!!!! Im about to get braces in may and your videos have given me confidence and ease with the process!!
Ah thank you so much! That's so awesome =] Make sure to keep us updated with your progress !
@@DrGregAsatrian I will for sure!!
Make a video about overbite and how to treat it please! ;(
There are sooo many different ways to treat (what i'm assuming you're referring to as overbite) an "overjet". I have reviewed some of the few ways with the Herbst & Elastics video but there are many more coming soon!
Thanks dr greg. Its been 15 years since i got braces. I just decided to try and understand what they did
Hello Doctor, I got my first premolars extracted from both upper and lower jaw and from both side too, its been 7 months and I noticed that my gap on my right side is filling very slowly.
Are you using an Apple Pencil to show us how it works😂
Giana, Haha =X Yeah! I used it to do the drawing lines in the video and it was the best thing to point with next to me =P
@@DrGregAsatrian What do you think about mewing? Any thoughts?
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. But not the orthodontist
Thanks Doc. Your videos are really helping me, been 1 month since I'm on extenders. Love from Mauritius!
Thanks so much Zeenat, those are such kind words. Best of luck with your treatment! Keep me posted
My mouth is in so much pain. I just got my braces yesterday. I got my top only. It hurts so much. Any tips?
Aw I'm sorry you're having a tough time with them - check out my video on managing the pain from braces .. it may help you out a bit!
Vanessa Valencia there a great channel that a girl runs and she gives great tips on that and many other things
I just got mine last wed it's uncomfortable I take med every 4-6 hours I cnt stand pain how long did ur pain last?
I liked this video at 1: 12 because you taught me 2 things I have NEVER known in such a short space of time!!!!!
OMG! My lesson about bone modelling and modelling came in really handy when you explained the movement. I never thought knowing about osteoblast and osteoclast would apply to braces!
Right? It all is based off basic science!
“Presssssure”= pain
Absolutely love your videos Dr. Greg, they have been so helpful to me. Greetings to you from me here in Bermuda 🇧🇲
How come my braces created a space in my teeth?
Sometimes when braces are put on, the initial wire creates some spaces between teeth but don't worry! I'm sure your doc will fix all the gaps and make sure your teeth look excellent once you're done!
My orthodontist is not that clear. He never explains what is actually happening in my mouth. Happy that you do! Thanks!
1:40 that moment when you re a directioner(fan of one direction) and when you hear the word direction you remember that they re not a band anymore and you start crying😧😢
>__
Please stop
This is great I’ve had braces for about a year and my orthodontist didn’t really explain much so this is super helpful lol
Yesterday I just got braces, no pain at all! 🤓
Heyy that's great! Congratulations on getting your braces! Fun journey again! Make sure to subscribe and keep me posted on your progress =] Also, people have been sharing their experience with braces on myortholife.com - join in!
Dr. Greg Asatrian thanks! ☺️
Hien Nguyen hello dear...does it hurts now...I just have a small gape in between my front teeth .. & my dentist said that it will take 2 months to close d gapes...m feeling pressure on my teeth
Nibedita Behera no it doesn’t hurt at all :) but all people r different
Hien Nguyen hmmm true
I currently have Invisalign & I was super curious about this! Thanks!!
Of course! Glad I was able to help!!
Why did my orthodontist leave my back top and bottom molars without brackets
Sometimes orthodontist wait until a little bit later in treatment to align the most back teeth!
After the braces do you need to have Essix retainers for LIFE even when I'm 80. By the way your eyebrows are AMAZING!
After braces you do need a retainer for life, or as I like to say it "as long as you want your teeth straight"!
The time varies. Some only have it for a couple months or years. Some are permanent
Excellent!!! Just EXCELLENT!!! Thank you so much, God bless u!!
Wow! Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it =] !!!
@@DrGregAsatrian Sensing love your way, sweety!! Hugs!
Hello, thanx for your your useful video. Can you explain something about a deep bite. I have it and i'm curious how it can be corrected.
Hi René! Thanks so much for the kind words! I definitely can make video explaining what deep bite is and how it can be corrected. I'll add it to the list of upcoming videos =] Make sure you subscribe though so you can stay up to date with when it comes out =] !
You should talk about what to do with ankylosis or ankylosed teeth that are in the front of the mouth and maybe adding crowns and stuff if implants aren’t options
I just got braces, and only one tooth hurts why? also my teeth look more crooked than b4
Same
one tooth hurts because it’s moving form, (it’s place) , my teeth also ended up looking worse than i started , but in the last 3 years i learned that they get worse for structure , so ur comment was 3 months ago, meaning most likely the fact that it looked even worse had something to do with straightening your teeth .
4th video I watched and YOURS actually explained how braces work. 👏👏👏 Thank you!!
Aww thank you so much! So happy to answer your question =]
I’m gonna get braces and maybe spacers !!😭😭😭😭
That's so exciting !
Hi! First i wanted to thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to make this video and it was a great one at that. (+I sure liked the animations). I am happy to hear you clinic is busy it means you guys are doing a great job. This video was something that your channel need. As luck would have it i was doing some research on my own on some orthopedic stuff and i found an article explaining this (but with your video is much better). Thanks again for the video and i am look forward to your future content when your find the time.
Ah, you beat me to it! It was great suggestion for a video and had a blast making it. Glad that it helped clarify it a bit. Let me know if you have any questions =] Video, likely on powerchains, coming soon!
Great idea. Ill be sure to let you know if i get any more ideas or have more questions. :) Cheers!
It’s so funny that braces are referred to as “gentle” force because it does NOT FEEL GENTLE
Lovely video ,very few people like you will be willing to share knowledge, keep posting sir
Ahh thank you so much for checking in. I really appreciate that!!
How many chances of relapse are there after getting off the braces??
Immediately after braces there is a high chance of relapse as the PDL is very stretched out. This is why it is imperative that you wear your retainer to prevent relapse! =]
Thanks for the information Dr :)
Could you please tell me that Are the retainers to be worn for lifetime? The maximum time of wearing them?
@@sidrazia3172 that's something I'm curious about too
I am currently wearing retainers and sadly ALL retainers has to be worn for life. I wear mine at night for 8 - 10 hours. If you dont wear your retainers, your teeth will naturally shift back to its comforting and natural position.
Excellent Video. Short and with great visuals
Thank you so much for watching! =] Appreciate you all 😊
Ive gotten the Damon system , Ceramic Braces to be exact and omg my teeth hurts so much! Ive only gotten my upper teeth done (tbh was really hoping for full set ) but now that i know how the upper set feels i am extremely thankful im getting my lower set in probably a few appointments later.
This was perfect. I have spacers in now. I get my braces 4/8 I’m soo excited. Just hope I don’t get all the pain ppl talk about. The spacers doesn’t hurt just was annoying the 1st day. Wish me luck
Good luck! I think you're going to do great! Be sure to stop by and keep us up to date with your progress!
3rd day with spacers and boy are they hurting not really bad but enough to cause pain. So I’m pretty sure the braces are going to cause pain as well 😬
