Lowering the 1934 Ford - Removing The Stock Front Suspension
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- After installing the new front and rear tires on the 1934 Ford Tudor, Matt finally decided that the 34 needs a drop axle. Matt had originally planned on keeping the 34 at the stock height for the summer and planned to install a drop axle over the winter. After seeing the large wheel gap and the fact the car was already on the lift, its a perfect time to give the car the stance it deserves!! Today's video will cover removing the old front suspension and dissembling the front axle. Matt found a mistake with the kingpin's that could have caused issues with drive-ability. Hopefully by the end of the next episode the 34 will have a bitchin new look!!

Awe...that is terrible...I was really looking forward to seeing the reunion....condolences to the family. Maybe a little off topic but my best friend was dying of cancer (guy in his mid 40s at the time) I took his project that hadn't ran in a long time and got it running real quick just so he could see it...i put on a show with some massive burn outs and such in front of his house and all the neighbors were cool with it...It was probably the only time he smiled in months...passed 3 weeks later. It was a 72 buick GS 455 stage 1. Its coming up on 8 years and I still miss him.
Not really off topic at all. This is what cars mean to people. They're more than just metal.
My condolences for Barry's family sad he didn't get to meet you guys and see his car again
Prayers for Barry's family and friends. RIP
Man that sucks about barry .he would have been proud of what you have done with the 34 .I love those banjo rearend jack stands you got that's a good idea
Sad about Barry Skelly. You did your best to reunite him and his car. Good heart Matt. Stay safe.
My condolences again to Barry’s family and to you for not being able to show him the car. Having taken apart a few old Ford axles, I learned that turning the spring perches after you heat the axle is a must! You stand a much better chance of not mushing the threads if you do. I would love to see the blacksmith work that goes into dropping a stock axle. Best wishes to you, Kate, Mike and Moon.
So sad for Barry not to get his ride.
Barry will live on in that beautiful ride, and credit it to you for doing it and him justice in the rebuild/refresh.
How good is it to be working with a hoist
Mine unfortunately is still on the ground in a box
I hope to get it up next couple of weeks 😍😍👍👍
so sad to here about Barry not getting to see it back to its best 😢😢
Rip Barry.
Please send condolences to Barry's family...
It's great to watch you at work, thanks for the content
Condolences to Barry's family.
Good call, Car looked ready for the Baja 1000🏜😁 Edit, so so sorry to hear about Barry nice to see how much it still looks like the old photos. Got to get a moon decal under the hood somewhere.
Definitely will be repainting the hood sides and installing the decals down the road
Condolences to Barry's family. Dropped axle is gonna look sweet.
So I was a little spooked to see bolts moving by themselves 4:50. Later in the video I noticed the fan. Very sorry to hear Barry passed away. I think we were all looking forward to Barry seeing his car again, but I'm sure he got pleasure from just knowing the car still survived and was in good hands. I like the classic "moon equipped" decal under the hood in the still shots.
Best Wishes to Barry's Family. MEMORYS LIVE ON. #STAYSAFE
RIP Barry
Nice touch would be a tribute somewhere on the car,Dash or rear valance near number plate for example.Axle radius rod pins absolute bear to get out.Are you going to run oillite bushes for the kingpins?
By the way, love the banjo jackstands!
Condolences to Barrys family. It would have been great to reunite him with the car.
As for the drop axle? Using the proper front tyres would have saved the grief.
Those VW tyres are not up to the weight of the car.
And modding those radius arms often cause everything to bind up. And nose down usually makes the things, understeer into a corner and be very loose off.
Also, why didnt you use radial tyres? In 2020 crossplys are 50 years out of date. 235x75x15 rear and say 215x75x15 on the front. They all come in whitewall and have more than the load required. And will improve the car in every way.
RIP Barry.
You need a spring spreader i know you couldn't leave it alone ps got trans for TROG car it looka like it will work well thank you
I prefer doing it this way. Spring spreader is more of a pain in the ass and much scarier.
Man that was easy, compared to even my 57 Bel Air.
In a couple of the vintage car photos I noticed that there were twin horns under and alongside of each headlight. Any options out there for re-creating that look?
I took the horns off to clean the front up. I’m taking small creative license on some things like dropping the front axle and small tire changes.
@@IronTrapGarage There is nothing wrong with that approach - after all, it is your car and needs to reflect your personal touch (which is in good taste in my opinion).
👍👍👍👍👍
Not a big fan of the red . For some reason it don't work .
You can make your 34 ford any color you want
Damn, so sorry to hear about Barry. I was really looking forward to seeing him reunited with his hot rod. You could tell that he was very excited about it.
instablaster...
Good episode, I was sorry to hear of Barry's passing, I was looking forward to the episode where he would have been able to see the car again. My condolences to his family and friends.
Matt thats sad after you got it so close too.
Reverse the main leaf spring while you’re there!!!
This video gave me PTSD from when I did the drop axle on my 47.
Condolences to Barry's family.
Hey Matt, Have you ever thought about heating & dropping your own axles? It seems stock axles are cheap but dropped axles go for a premium price. It will save you some serious $$$. You can even make some money dropping stock axles & reselling them.
I have but there’s a lot that goes into setting up a jig and there’s some friends that do a great job and are fair on prices we stay out of their market of dropping them. Good idea though!!
Wow, this was cool, these are my favorite type of videos that you make. I love to see how things are put together and how to modify them.
So sad , words cant say enough.
Thank you for the update on the 1934 Ford Tudor ! Take care , stay safe and healthy wherever your next adventure takes you ! Doing well here in Kansas . Sorry to hear about Barry !
Matt can you tell me how wide the 39 ford s from rear fender to fender. I am going to South Dakota to pick up a 37 2 door sedan and I have purchased a 2019 mustang IRS and I would like to see if I am going to have to modify the rear end and maybe have to widen the rear fenders . any tips you can give me I would greatly appriceate. I have built many hotrods but nothing this old
Morning Matt, as always another great video, these "how to" videos are the best. I envy you with the room that you have to work, I hope & Pray that some day we have a similar shop. We totally understand the 1 step forward 3 steps backwards scenario, I am there more than I care to admit. Hopefully you will be able to come together with Barry's family & show them the car, you're a good guy Matt!! Build on Dudes!!
Thanks so much!
My condolences to Berry's family. We are losing many of the pioneers of hot rodding. Keep his dream alive. Great job .
if they cannot solve the flu, do not have much hope for this COVID virus....what a tragic turn of events for all...
Condolences to Barry's family and friends this an extremely terrible time to loose a loved one. My brother in-law who was also my best friend passed 3 weeks ago from covid19. He was alone in a hospital room. They had setup a video link for the sad event. So please everyone protect yourself and those around you. Enough for that sad shit. Changing the front axle is lot of hard dirty work add to that if you split the wishbone set another day or two aside. Love your videos Matt
Oh No, Barry died. What a shame. I was really looking forward to meeting him and seeing his reaction to this car. Well I certainly hope he's in a better place now. Condolences to his family. Too sad.
Sorry about Barry, I will keep him in my prayers. Possibly a custom nerf bar in the front to replace that bumper???
RIP Barry.
Takes a nice '34 daily driver and trailer parks it out with strait pipes, and a front end stance that makes the car very limited on where you can drive it. Nyce!!!
RIP Barry
I would love to see the two axles side by side to see the comparison before you start to reassemble everything
Prayers out to Barry's family and friends. I'm sure that Barry and Larry are hanging out in Hot Rod Heaven. RIP !!!! It will be a special day when this car makes it's maiden voyage.
Sorry to hear about your friend Barry am sure he would have loved the things you have done to the car amazing job Matt have a good night.
Easy is better. Just remove 2 springs from that spring pack.
Life can be a real bugger at times but his family will see the car and talk about the good old days thank you for trying but life goes on and he won't be forgotten
Thanks Matt , I don’t know much about the early ford hot rod ! Please forgive me I am a Chevy guy ! Lol but I love learning about what you are doing! Best Regards BobLee ps even if they Fords haha 😆
Sorry to hear about Barry. You should be proud Matt , more has gotten done with that car in less then a year then had happened to it in the last 50. I know he must have passed peacefully knowing it was in good hands now. Keep up the good work man!
Sorry to hear about Barry, hopefully family and friends can have a little piece watching the 34 get finished.
How so very sad to hear about Barry. I really enjoyed the phone call you had with him. It will look awesome - definitely worth the time and effort. I'm certain you're glad you didn't compromise and drive it that way - you have a reputation to keep 😱. 👍👍😎👍👍
May Barry and Larry rest in peace..the '34 continues the legacy of those two men..I'm sorry for hearing the unfortunate news, i was exited to see how would Barry react..What a shame..
hi matt wow so sad for Barry not to see the car
Rip Barry happy rodding in the sky. God bless you Barry and family ..,.,. All the best from UK 👍🏼
Great tutorial for the uninitiated about how to dismantle a front end (especially the hard parts).
Please do show the car to Barry's family once you have finished it. 👍
Great video! I'm in need to restore the front end of our Tudor so this is helpful.
Sorry to hear mr Skelly passed.
Sad news about Barry Skelly. Nice work getting that apart, it's a dance of heat and air hammer to get the perch pins out without ruining the ends.
I’m sure Barry was very pleased to know that his car survived and was well on it’s way to getting back on the road.
It is a bummer he didn’t get to go for one more ride in it.
Damn. RIP Barry Skelly, sir. Hopes & prayers to his family & friends.
My condolences to Barry’s family
That's a real shame about Barry. I was really looking forward to seeing him react to the car. I still like the idea of the family seeing it when it's done but yeah I do feel bad about that though
That’s very sad to hear about previous owner thought the phone call was cool and was looking forward to seeing his expression of him looking at his lost love!!!
Nice job, Matt! Respect! That's very cool that you would honor Barry in such fashion!
So sorry to hear about Barry's passing! I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers! Those old axle tubes really work well when working on a front axle or rear end without tying up jack stands.
So sad to hear about Barry... was so looking forward to him seeing the car shine again. R.I.P.
So sorry to hear of Barry's passing. I'm sure he would approve of the work you're doing on the 34.
So sorry to hear of Barry's passing. You are doing an awesome job bringing his old hotrod back to its glory
godspeed barry. i think we were all blessed to have been able to meet you via matt's phone call with you.
condolences to your loved ones.
Was actually going to ask u on the live stream if Barry had seen the car yet that really is sad great video Matt looking forward to the next one👍
So sorry to hear about the passing of Barry. So happy to know that you had a chance to talk with him.
Condolences to the Skelly family. I’m sure they would like to see the car back on the road in his honour.RIP.
It was sad to hear that Barry didn't make it to see the car restored - I'm sure he would have been proud of the work you've done. Just my humble opinion of course - but I think it would be cool to put the Moon Eyes back on the side of the firewall - I think they look cool. As always - love the videos and workmanship!
We agree about the moon eyes sticker. Might take the hood off and repaint the cowl sides red to match down the road.
RIP MR Barry prayers for his family
Nice tribute. He knew you were taking the passed torch. Keep up the great work!
Car is pretty dang neat. I hope you make a tribute to him somehow with the car
Vale Barry, nice testament to him
Oh I'm very sorry to hear about Barry.
I think I would of left it the way he had it.
I'M SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT BARRY!! ...KEEP HIS MEMORY ALIVE THROUGH YOUR WORK MATT!
May Barry's memory be eternal.
After lookin at it I’m thinking little nerf bars up front would look killer.
Also super sad about berry😕
God bless Barry’s family.
My deepest condolences to the family
So sorry to hear about Barry.... :(
Sorry to hear that news about Barry.
A trip to harbor freight will get you the little 4 ton porta power, that way you can swap the spring without disassembling it.
Why? That’s the pain in the ass way. This way is simpler and less dangerous.
@@IronTrapGarage ok? Never had any problem using hydraulics, changed out shackles and bushings without any issues over the years. To each their own.
Sorry for Barry
When I was 19, I put in a '37 Plymouth axel under a '61 Ford Falcon. My welding skills were much better back then!
Our condolences to the Skelly family. And our thanks, for bringing a very special car to life.
Infinitely easier to r&r an a suspension that hasn’t laid in the mud for several decades. Still took the blue wrench a little bit it wasn’t petrified.Saw your Facebook post about Barry. Sorry he didn’t get to see his old car. Sounds like he had some good times in life though.
Sad news about Barry - i asked if you were going to give him a ride on the Sunday Services video... heartbreaker.
So sad but Barry is watching you Matt as you bring back his 34. Later bro, stay safe. Terry
Thanks for showing us who have never done such a swap, that there is a learning curve !
Yep only gets easier with the more of them you do!
First off our thoughts and prayers out to Barry's family. Second I know from watching your videos that your goal was to get it back for Barry to take a ride in again. Hopefully you will able to show the family . So another great video on how to take the front end apart I was looking forward to it can't wait for part two.
Sorry to hear about Barry, I’m glad that you got to talk to him and let him know his car was in good hands
