I love the weather in England, it doesn't often get too hot, and it doesn't really get that cold, I think we had one day of real winter this year!
and the food here has been pretty awesome since the 70s :)
I think we're officially in springtime now, everywhere looks so pretty!
+watchtheskies Especially in the south it's sunnier and warmer! We can't wait to go to the sandy beaches in summertime :)
You where not here in 1976 or 1963.
I was almost here is 63! definitely here is 76, I was 12
Aww, Thank You for being so polite about British food, most people say it looks disgusting without trying it. And 'Im glad you like living here. Im surprised youv'e not had any snow, are you very far south. I live in North Scotland, we get snow every year. I agree about wetherspoons, Its not bad, its just what I call 'Pub grub', itl fill a hole if your hungry but its nothing fancy. Its family friendly though which I guess is good for you.
You do your country proud for being so nice and open minded. Restored my faith in America. Or at least some of it.
+Heather Macdonald thank you for your very kind comment!
Yum haggis!! You have to try it and black pudding! As an American I love both. I go to the UK often and my favorite thing to do is eat!! French food, Indian food, Italian food, pigeon in pubs, full English breakfast minus the yucky beans lol oh and any European chocolate and English puddings are the best.
+E Wood sticky toffee pudding rules the world!
The Postmodern Family yes, it does!! I just ordered some through a wonderful online store. I love the serving sizes too. They are just perfect.
Weatherspoons are very supportive of local breweries .The breakfast is great value. The meals are so, so but still okay for the price,
+rachel hudson why all the hate from so many commentators?
Because 'Spoons is not great food. Its not even good food. It is OK, It is predicable. It is adequate. But thats it. I do eat there from time to time - and its OK. But I wont be going there for the gastronomic experience
@@ThePostmodernFamily Snobbery.
I stumbled across your video this morning and I like you guys !!! I'll be back to check in on you now all the time . 😀
+Margrette M. Wilson thank you for your kind words! We enjoy making fun videos!
Just subbed, came over from the Facebook group UA-cam family friendly vloggers. Now I am missing England even more LOL - looking forward to more of your videos..hope you're having a fantastic weekend. Sue
therealBRITSofNY thanks so much! We just subbed to your as well. Up for a collab sometime? Xx
lovely family! looking forward to more of your takes on UK life :)
+Jay Paul thank you! We have enjoyed our time here!
The MOT test (Ministry of Transport, or simply MOT) is an annual test of vehicle safety, roadworthiness aspects and exhaust emissions required in the United Kingdom for most vehicles over three years old used on any way defined as a road in the Road Traffic Act 1988
There's nothing wrong with Wetherspoons, they do up old buildings, name them after local people/events and provide a reasonably pleasant environment and good value. But haute cuisine it is not.
I've been to a Harvester's, but not Wetherspoon's. I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm there. And *why* does everyone chunter on about haggis being cooked inside the sheep stomach? If you like sausage, don't ask what sausage casing is made out of. People are screwy. And haggis is delicious. Unlike black pudding. I've tried to like it, but I just don't. Besides, in America health laws forbid using the stomach (or the lights either).
Nothing wrong at all, you know you'll get a reasonable meal at a reasonable price, good stuff.
The MOT isn't the same as the vehicle emissions test. The emissions test forms part of the MOT to make sure that your car isn't pumping out all sorts of toxins and pollutants. The MOT is simply an annual test your car has to pass to be deemed roadworthy. If it doesn't pass it then it can't be driven on public roads, for your safety and for the safety of other road users and pedestrians. I don't think the USA has an equivalent to the MOT.
These annual MOTs then form a record of how your car has done in the test each year. This is very useful when buying a second-hand car because someone might say there's never been any problem with it but you can check the car's MOT history online which might tell a very different story.
With so many pubs going to the wall, or becoming poncy, over-priced 'gastro-pubs', I'm grateful that wetherspoons provides a cheaper and more down to earth alternative. They have become an invaluable service in most towns for cash strapped pensioners, and also families on a budget. And, once the sun goes down, they can still have the atmosphere and bustle of a regular pub, serving a wide variety of beers.
our bacon is back bacon and not ham. great vid.
+john stokes love British bacon!!!!!
in some parts of scottland its called ham
Bacon is made from pork back or belly. Ham is pork leg. Now you know. :)
I'm with you guys weather spoons are amazing x
Where I live in the US Midwest we call a roundabout "the circle'" "Keep driving down Golf and when you get to the circle, make sure you're still going west. " And our weather is just like Syracuse. Best wishes to you both
+Lambieschmoo not sure if we used to call it that; they're so rare where we lived that we don't remember! But "circle" sounds good. Hope you enjoy the summer weather now, we had a hot day today of 26 degrees Celsius!
I am now an addict of your videos so am working through them. I have never confirmed it but I was told that Weatherspoons keeps beer prices low because they buy in stock near the end of shelf life. The beer is still good but needs to be shifted quickly and lower prices help achieve that.
That's a fallacy mate. Wetherspoons buy in bulk. Same beer as everyone else.
Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Toad in the hole . Steak and ale pie. Proper English food.
What a cool couple of people..
+Soggy thanks! We've never thought of ourselves as cool!
She's so beautiful..
She sure is !!
You discovered "Spoons" great job..
In America a roundabout is called a "rotary". They are quite rare and don't exist in some states..
+jon clayton love spoons!
Weatherspoon's food is hot, filling, simple, cheap and delicious. What more do you need?
A roundabout is called a ‘rotary’ We don’t have that many
I’ve been to Fridays in America, and it’s better then weather spoons.
Even though you've been here a while, welcome to England. Wetherspoons, as I understand it, they microwave at least some of their food. Try to explore a bit regarding pubs, you'll probably find some which have better food standards. Wetherspoons' are decent pubs though, the ones that I've been in, I've never witnessed any trouble, but I suppose that depends on the area/locals. Because they're cheap, they're quite busy. Try coming up into the North of England - the people are friendlier and will always help you with directions if they can. In the South it is said people are money and time orientated and are pretty dismissive - like some New Yorkers (I hear), in the North we are more people orientated. I live in Sheffield in South Yorkshire; the Yorkshire and Derbyshire counties have particularly beautiful countryside and traditional market towns/villages (Bakewell) famous for it's 'Bakewell Tarts', (Hathersage) where 'Little John' one of Robin Hood's men is buried' (Castleton,) for its caves and walks, or even the city of (York) be aware that York is pretty and everything - but it's absolutely seething with tourists. Try driving across 'The Snake Pass' between Sheffield and Glossop for the beautiful countryside backdrops, the very high and very steep drops, the Ladybower and Derwent dams (where they practiced the bouncing-bomb runs used in World War II), your husband may insist on doing the driving though, because the road while magnificent is quite tricky - wait until you see that road. Back in the 70's/80's we used to get loads of snow in winter/spring, it wasn't unusual for it to be about 3 or 4 ft high where I live, but now because of global warming, snow is a lot rarer.
+TrigJosh thank you for your comments! We *must* try the North!
hahaha anglovirtual, excellent.
Nothing up with Wethies, at least you won't pay gourmet prices and get frozen ready meals anyway. A better option than Nandos, Pizza Hut etc.
Wetherspoon's is a popular pub with alcoholics. You can get them queuing up for opening time.
That said they do have pubs everywhere and the beer is consistent and cheap. The food is not brilliant but definitely edible and again cheap. Though with many pubs trying to be overpriced gastro pubs Wetherspoon's is a welcome respite.
i love Wetherspoons, because its such good value. I don't blame you for making a trip to a Wetherspoons! You can get a pint fot £2.00 too!
Ha, good stuff.
Best English food is a Sunday roast dinner. Roast lamb my favourite but lamb is now terribly expensive compared to days of old. Roast beef is still the mainstay though.
Home made is the best as always (with a good cook of course, lol) but otherwise try a Carvery. Check first for recommendations and reviews - but all the ones I have been to are quite good.
Now that's a real uk looking knitted jumper.
I think you’re confusing British bacon which is meat with American fried Pork fat.
Good video, I like to hear your positive comments. It’s easy to find the negatives because they don’t do it the way we do it back home as I just did. But you seem to accept the differences and take them in your stride. Congratulations!
Good for you, very entertaining when you’re not going on about Religion.
Phil D
When you rent a car in the UK and you want automatic then you need to specify this when booking, but it will cost you more. The Weatherspoons in your video looks like it was a bank in a previous life.
+Genial Harry Grout I (Felipe) knew this, but like driving manual, so didn't change it!
Weatherspoons food as improved a lot, but there is more to eating out then going to Weatherspoons depending where you are in the uk i e London or around that area you got to try some traditional pie and mash with liquor
+Henry Smith traditional pie and mash? What's that?!
The main dish sold is pie and mash a minced beef and cold water pastry pie served with mashed potato they steam cook the pies they are very tasty and not very expensive
We have two roundabouts in my Northern California town and we call them roundabouts.
+Jeff Morse I spent two years in Palo Alto. Wonderful area.
I'm British and I don't really like Wetherspoons very much. However, I do have to agree that their breakfast is spot on! I suppose I have mixed feelings.
+planningto can't beat a spoons full English
I love that you said Wetherspoons
+AMH nothing wrong with a full English at Spoons!
The Postmodern Family i agree but just wasn't expecting you to say it haha
+AMH 👍👍👍👍
Spoons is great. Glad you like it
it does snow in the winter it just hasn't for a while
+matthew nevin we love white Christmases! Hope it snows this year!
How are you both enjoying our telly?
+Peter Wareham we don't have a tv that's compatible with your signal, so we don't pay for tv license and don't get BBC and all that.
What a seriously good-looking couple. Wow. Your children are going to be outrageously beautiful. Greetings from the land of the haggis (btw, it also comes in vegetarian form, which is much more delish, imho).
+Karas Aunty thank you for you very kind words!
I surprised u like Wetherspoons I prefer toby try toby. Mot is vehicle road worthiness we don't give a toss about emissions haha
Weatherspoons can be good. The food is good without being spectacular, they have a great selection of Real Ales in there and the prices are very reasonable. However never try and make sense of the noises the tables of 9am drinkers in there make to each other and never try and engage said people in conversation ;-)
Hahahahahaha. Nice handle, by the way!
I'm glad you approve :-) Awesome channel by the way.
On an interesting note though how your English friends all put down Weatherspoon's reminds me of how I rarely hear Americans have anything good to say about Denny's yet when we travel to the US we always seek one out pretty much as soon as we arrive, we love it.
Lol! Every few years we have a mega winter (snow/ice and daytime temps well below freezing), or a scorching hot summer, (temps well over 30.C, especially in southern UK) so watch out guys! In a bad winter it can be chaos as nobody bothers to use winter tyres, plus the gritter lorries and snowploughs are sporadic. If you like Weatherspoons, try local family run pubs/craveries. Some of them are really top notch and still good value. Nice video. Tfs.
+London Calling yes we love the local pubs as well. Food is fantastic!
Where are your friends eating if they say the food isn’t very appealing? We don’t eat fish and chips everyday. Fish and chips are just fast food like saying Americans eat McDonald’s everyday
Living in the Scarborough part of England we have totally different stuff
If u dk where that is look it up : 3
Spooons!
nothing wrong with a good spoons...
+Alison Allen some people turn their noses up at it! So snobby!
Fred Smith God you’re the definition of snobbery and arrogance. The food is convenience food, if you want fine dining go to le Gavroche or somewhere more suited to your liking.
Traffic circle. or island
I actually like Wetherspoons! Not sure why Brits don't like them
BAEBAE TV It's ok for what it is. Huge range of beers, great value but the food is just something to have if you're there for a drink, I wouldn't call it a destination place for food since it's a bit low quality.
BAEBAE TV It's a snobbery thing. The selection of beer they offer is generally very good and usually a good £1 a pint or so cheaper than other places. The food is cheap but pretty average although a cooked Breakfast at £3 (less than half an hour's minimum wage) is exceptional for the price. It all means they can tend to attract a particular clientele which some people find undesirable.
BAEBAE TV I'm Scottish and I love whetherspoons I think it's delicious
My Point Exactly. Somewhat ironically you prove my point exactly.
I used to like going for their kick ass cooked breakfast, it was enough to keep you going all day. However it was weird sipping your coffee at 8am looking at guys drinking beer and cider.
We as a nation love hot curries Indian pakistani food
Maybe bubble and squea
Out of curiosity do you guys live in London.
No, we wish
how can they like Mogg AND Wetherpoons?
lolololololol
The bit of road you see is near Great Barford, Bedfordshire. There used to be a railway beneath the bit of road where it rises up and bears to the right. Been over that road many, many times.
Here's a British saying for you.your punching well above your weight there fella.
In other words your wife is bloody gorgeous, you lucky man.regards.
I love Weatherspoons, Good and reliable food
+tomgauntlestrange good deal!
Brexitspoons ✌️
Oh man spoons is the worst you should’ve gone to a more traditional smaller business, not a chain
Its proper bacon
Love watching your videos guys, it’s nice to see the things we take for granted being appreciated by are American friends.
Ps, I’ve lived here all my life and the narrowness of the roads still gets me ha ha ha
I normally hate American reviews on England bc they think they're discovering something when they're not like their opinion somehow dictates the quality of the product or experience?? But you guys defo got it thank you so much. Most accurate review on England from an American I've seen so far x
Love seeing how others see us.
a grand video and so pleased you're settling in well to the UK. Be sure sure to travel north sometime and see either the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District and let me know when and I'll put the kettle on and make you both a nice cuppa tea lol. I like Wetherspoons too
+FlipFlopCamper what a kind invitation! We may take you up on that!
Well the offer stands but doubt you'll come as only the British would travel half the length of the country for a cup of tea HOWEVER LOL if you did I'd even throw in some scones
+FlipFlopCamper we hear the English North is the analogue of the American South: friendly, outgoing, etc. We have it on our "to do" list!
That is probably true. Fetch an interpreter with you lol
FlipFlopCamper I live in Bournemouth and just came back from a break in lake Windermere you live in a beautiful place 🙂
People slating 'spoons. Here's some facts, the beer isn't watered down, all beer in the uk is controlled by HMG weights & measures. So Stella is Stella if it's in spoons or your local! They don't carry craft ales as by their nature they are tricky and to be fair sometimes inconsistent, but they have reliable ciders and bitter the same as any small pub. And they come from the local distributer.
Food again comes from main supplier whether it's booker, 3663, or food stuffs supplier, the same as the greedy spoon cafes ( so beloved ) .
It's a fact of life that it can be expensive to eat out, but spoons and other chains are providing carvaries and table food, thats perfectly good, enjoy and as they say we go mad in the states for their chains.
Preach it.
Brought a pint in my local witherspoon, had line cleaner in it.
@cambs 01 Can happen in any pub. It's not really unique to spoons.
Well have been drinking in pubs for nearly three decades now and this is the first time it has ever happened to me.
They have huge scale economies hence why the beer is cheap, simple as that really. They have an excellent range of beer including craft and real ale.
Dunno how I came across this vid but very good video and good to hear you talk so kindly about us 😂 hope you’re enjoying your time here.
Best thing about Wetherspoons is the coffee. Pay £1.40 and have as many free refills as you want.
the best thing about Wetherspoons ,is the door out of it
We can't really hate on each others food. I feel like in most cases, people like the food that they grew up eating.
+Jarsnofski this is true; although some food is just objectively delicious
One of the reasons many Brits are anti-Weatherspoon is because they threaten traditional pubs. I generally don't mind them, it's mostly the clientele that's the problem.
The only way you will appreciate proper British food, is to have British friends who invite you to dinner
+will x it can be difficult to make British friends!
No, The British are friendly, just don't be too loud and never say "USA, USA,USA" or " America is the best". The British are quite reserved about their achievements :) Love your videos
+will x you are very kind!
Saying 'Britain' is OK but try and avoid the 'England' thing, just talk with us rather than at us and be prepared to laugh at yourselves. We laugh at ourselves a lot and don't really take ourselves too seriously. We are a pretty 'reserved' bunch and respect people's space and privacy but don't think that is us being unfriendly.
Just mention the weather - Instant communication!
Brits do have fun making fun of themselves :)
I agree cool couple nice to see how you guys get on over here
Weatherspoons is awesome, the food and beer is cheap but really good. You guys are nice will be watching more of your content
+Carl Hughes thanks!!
@@ThePostmodernFamily Weatherspoon's originally started off as Student Bars and unlike other Pubs were not tied to a Brewery to provide the Beer.
Push chair is a pram in Britain, short for perambulator from victoriana
most British people have never had haggis either
In 3-4 visits to the U.K. I always enjoyed the food from a breakfast buffet at the Hotel with the thick bacon, and the plates were so hot you had to hold them in your napkin. I did traditional English fare of Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding at Simpson's on the Strand. My favorite was the pub food. Everything was great!
Nooooo every real Brit loves weatherspoons. Lots of choices for beer and cider and cheap food
Wetherspoons*
I'm British and I like the concept. The food is disgraceful, end of. But the atmostphere and all, yep.
SandgrownManc the food isn’t disgraceful, that’s your opinion. Personally I find it eminently edible. Yes it’s not posh and expensive or al’a carte but for me that’s part of the appeal.
@@puckinhell622 And that's your opinion. I worked in the kitchen and everything is processed and comes in frozen. It's shit. Cheap processed gubbins. If you love it, great. But it's still shit.
It's not the very best....but the menu is vast and it's quick and very well priced and the staff are always nice. The food is tasty and good honest stuff.
Can't stand Wetherspoons. Full of elderly alcoholics who hate foreigners. I just wish they would hurry up and die so that we can consider getting close to the EU again.
british bacon is plain and simply the best to be had on the planet with over 500 kinds / cures of bacon available it is not like canadian or american
Have you been to Wales yet ? I noticed that you went to a castle on one of your episodes, Wales has more castles than anywhere in Europe.
That was really cute - your a nice couple. We do get the odd very cold winter though.
+Matthew Elliman haven't seen any one cold winter yet!
We haven't had a really cold winter in about 40 years. I think they are pretty much a thing of the past.
@@ThePostmodernFamily You saw a bit of one winter just gone:)
A "roundabout" is called a "traffic circle" in America.
Never ever heard anyone call it a "Rotary" in my 50 yrs.
"Rotary" is a New England thing.
it's def. a rotary in Boston! I've never heard of traffic circle?!?
When I used to visit Washington DC years ago there are many circles around the city. We stayed in a hotel on DuPont Circle.
If i switch my Satnav (GPS to you) to an American voice, it calls roundabouts "Rotory"
I’ve been watching you guys for ages and never commented but yay you guys are so much fun well done xx
Hi, I like how you made me look at things in a different way when living in the UK most of my life. I was also was surprised to see you are local to me in Southampton!! :) where I have lived for nearly 12 years. I would also like to offer any help and advice if you are looking to travel this great country as I have lived at 16 addresses all over from Scotland to Cornwall as my family have a military background, and would like to welcome you as well, take care, Mark
+Mark Reed those are very kind words indeed. Thank you! We are planning a 3-5 day road trip to York. The only thing I have in mind as a must is to see Stratford-upon-Avon, but other than that it's open. What do you recommend?
Hello, Nice to hear back from you :) I have not been to Stratford but have visited York once some years ago. Its a very old city and has some great architecture and and history which you may like. I'm from Lincolnshire originally and know Lincoln (amazing cathedral) Newark-on-Trent and then east to Louth, Mablethorpe and Skegness (very touristy beach town). If you like industrial and fishing then Grimsby and Hull are good places to visit as well. I then have a bit of a hole in my knowledge as i have not lived further north in England but have in the north of Scotland near Inverness (home to the loch ness monster and haggis!)
I have visited other places in the Lincoln area but nothing I would recommend, but then we are all different - I love New York but not everyone does!
Anyway, I must go out to the same Tesco you went too to get my shopping! (and definitely NO marmite!! :(
Good luck, enjoy your life in Blighty.
+Modernist thanks!!!
Steak and Kidney Pudding, Sunday Roast, The Ploughman's Lunch, and English Breakfast, Bubble& Sqeak, Bangers and Mash. Loads of dishes!
The fact is British food is probably the best food in the world and compared to American food which is absolutely awful compared to British cuisine! USA food has literally sugar in everything!!!!!
I avoid Weatherspoons like the plague. Yes, it’s consistent and very good value, and lots of people appreciate that, but you get what you pay for. Not good quality food. When I say not good food, I’m not looking for posh food, just food made with decent quality ingredients. They also seem to be very anti dog. Don’t even allow dogs in their outdoor/garden areas, which most pubs do.
For any Americans who are interested, a 'MOT' (Ministry of Transport) test, is a yearly test done on UK cars more than 3 years old. It is illegal to drive a car that does not have a valid test certificate unless you can prove you are taking the car to/from a testing station or to a garage for MOT repairs. Tests are done at government approved garages and take about an hour. Everything is checked emissions/brake operation/brake components/exhaust/lights/seatbelts/steering components/tyres(tires)/windscreen(windshield)/indicators(directionals)/suspension/wheel bearings/mirrors/engine mounts/and any corrosion near to vehicle structure. You may pass but will normally get a failure sheet with a list of reasons for failure, you then have 14 days to have the repairs done and the re-test is free. If all the repairs are done correctly you get your certificate. The testing station may issue advisory information on repairs that do not need to be done to issue the certificate. All MOT information is available free on the internet, so every car's test history can be checked.
I think a lot of people get snobby about Weatherspoons. They can get like a crowded, noisy, club at night, but during the day I've found them to be generally pleasant. The food can vary from place to place. If you find a good one then stick with it.
Not all Wetherspoons are created equal. Some of them are intentionally higher quality, others are just trashy pubs. They’re all pretty cheap and cheerful though, I don’t dislike them.
Nice to see you guys appreciate us and our country for who and what we are. With all our faults and foibles. Hope we made you feel welcome and enjoy your time with us ...
+1chish thank you for your kinds words. It truly matters!
I wouldn’t recommend a Wetherspoons in a million years id honestly go for a village pub make sure it has an old wood burning fireplace and a massive dog inside that’s how you know you’re getting the proper authentic British experience
Narrow roads. That looks like a regular B road. Try some of the country roads, the roads are so narrow, the grass verge or bushes are encroaching into the roads, blind bends, cars coming invariably a foot on your side of the road then hug the grass verge to pass. Then add the local yocal into the mix or racing round these backs roads at 70mph. You complete your journey having earned a well deserved sigh because you made it.
As you can imagine across the chain their food supply is pretty much uniform. The quality of the ingredients can be assured but most of it is pre packaged and often warmed up in a microwave lol that doesn't mean it doesn't taste good, but you get what you pay for. One of the problems with weatherspoon is they take a lot of wet sales away from the independently run, local pubs. They can under price pretty much anyone else who is tied to a brewery.
I regularly go to Wetherspoons for coffee after shopping. I meet friends and we discuss topical items, brexit often rears its ridiculous head. I don't eat there because their meals are all reheated and I'm not a fan of micro-waved food.
FOr the price I think Wetherspoons is actually pretty good. It doesn't cost much more than Mcdonalds and I think it is better.
Yes Wetherspoons do give good value .a lot of other pubs probly could but dont want too. And yes again .ive seen a few alcoholic looking costomers when ive been in . I suppose thats the result of giving realy cheap deals . But they dont complain about me so live and let live i say .
A roundabout is called a rotary in America and thanks Felipe for pronouncing Nicaragua correctly. Most Brits dont pronounce it properly.
Fun video! I do appreciate a spoons breakfast! The winters have been very mild the last couple of years, but it definitely does snow here :-)
+NightSkies Dark I bet it won't snow this winter; will be third winter here without snow
The Postmodern Family it's probably just as well, I'm afraid we generally don't cope well with snowy weather. If you do want experience snow in the UK, then Scotland is probably your best best.
The mistake most visitors to the UK make is trying fish and chips from restaurants, proper fish and chips are MUCH better from a chip shop!
If you want a bite and a pint at a cheap price there is nothing wrong with Wetherspoons. You know what you are going to get. Its like the McDonalds of pubs. I'd take a mate, not a date.
I love America but our food is so much better and I'm not talking about fucking fish and chips 😂
Nowt wrong with Wetherspoons. It’s cheap and food is actually quite nice
Im English and every foreigner that i met likes our food but i hate it 😂 wetherspoons is a good value place for a nice breakfast though agreed
Spoons is what it is. Cheap and cheerful and actually not bad quality. Come down to Somerset for some narrow roads.
