Cells were typically overcrowded with prisoners. Even solitary cells were so packed that there was no room to sleep-prisoners could only crouch or stand. This was a common practice in all of Bashar al-Assad’s facilities, not just limited to Saydnaya.

No one really knew what was happening-not even their families. Bashar’s agents would either storm their homes in the dead of night, and they would simply vanish without a trace, or they would be detained at checkpoints, only to disappear off the radar. The agents would first confiscate their cellphones to prevent them from alerting their families about their whereabouts. If the families tried to search for them, the regime would deny that their loved ones were held at any of its facilities, even though they were there. Imagine, their families could be just steps away from their children’s cells, possibly even speaking to the very torturers of their loved ones, and none of them would know. It’s like a scene straight out of a horror movie.

There was a problem with the translation. Civilian court is not civilian, although the words are similar in Arabic ميدانية and مدنية.
but they are totally different. The actual translation is Field Court (although it's not actually in the field but in prison).
In Syria, it's a court that lasts only 3 seconds, and the judge sees you, frames you, and sentences you to death.

Thank you Carrie for showing hell on earth.
In 2012 and I just turned 17. I got arrested back then and stayed in one of the hundreds similar dungeons for 2 months, what I witnessed was terrifying and you would only think it is a horror movie. I was kept with around 50 people in a dark cell smaller that 25 squared meters, and there were tens of similar cells. You would get two meals a day, for breakfast, four olives and a quarter of the (round) Syrian bread, and for dinner you get a small boiled potato and the quarter Syrian bread... You were allowed to go to the toilet once every day and you had to run so you would get kicked fewer times by the guards and if you take more than a minute you were doomed, they'll lay you down to the ground and start hitting you with cables and all kinds of sharp objects. And you if you are not screaming because of torture you would hear others all day, especially the ones you would see laying around in the corridors naked or in boxers, they would pour cold water on them and hit them, so you see nothing because it is pitch dark and only hear the screams.
I remember everything like it all happened yesterday.

    Medication:
Prisoners were denied medical treatment. Many died from tuberculosis because of malnutrition, mistreatment, and the cold, damp, unsanitary living conditions. They were never taken to hospitals for proper care-they were simply left to die. On the rare occasion a prisoner was sent to a hospital, such as for an operation due to injuries caused by torture, the surgery was performed without anesthesia. Moreover, even the doctors were nothing short of butchers, often collaborating in the abuse by physically & verbally assaulting the prisoners themselves.

Omar Alshourgi, a former prisoner there has said that they were forced to drag their cellmates dead body out, and they would turn their body to face the ground so that the food they were eating would come out, and another prisoner could eat that food.

Imagine that it was difficult for you to speak freely about the previous regime, so what about in normal life now? There are crimes I hope films will be produced about:
    1. There were many mass graves discovered after the liberation of Syria. Many of the victims’ families believed that their children were in prison, but they were missing. I believe they were all in these mass graves.
    2. Cases of women being raped and tortured in Basha al-Assad prisons. Some of them conceived children in prison as a result of rape crimes.
    3. Maher al-Assad, commander of the Republican Guard, is Bashar’s brother. He was one of the largest drug dealers in the world. Many drug factories were discovered that were exported to many countries.
    4. Orphanages were a place for Bashar al-Assad’s gangs. They would kidnap children and put them in orphanages, and when they grew up, they would be thrown into the Syrian army to kill their people.
    5. Many Syrian cities and neighborhoods are completely destroyed. The Russians commit major crimes by their planes, as well as explosive barrels from Bashar al-Assad’s army and tanks. Mount Qasioun was a place for manufacturing explosive barrels that were thrown at the civilian population in systematic mass killing.
Mosques and churches were not spared destruction from the senseless war pursued by Bashar al-Assad's army, Russian planes, extremist Iranian gangs, and Hezbollah.
    6. Do not go to eastern Syria because SDF is also a gang and is committing crimes against Syrian Arabs and may cause a revolution at any time.

I think the /Germanic/Saxon word "slaughterhouse" is a more fitting name for this prison than the sophisticated-sounding French "abattoir".

yup, they wanted this to happen. that's a pattern we noticed in every former French colony. they dont leave peacefully.
but you shouldn't blame everything on the Allawite, many people were benefitting from Assad. his wife who stole all our economy was Sunni.

@ nope, Assad, the soviets then russians, post revolution Iran, Israel, the US, and many other actors were benefitting from keeping syria like this (weak and poor and ruled by a dictator that doesnt represent the majority of the citizens).
but now everything changed with the fall of Assad. hopefully to the better for the syrians.

Most these videos are just for UA-cam hits and revenue.
