The license is actually only needed for phones. Android and iPhones have different apps, so you need to buy it twice. There is no need to have a license to use on your laptop

The vault file is encrypted by the masterkey file in combination with your chosen password. The masterkey file is useless without your password, so nobody can use it without knowing it. The same for the vault file. That makes the two files protected, so no need to worry about that.
