The content of this dance is incredible. But it's to my understanding that the original OSP that it is based on (skated by Klimova & Ponomarenko in 1987) is even more difficult than the compulsory version as K&P skated it six steps faster than this version.

Cameo by a very young Virtue & Moir.

Für uns Sterbliche bleibt immerhin der Münchner (und Wiener) Rundtanz, den wir mit Begeisterung betreiben. Wer sich gut auf dem Eis halten kann, kann schnell mitmachen.

Incredible difficulty and a showcase of skating skills but not a very attractive dance. Wish I could do it.

I'd say that the dance is very attractive on itself, but only a very few teams were capable of making it look attractive (imho).

@@MsRumex Yup, it all depends on the skills of the team actually skating it. I think the couples that handled it the best (in terms of getting the timing right and actually handing the content) were Virtue & Moir and Grishuk & Platov.

@@gk891 Well....I have to admit that I've some difficulties with Grishuk and golden waltz. Other types of waltzes e.g.Starlight or Ravensburger they did great, but this particular one, when judged purely on first general impression I did not like that much. For me Oksana had a much stronger charisma than Platov, so I do see her first. And unfortunately she is not the most graceful ice dancer. So in Nagano, when judged by the general impression and how good they sold it - I'd have Marina and Gwendal first (Marina in particular was very good there). However, when you look closer on the speed, flow, technique - than yes, G\P were the best
p.s. and I also noticed that Marina and Gwendal did look more often at each other (or did it more convincing that the others did). So you actually get feeling like they are dancing with each other and not for the judges.
Averbuhk was most ridiculous in this regard.

@@MsRumex I understand what you mean. Grishuk was a very physical ice dancer who skated very aggressively, had sharply delineated movements, and moved with a ton of snap. But still, they were one of the few couples who could get the timing right in regards to the Golden Waltz. And the waltz suited Platov perfectly as he had absolutely superlative neck and shoulder line, smooth running edges, and beautiful extension. I guess that's maybe the reason why I found G&P so compelling to watch because they were so different from one another. My biggest issue with A&P and their golden waltz was that their timing was not as 'on' relatively speaking. But A&P's golden waltz was definitely more like an actual waltz.
Have you seen the original OSP that this dance is based on by Klimova & Ponomarenko? If not, please definitely watch it! I think it it the greatest OSP of all time (many Torvill & Dean fans will probably want to behead me for saying that though). And they skated it six steps faster than the compulsory version too!
