It will be better if you remove the edge tape first, u can use a hairdryer to heat the edge tape for easy removal. Once you remove the edge tape some residual glue will be left behind on the bat. either u can use acetone (or paint thinner) with some cloth to remove it more effectively. if u don't want to use acetone u can even use linseed oil which may take a little more time. after that you can use 180 grit sandpaper and sand the surface to remove all the marks (acetone removes it faster) after you apply 180 grit sandpaper, use 22 grit sandpaper to finish it and then apply 2 coats of linseed oil to seal the bat.
