This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on Nishitani Keiji's work The Self-Overcoming Of Nihilism, and specifically on chapter 9, "The Meaning of Nihilism for Japan". This one examines his discussion of how Japan opened itself up to a crisis of nihilism precisely through modernization and westernization, and what the possibilities for post-World War II are.

You're welcome, Mark!
An immersion into Business happened. Kaizen looks like a synthetic production. Urakami cathedral bombing seems to have a symbolic irony .
Yes, that happened. Not sure that staves off Nihilism
@@GregoryBSadler indeed people fill a spiritual void with the kitchen sink
@@GregoryBSadler do you feel that the US is in this conundrum lately?
@@goldboolean6819 Why lately? Nihilism has been discussed as a problem for more than a century
@@GregoryBSadler maybe I'm thinking in terms of magnitude.
Makes me think of the difference between Shunyata and Nihilism
Well, if you read the text, you’ll see Nishitani spelling that out at a number of points
